StrifeCro took the originial deck to 33 ranked wins in a row on EU in January.
KEY UPDATES:Basic mulligan lists, new meta changes!
I managed to reach legend with this deck! (rank 5 - legend)
My record starting from rank 5
I chose to swap out a number of Strifecro's original deck as the meta is shifting and I am testing out new choices. Feedback appreciated.
CARD CHANGES:
+1 Troggzor the Earthinator
-1 Dr. Boom
+1 Cult Master
-1 Acolyte of Pain
+1 Blood Knight
-1Mind Control Tech
+1Acidic Swamp Ooze
-1Knife Juggler
I was not getting much value out of Acolyte of Pain and am testing out a Cult Master in his place. The synergy with Muster for battle and the general number of times you hero power really help Cult Master see value.
As for Dr. Boom, I found that with the abundance of BGH out there, it was seeing very little value as the only 7+attack minion. Troggzor has great stats without being in BGH range, and combos well with this deck and Tirion.
I believe it is important to note that before you make any changes to this deck, look at the curve and try to stick to it. The curve of this deck is a large part of why it works so well, and fudging the numbers could hurt chances of having good plays turn after turn.
Update 2: Will be looking at the decklist as meta stabilizes post-undertaker nerf. Also, Tales of Lumin put in the time to create a quick overview video of this deck and agree it should be on this page.
Update 2/3/15: New changes to move with the meta post-Undertaker nerf. Mech mages are rampant so I am testing to increase this decks odds of winning that match-up while remaining strong against other classes.
General Mulligans: Shielded Mini-bot, Knife Juggler, Muster for Battle, Aldor Peacekeeper
Against Aggro: Consecration
Mage specific: Blood Knight
Rogue/Warrior: Acidic Swamp Ooze
Paladin: Acidic Swamp Ooze + Blood Knight
Priest: Piloted Shredder(If you have coin)
Warlock/Druid/Hunter/Shaman: Follow general mulligans.
Good deck but it suffers a lot against hunters.
It generally suffers against heavy aggro decks like face hunter/mech mage. I have found my win rates to be better than before however with the latest patch.
Lay on Hands gives you the staying power to last in this deck. No other card can help against aggro and control like it. I would say it's more important to have for this deck. Piloted Sky Golem can be replaced with Sylvanas Windrunner or Cairne Bloodhoof if you want to stick to the mana curve. Bolvar Fordragon could work as he is another target that generally requires a silence, but has drawbacks if you top-deck him late into the game, whereas the other minions are quite good top-decked.
Other possible cards to try could be Sunwalker or Captain Greenskin
Guys, Im in a terrible doubt. I have dust for 1 leg....which one I should pick ? Troggzor or Dr.Boom ?
Dr. Boom for sure
Boom
i don't have Troggzor the Earthinator should i put Sylvanas Windrunner or Kel'Thuzad?
KT, Sylvanas isn't enough of a win condition.
I would recommend using RAG instead if you have him. I tried Kel and didn't really work that good in this deck. I just got enough dusk for Sky Golem and Tirion. Golem trades much better then Syl as most people will kill her with the one or two minions they have and you get nothing on the trade. Tirion is a life saver and makes people rage quit when you control the board. I still like Mind Control Tech better then Blood Knight for zoo and getting control of the board. I play with two Knife Throwers and for me creates more thread and works better then ooze. I haven't had that make or break a game. I also play with Acolyte over Cult Master. I like getting Acolyte and most cases you get 1-2 and doesn't hurt you late game. Cult Master relies on you having at least two more minions that can die in a turn to be effective. Adding Tirion made the difference between fighting Warrior to hold them in late game for the win.
i watched your video and have been playing your version of Strifcro`s deck, what do you say to subbing dr.boom for troggzor (to avoid BHGs) and poloted sky golem for sneeds old shreder?, i want to fit that in but dont know what to replace..if at all
Alright, I decided to finally make an account here so I could comment on this post. i'm currently 8-1 with this deck however I changed a piloted shredder for a kezan mystic. This helps a good bit against mech mage and hunter imo. I just finished a game where i took the mage's mirror entity and he conceded right there. Plus, you still get the same 4/3 for the same cost. Just an idea....
Other successful midrange paladin decks have been forced to run avenging wrath to deal with the rise of mech mages, particularly when used with 2 equalities. Would an avenging wrath fit here?
Only running one equality here so consecration+equality is better. Equality + Avenging Wrath IMO is a bit slow to turn a game around against Mech Mage.
Have you considered Harrison Johnes jn this deck?
I feel that Harrison throws the curve off too much. If you're against a non weapon class at least the Ooze is still a 3/2 for 2.
Would be nice if you could take a look at my deck and advise if you have any ideas:
I miss the quartermasters. I definitely think you should include some. They add so much value even if you only have one dude on the field.
Holy Wrath is a gimmick card and doesn't have much value
I think that your deck is lacking in a general theme. You run two Knife Juggler's but only one Muster for battle, which is the only real reason to run Knife Juggler.
Shielded Minibot's are generally stronger than Argent Protectors as these cards often end up being played at turn two, and a Protector has no target to shield that early in your deck.
Your deck is a bit slow with how many high mana cost cards you run:
5 at 7+
7 at 5+
If you want this to be a midrange deck I would recommend:
Troggzor for Loatheb
Holy Wrath for second Muster for Battle
1x Hammer of Wrath for a Quartermaster (Maybe drop another 5 drop for another Quartermaster)
I wasn't sold on the value of Lil' Exorcist when I tried it so maybe look into a different 3 drop such as Blood knight to help counter Mech decks or synergize with your own divine shields.
Hello,
Thank you for all the tips.
After some testing and a discussion with a friend of my- I ended doing some changes. Actual list:
Will let you know in a few days how it ended up.
Cheers!
Very good deck, my new favorite instantly when I tried it for the 1st time. I think there are lot of possible replacements like in the comments already mentioned. Acolyte to Cult Master, can't see why not. Boom to Sneeds, heck that might work!
I have always struggled vs. Mech mages with pretty much every deck I've used and this seems to be no exception. Unless I get a perfect mulligan with some delicious topdeck RNG I'm in big trouble before the game has even properly started. Could be I'm just bad against them :D
