* Sorry but this deck is outdated. I'm hoping at some point to make a major update for it but that probably won't be for a while
Greetings!
Are aggro decks bring you down? Are you tired of hearing "Greetings, traveler" and "Your soul shall suffer"? Well then, this deck is for you! It's time for this Priest to go old testament these no good aggro scum!
So why should I listen to you? Are you any good at anything?
An excellent question reader! Well to answer your question I'm a multi-season Legends player that has gotten as high as Legend Rank 146 on ladder on NA. The Primary decks I play are Handlock, Priest and Control Warrior. I am by no means a pro, but I do keep up with hearthstone news daily and watch the pros play in order to try to understand the meta and improve my play. So take from that what you will.
So how do I play this deck?
You aim to prevent the aggro opponent from getting board control and move to overpower them in the late game with their threats near exhausted.
Mulligans:
vs hunter: you want Power Word: Shield (only with Northshire or Pyro), Northshire Cleric, Shadow Word: Pain, Shadow Madness (low priority) Zombie Chow, Wild Pyromancer, Deathlord, and/or Holy Nova (also of a lower priority) in your opening hand. if you happen to get Auchenai Soulpriest with Circle of Healing keep it, otherwise mulligan them if you only have one or the other. Pyro is the main key to winning this matchup, especially when you have the coin. It clears the board of all the pesky 1/1 spider tokens and the one health threats of the opponent
vs Warlock: If its zoolock you mulligan the same as Hunter. If its Handlock your going to be at a disadvantage but your going to want Shadow Word: Death and Lightbomb to even start of standing a chance. You need to be conservative in this match and aim to get the most value out of your cards if you want to win (ex. wait to Lightbomb board full of threats instead of a couple)
vs Shaman: You want Zombie Chow, Holy Nova, Northshire Cleric (especially if you have Power Word: Shield to get it out of Rockbiter Weapon range or with Injured Blademaster), and Circle of Healing (if you have and Auchenai Soulpriest or Injured Blademaster to go with it)
vs Mage: If tempo or mech mage you mulligan the same as zoo and hunter with the only difference that Auchenai Soulpriest with Circle of Healing is more important in this matchup and mulliganing for this should be prioritize. If your against Freeze Mage you'll want Shadow Word: Pain to deal with Doomsayer and Acolyte of Pain and Justicar Trueheart to maximize healing
vs Druid: If its Fel Reaver Druid you want the same as hunter with the addition of wanting a Shadow Word: Death on the chance they have an early Fel Reaver. If its Combo Druid you want Northshire Cleric (if you have Power Word: Shield or Injured Blademaster to go with it), Shadow Word: Pain (to deal with a potential Darnassus Aspirant), and Circle of Healing (If you have Auchenai Soulpriest or Injured Blademaster to go with it). Northshire needs the boost from Shield to prevent it from dying from Wrath
vs Warrior: Mulligan the same as combo druid with the addition of wanting Acidic Swamp Ooze and Shadow Word: Pain to deal with Armorsmith and Acolyte of Pain. You want the Circle of Healing and Auchenai Soulpriest combo or Lightbomb to deal with Grim Patron Warrior. Northshire needs the boost from Shield to prevent it from dying from Fiery War Axe. Also expect a long match...
vs Priest: Shadow Word: Pain and Circle of Healing (If you have Auchenai Soulpriest or Injured Blademaster to go with it). Also expect a long match...
vs Paladin: You want Power Word: Shield (only with Northshire or Pyro), Northshire Cleric, Acidic Swamp Ooze, Shadow Word: Pain, Zombie Chow, Wild Pyromancer, and Circle of Healing (If you have Auchenai Soulpriest or Injured Blademaster to go with it). Pyro is needed to kill the 1/1 soldiers from the paladins hero power and from Muster for Battle. Also expect a long match...
vs Rogue: Keep Shadow Word: Pain, Acidic Swamp Ooze, Northshire Cleric (only with Power Word: Shield), and Circle of Healing (If you have Auchenai Soulpriest or Injured Blademaster to go with it). Shadow Word: Pain is great for dealing with Violet Teacher and the 3/3 minions of Rogue. Northshire needs the boost from Shield to prevent it from dying from Deadly Poison
Replacements Recommendations:
If you don't have Justicar Trueheart
I recommend replacing her with Vol'jin, Prophet Velen, Loatheb, a second Cabal Shadow Priest, a second Holy Nova, Holy Fire, Thoughtsteal, Velen's Chosen, or Mind Control
* Play Acidic Swamp Ooze in a meta where weapons are popular. Just remove a Shadow Word: Pain for it
Concluding Thoughts:
Well that's all I have to say for now. I hope you like the deck and please reply if you have any questions, comments, concerns or ideas.
