Update 01-26-2015
I finally made it to legend with this deck. Below is a list of my estimated win percentages against each specific class I encountered. I actually didn't play against any Shaman deck.
Hunter 2.8/5
Warlock Zoo 2.5/5
Druid/Ramp 4.5/5
Control Warrior 5/5
Handlock 5/5
Rogue/Mech Rogue 3/5
Mech Mage 3.5/5
Freeze Mage 2.5/5 (only played vs. 2)
Midrange Paladin 4/5
Priest 3.5/5
Greetings, friend.
I'm currently at rank 3 using this deck starting from rank 5 with an above 80% winrate. The deck is fairly standard and pretty consistent which is nice for ladder play.
General information:
- Always keep in mind the overload cost that some cards have when planing your next turn. Especially turn 2 coin into Feral Spirit is not an optimal play.
- The main goal of this deck is to maintain board control. If you can use Al'Akir the Windlord and maybe Rockbiter Weapon to do favorable trades go for it.
- Don't overextend into commonly used board clears.
- Always use totemic call first before using a damage spell if you have the leftover mana.
Strong against: Warrior, Druid. Warlock (Handlock)
Weak against: Hunter, Warlock (Zoo)*
*Those matchups are not unwinnable, but you need a good start. Feral Spirit and Lightning Storm are your best friends.
Card choices:
1x Zombie Chow & 2x Haunted Creeper
Haunted Creeper has always been good in combination with Flametongue Totem to clear most earlygame threats. I include a single Zombie Chow to deal better with aggro decks. The 3 health of Zombie Chow is also great in combination with the Shaman's Healing Totems.
2x Crackle & 1x Lava Burst
I replaced both Lightning Bolts with these, because I think their a lot more viable. Surely it's random, but with all the spell damage you got you can clear much bigger threats. For example with just a single spell damage source you have a 75% chance of destroying any 5 health minions. Even without the still damage you're still looking at a solid 50% chance. I run a single Lava Burst for additional burst damage to close up games if needed. Also it's great to 1:1 minions like Shieldmaiden or Sludge Belcher and even Druid of the Claw with a spell damage source.
1x Antique Healbot
Hunter is the only reason why I play this card. It's also semi-decent against freeze mage, but that's an nearly unwinnable matchup in my opinion. Other than that it has solid value against Druid to get you out of combo range if necessary.
1x Al'Akir the Windlord & 1x Neptulon
I run both class legendaries in this deck. Al'Akir the Windlord has been mvp everytime I played it. You can either clear the board very efficiently and in some rare cases you can use him to burst the opponent down if you have some Rockbiter Weapons to go with it. Neptulon is just a one card value king. Even though you're 'only' getting some murlocs, your opponent still has to deal with them. Given the amount of possible outcomes it makes it very hard for your opponent to prepare for what might be coming with chargers like Bluegill Warrior or Old Murk Eye being available.
No Dr. Boom?
Even though that makes Neptulon my only Big Game Hunter target, I decided not to run him. Since there are a lot of overload cards in this deck, it might not be possible to play him on curve which I don't like. I'm not saying that the card is bad, but I'm just not playing it in this specific build. If you want you can probably take out Al'Akir the Windlord for it.
No Loatheb?
I would love to include this card in the deck. I will probably try taking out either an Azure Drake or Sludge Belcher for it, but I'm not sure yet.
Budget replacements (including full Naxxramas access):
- Sylvanas Windrunner + Defender of Argus
- Neptulon + Loatheb
- Al'Akir the Windlord + Big Game Hunter or Nerubian Egg*
*Nerubian Egg can be used in combination with Flametongue Totem and especially Rockbiter Weapon since you will have less efficient targets without Al'Akir the Windlord. It is also decent against board clears.
If you guys want a mulligan guide for this deck I can probably provide one, but I think there are quite a lot Shaman mulligan guides available in the interwebs. Also if you liked this hit +1!
This deck is way too good! Thanks for sharing!
The last 10 games have been my opponent getting me under 10hp, and i still win. 10-0 having a good time
Hey! I primarily play Shaman, and I've had pretty lucky pulls from my GvG packs in Arena - I own Neptulon and Dr. Boom, so I've been using them consistently in my midrange builds. The only thing that messes with them is Big Game Hunter or freeze.
I've been crafting and buying packs, and now I own every card needed to make this deck, except for a few: 1xPiloted Shredder, Al'Akir the Windlord, and Sylvanas Windrunner. What would you substitute for the second Shredder? I'm waiting to pull it after Arena, as I only spend money/gold on Classic packs.
Currently, I have enough dust for one legendary craft. Who do I pick? Out of the above options, Sylvanas has the most appeal for different decks, which is an important factor to me. However, I am also eyeing Ragnaros the Firelord. He is a great and powerful card that I always dread facing, and wish I could play myself. I understand Sylvanas can help more with board control, and flies under the radar of BGH, but she is not as much of a win condition.
How important is Al'Akir? I would prefer not to craft a class-specific legend when I am yet to collect Sylvanas, Ragnaros, or The Black Knight. I am interested in making strong Druid and Warlock decks over time, and I hear Ragnaros sees use in Druid builds (the ones that aren't afraid he'll die to BGH, anyway). Ultimately, I would love to have all of the Elemental Lords, and maybe even use them all in the same Shaman deck! I'm just waiting to see what Therazane the Stonemother will be like :)
One more thing: I also have Doomhammer, Earth Elemental, and Vitality Totem, if those could sway the decision.
Wow jesus christ this deck is too good. I never play shaman and i play well with this deck, i didn't think it was possible.
I always end up having tons of minions on the board at one time, so I always want a Bloodlust, but I can't seem to find a spot for it here.
Great deck ! Here's a gameplay for this deck against Oil Rogue. Probably you can add into your content :P
OMG I wanted to break my monitor, waiting on that rogue to take a turn. Good game, but not an exciting watch.
Hah ! It happens buddy :) well yeap , not an interesting game I agree.
Great Deck!! How can i better sub Silvanna? "Defender of Argus"?? Maybe Big Game Hunter or Doomhammer ???
I sub dr. for Loatheb.
Nice one :)
I Replaced 1x Earth Shock with 1x Windfury and 1x Haunted Creeper for 1x Dr. Boom, and now it works so good :D
this deck got me a winstreak from 20->5 so far, hoping to continue it to legend!
Hi Emogirly, how important do you think the zombie is post undertaker nerf?
is there any way to include Doomhammer and Boom in this without sacrificing too much? just personal preference since i really like doomhammer and Boom is just strong in general
Find it very hard to believe you hit legend with this
Nice deck, didnt you consider putting reincarnate for Sylvanas or Al'Akir? Also a bloodlust when you have too many useless minions/totems on field(in example spiders/chow)to make good trades or bursting.
Edit: I also started to think putting Big Game Hunter cause of Dr.Boom plays, its almost happening every game.
Do you keep rockbiter in opening hand? Or is it always best to use with Al'akir?
Hey I like the deck. Although as a Shaman player i highly highly highly suggest removing Lava Burst.
