StrifeCro took the originial deck to 33 ranked wins in a row on EU in January.
KEY UPDATES:Basic mulligan lists, new meta changes!
I managed to reach legend with this deck! (rank 5 - legend)
My record starting from rank 5
I chose to swap out a number of Strifecro's original deck as the meta is shifting and I am testing out new choices. Feedback appreciated.
CARD CHANGES:
+1 Troggzor the Earthinator
-1 Dr. Boom
+1 Cult Master
-1 Acolyte of Pain
+1 Blood Knight
-1Mind Control Tech
+1Acidic Swamp Ooze
-1Knife Juggler
I was not getting much value out of Acolyte of Pain and am testing out a Cult Master in his place. The synergy with Muster for battle and the general number of times you hero power really help Cult Master see value.
As for Dr. Boom, I found that with the abundance of BGH out there, it was seeing very little value as the only 7+attack minion. Troggzor has great stats without being in BGH range, and combos well with this deck and Tirion.
I believe it is important to note that before you make any changes to this deck, look at the curve and try to stick to it. The curve of this deck is a large part of why it works so well, and fudging the numbers could hurt chances of having good plays turn after turn.
Update 2: Will be looking at the decklist as meta stabilizes post-undertaker nerf. Also, Tales of Lumin put in the time to create a quick overview video of this deck and agree it should be on this page.
Update 2/3/15: New changes to move with the meta post-Undertaker nerf. Mech mages are rampant so I am testing to increase this decks odds of winning that match-up while remaining strong against other classes.
General Mulligans: Shielded Mini-bot, Knife Juggler, Muster for Battle, Aldor Peacekeeper
Against Aggro: Consecration
Mage specific: Blood Knight
Rogue/Warrior: Acidic Swamp Ooze
Paladin: Acidic Swamp Ooze + Blood Knight
Priest: Piloted Shredder(If you have coin)
Warlock/Druid/Hunter/Shaman: Follow general mulligans.
Been my main deck from the beginning!
Over 450 wins and a few changes to this deck of course
I think these are all viable options as you switch one good card with another. It is mostly about the meta, which choices are better. Currently with all the mech mages etc. I also have TBK switched out for Sylvanas who is doing more work than TBK.
Can't comment on troggzor, don't have him, but Boom is doing good work for me as well, even as he get's bgh 50% of the time. Tirion won a number of close games for me, would never change him, also in the current meta where he works well as a wall to turn around the board - and even if he gets TBK, you still get the weapon to continue.
There really isn't a replacement for Tirion. All taunt is bad against black knight. Rarely, I have found that people have an answer but turn 8. I was using RAG until I was able to craft him.
good replacement for Piloted Sky Golem?
Strifecro replaced it with Sylvanas.
Other than that maybe Cairne, but in the current meta with lots of 5/5 and Belchers I think he is inferior.
If you can afford it, I would however still recommend Sky Golem, your opponent is forced to deal with it immediately and e.g. against priests he is also efficiently baiting SW:D or even a mind control instead of getting it on Tirion.
doublepost
Sylvanas
Hi guys,
I am currently playing the original version from Strifecro's Video with good success (rank 9 atm, taking it slowly but hoping to hit legend this season).
All matchups work out nicely, but two are more 50/50 and I would like to improve my odds there: Oil Rogue & Mech Mage - so a few questions to the ppl higher on the ladder.
Oil Rogue :
- what's the general approach to this matchup, just remove minions and loatheb/belcher in turn 8/9 to avoid the deadly burst?
- is Harrison or Ooze the better addition and what to replace (I though ooze for juggler, as it doesn't cost so much and you don't need the extra cards from harrison - and in non-weapon matchups you get a playable 2drop). What weapon are you killing with it, the assassin's blade or also earlier weapons with poison?)
Mech Mage:
- the matchup feels a bit clunky atm with the mech mage dropping 2/3s and annoyotron, which makes muster, shield bot, tokens and even consecrate too slow to avoid him snowballing. How do you approach the matchup in general?
- is blood knight really making such a difference here?
- I was also thinking of going for a 2nd equality+pyro (but not sure what to remove, no juggler isn't a great idea either, if one is replaced for ooze already).