Enjoy and have a good day :D
With the release of League of Explorers I decide it to be beneficial to add 2 Entomb and 2 Museum Curator. As far as this affects mulligans the only significant difference is you want Museum Curator in your opening hand in practically all match-ups.
* If you like this deck, then please feel free to click here to check out my experimental Reno Jackson Anti Aggro Priest deck! It's still a work in progress so any feedback about the deck is also welcome!
No Eater of Secrets? I have to add in at least one copy of it to tech against Secret Paladin, Face Hunter, and Freeze/Tempo Mage, those of which I see very often in Wild ladder.
Sorry but I let this deck get outdated. I haven't updated it since old gods (except for adding the wild tag) because it would require too much work not only finding what cards are good to add but also rewriting the entire guide for the new meta (although I'll try to get around to it at some point.) I do think your Eater of Secrets idea is valid and I'd probably replace a Museum Curator for at least one.
Awesome! Glad you enjoy the deck :)
Is 2 shdow word pains necessary x1 Zombie Chow and x1Shadow Word:Pain looks better
I have the 2 Zombie Chow and 2 Shadow Word: Pain to make this deck heavily anti-aggro. You could change these cards around and make it more of a Control Priest if you want to improve it in other matchups
I haven't played for some time, so I have a rule question:
Auchenai Soulpriest work if you play it after Justicar Trueheart, Does it deal 4 damage?
Yes
How do you figure we know what deck we're playing against during mulligan?
You just have to guess while laddering. Your best bet is to mulligan for whatever is most popular in the meta at the time.
I don't think it's that slow since you usually try to save each to couple with a hero power. The main problem I see is you won't have access to healing for 4 a turn that Justicar give you. It's not necessary for playing this deck but it certainly is a nice thing to have against aggro
i literally just googled Anti aggro deck out of frustration , i play a similar version of this . only diffrence it contains more healing .
while mentioning i did upvote your deck , i just don't think it works ... currently
i still die to shaman even when i clear the board and manage to have a taunt up .
So i missing 1 lightbomb, should i just replace it with holy nova for the time being?
that should be fine for the time being
or excavated evil bc more damage?
I don't like Excavated Evil that much since it goes to your opponent after you use it which gives it a high chance to backfire on you
Anti Aggro??? 2 x Lightbomb and only 1 x Holy Nova??? See kids, anyone can get legend.
I don't understand your issue with that. This deck already has 5 AoE's (7 if you count in the 2 Wild Pyromancer) so its not lacking in board clear and I see Lightbomb as better than Holy Nova because it can clear threats bigger than 2 health for only 1 extra mana (ex. Dr. Boom, Grim Patron, Piloted Shredder, a secret Paladin's board with Mysterious Challenger and other minions, etc). If you still feel so strongly that and extra Holy Nova is needed then by all means feel free to add one, I won't stop you. Also I ask that you please refrain from insulting my skills as a player without at least asking about my reasons for why I have things a certain way first. If you find fault in my logic and want to debate that then please feel free to, I'm open to constructive criticism. I bid you farewell and wish you a good day sir
I'm not sure if my luck's just bad or that this deck's too reliant on drawing certain combos(like most priest decks tho). I actually keep losing to aggro before i draw my board clears.. And those crabheads always have the answer for the taunts. On the other hand i actually beat all 3 handlocks i faced cos I had every combo and lightbomb waiting in my hand..
I personally have very rarely had that issue with this deck. The deck has 5 AoE's (7 if you count in the 2 Wild Pyromancer) so it's more likely then not you'll have something to clear the board with. I think its just bad luck, however if the problem persist for you I'd recommend dropping a Injured Blademaster and adding a second Holy Nova to help your chances.
Have you thought about Excavated Evil? I don't know how good it would be, just asking.