- older versions of the deck run chows - are those a better choice?
Or do I just have to suck it up and play enough to climb via the great odds against the other classes? 6/8 isn't bad at all (assuming the higher ranks aren't 50% mech mage...), but mech mage weakness is kinda annoying. If so, what are other decks that are good against Mech Mage & Oil Rogue - except Control Warrior vas Oil Rogue (don't have the dust foro that deck right now).
If you can manage to get 1-for-1 trades early on in the first few turns, you can probably win. That means Shielded Minibot, Zombie Chow, and Truesilver Champion are key to beating her. If she starts snowballing out of control, then you have a Consecration to get rid of damaged minions and small minions like Cogmaster and Gnome. Mid-late game, if you draw a Tirion and you have board parity, your chance of winning becomes much higher as they don't have an efficient way to gain tempo AND remove Tirion (Ping + Fireball = 8 mana). Just focus on keeping your life total high enough that you won't die to Antonidas combos hopefully, and try to draw your heals and tempo cards asap.
Against Rogue, I'd say it's pretty hard to beat her, you just have to hope she runs out of cards/options/boardclears. If she consistently gets good trades then it's very hard for you to come back, since your only burst damage sources are Truesilver and Consecration. Try to be ahead on the board and try to anticipate her combos and board clears. It's really hard to explain this matchup without just simply telling you to play Oil yourself :(
Good luck, I know this post was a few months ago but the concepts are similar, I reached legend last season without Tirion so hopefully that shows that you don't have to have legendaries to win.
This deck is a little bad mulligan luck and 5 zoo locks in a row away from punching a kitten.
Troggzor seems pretty bad tbh. If they have a couple minions on the board they can easily trade with him so he's only useful on a clean board. Kel'Thuzad seems like a much better alternative being only one mana higher while having a much larger impact on the game if he can't be dealt with.
They serve different purposes. Troggzor helps you finish games against control decks, or if you have board control so they can't use a board wipe easily.
KT isn't very protected as their are few taunts in this deck, which is what he has the most synergy with.
Lastly, KT costs 8 mana, where you already have Tirion and Lay on Hands for that turn. If I was to replace Troggzor it would be back to Dr. Boom
I don't have Troggzor and run RAG in its place. RAG can be a game changer and even if they have BGH at least you are doing 8 damage to your appointment or killing one of their creatures. I understand is costs 8 mana but I haven't it effecting the curve. Where as with Dr. Boom when they kill him with BGH all you are left with are this 1/1 bombs not worth 7 mana. What are your thoughts of using RAG in it's place?
Hi Everybody! What do you think about adding Pyromancer+equality? This combo require 4 mana, that will help to clear the whole board, this great idea vs mech mage. Sorry for bad english(
I'll test dropping the other Knife Juggler for this.
With one equality though is it going to be worth it? Maybe remove the other knife juggler and ooze and add a second equality in place of blood knight or cult master maybe? I don't have blood knight and still run mind control tech. I can't tell you how much value I get out of that card. About 85% the time I draw it I am able to use it to get board control. If I do cast it as a 3/3 with out any steel then I have board control and don't need to use it's ability anyways. I really like this deck but feel like it just needs a little tweaking to make it perfect but I feel like it's 95% there.
I tried this and the problem with both ooze and pryo is that you aren't going to play them on the second turn. It makes a huge difference to cause threat. I played a few games and found myself holding on to these cards. When I switched back to the jugglers made a big difference. I have tried taking out the mind con tech/blood elf and cult master. I am testing playing with two Acolytes. Played only a couple games but so far they seem to be working good. There are times when I feel like this deck ether needs more draw or life gain. However, I don't want to be holding too many cards in my hand that I can't take advantage of their main ability. Otherwise the deck may need a little more taunt. Maybe, add one or two Arcane Nullifiers.
I actually havent run into many weapon users recently so I dropped the Ooze for the Pyro. That way I still have 3 2-drops that are optimal turn 2 plays outside of coining.
Went from 9 to 14... today maybe im just not using it right.
Finally bit the bullet and crafted the two missing quartermasters. Cant believe how strong these paladin decks are.
