lol easy for you to say that if things go your way. you should remember that the only 4 cost minions in the deck is auchenai. your other early game minions are pyro, cleric and blademaster. tell me, how can you create better pressure than your opponent most of the time in your games? that's not true and those who have played priest a lot will tell you the same thing. belcher on turn 5 allows you to have some breathing room and a board presence that's not easily removed which is more crucial than waiting for a turn 8 to turn 10 velen + combo. that contradicts with what you just said that this deck isn't slow as your usual control priest.
Naaru combos well with your soulpriests and blademasters as well as cultist deathrattles / power word shield / your hero power. You've got tools to create pressure in the early game. I'm not saying its the deck's strongest point, I'm just saying you don't need a taunt to keep you floating.
no taunts because the cards u play are so big and legendary , the opponent will be forced to atack into them or he will eventually lose.this deck has the same outrageous amout of legendaryes as the warr deck.unfortunetly this deck kinda make me think this game is somehow pay to win and the best card in the came is your mother credit card.sorry for what i just said but this deck kinda confirm my theory , correct me if im wrong.
Yeah, that's about right. It's hard to win without the right cards.
Nice effort creating a deck that looks pretty good & Fun ! and finally someone made a deck who can rape those huntards and Zoobs.
I tried this deck with some changes(since i don't have all the legendaries)
So i switched out - The Black Knight for + Shadow Word: Death to give more pressure against Handlocks/Control
I Changed -Prophet Velen(Unfortunately DE'd him -.-"), with a +Mind Control for End-Game Pressure
I also changed -1 Light of the Naaru(Considering i dont have Velen) with a +Lightbomb
I took out Baron Geddon and added another +Holy Nova for, the same purpose, Board pressure.
and -1 Holy Smite with Cabal Shadow Priest(I felt like having another Cabal considering this deck allready counter zoo/Hun pretty well). or Silence depending on what classes i'm facing.
I'm not quite sure if these changes are the best, but that's what i've currently changed out. So far i got 10W 1L with that. Nice Deck Anyways! ;)
I like your changes. Ive switched out Black Knight for the same reason. I've also switched out a Light of the Naaru for Silence. It's great against Sylvanas and Kel'T. You can also use it on your own Rag to catch people off guard / give yourself a burst of directed dmg.
Those changes worked perfectly out for me aswell! Got a lot of board control with that, handled Locks pretty much easier!
So far i got a 5 winstreak with that :)
This is a solid deck, and I'm sure it's perfectly constructed for competing at legend rank. I was stuck at rank 10 and I got frustrated. I came here and found this deck bought a bunch of packs / crafted the legendaries. Moved up to rank 3 pretty quickly using these cards. However I noticed I struggled in certain matchups, and I would suggest making these changes if yer having trouble between ranks 1-10. I've played over 100 games using this deck.
1. I prefer playing with two shadow word deaths. Especially against handlock and control warrior. I'd suggest dropping the black knight in favor of a second swd. It just feels more relevant more often. I also feel that lightbomb is a stronger card in most matchups than bk.
2. Velen doesn't get the respect he deserves and this deck proves it. He's legit. However, if you have Ysera, I'd play Ysera instead. You don't usually wanna drop Velen before turn 9 because to get value out of him you need to drop him with hero power or other spells. Ysera is a better 9 drop imo. Ysera is much more difficult to destroy and is a serious threat to decks that focus on exhausting you (druid/mage). Velen can do great stuff, but he doesn't bring as much to the table - even with the synergies of this deck.
3. If you're not gonna play Velen, drop one of the light of the naruus. Replace it with whatever feels like it makes your deck click. Consider lightbomb and especially silence. Silence is great in a priest deck. Sylvannas is a threat to this deck, and silence is a strong counter.
4. Don't drop Baron Geddon. If you play enough games with this deck you'll understand how well he synergizes with the cards.
Like I said, this is a great deck as is. I wouldn't really encourage making changes, but here's some food for thought if yer having trouble.
Edit: If you're struggling with early game / hunters you can replace the cabal shadow priest with Mogor the Ogre, Don't wanna toss my credibility but.... He does seriously bad things to face hunters. I wouldn't recommend this unless yer struggling because cabal is better in most matchups.
This deck really doesn't feel the same without Velen. But Ysera makes a very solid substitute in slower matchups and is playable in a wider variety of decks. It just depends on how badly you want to play this specific deck. I think that in general you'd be happier with Ysera, but Velen makes this deck a lot of fun and gives it a unique feel.
Hey man thanks so much. I have to craft Harrison & I....DE'd baron since I haven't used him in months :/ now I regret it :( any...replacements (For now?)
Baron is great for clearing trash / going to face / baiting BGH. The closest sub I can think of would be Mogor, but lightbomb or a second holy nova might suit you better. Could also consider trying an abomination or Sneeds / Troggzor if you have them.
If you have played over 100 games with this deck alone i would assume you have played some other priest decks, how would you say this compares to a more standard control priest list?
Well. Basically. Yer replacing some of the control with huge legendary minions. It's good times.
Thanks for the great post and I did a similar thing aswell.. got fed up and got the packs to craft this heavy deck. I'm currently at rank 11 and want to hit legend. Have you hit legend yet with this deck? I see so many control warriors and I like playing something different yet still has the fat legendaries to match.
do you know if there's any footage of this deck being played?
I played it up to rank 2 last month, but that was my first time playing this deck. I was thinking about trying for legend this month, but I don't know if I'm cut out for the grind xD
I haven't seen any footage of this or a similar deck.
Thanks for the reply! I also agree that this deck is in dire need of some sort of silence. I find I have some nice cards up and the opponent drops sylvanas and I really have to gamble with her. It's happened for the past three games I've played in ranked mode. Do you have a suggestion on where I can fit that in in this deck? I'm thinking about replacing a smite or wild pyromancer with silence. Out of the 30 games I've played I've never needed more than one wild pyromancer.
Silence would help in a lot of instances. Sylvanas is a recurring problem. Ysera can wreck you. KT is a problem vs druids which tend to exhaust your sw:death(s).
I haven't tried removing a pyro, but that's something to consider and I'll definitely give it a shot. Two pyros in your hand usually feels like a waste. Do you have a lot of trouble in the early game playing with a single pyro? I DO find two pyros extremely helpful vs muster.
I've been subbing out the second light of the naaru because I weigh it and silence pretty evenly. If you do this, consider replacing Velen with Ysera (as noted above) or MC. MC is a very strong counter to...pretty much everything late game (including Sylvanas, Ysera, and KT). If you don't run silence OR Velen, I would strongly consider MC over Ysera.
Edit: Right after I posted this, I ran into a game vs a druid.... As it's winding down, I'm at 30 life and he's at 6. I have Rag in play. He has loatheb on the board and drops ... SYLVANAS hoping to eat a Rag fireball and potentially swing (read: end with combo) the game. Luckily I've been hanging on to silence the entire game just for her and kt. I silence rag and go face for the win. In any case, I think silence belongs in this deck, and I'd find some way to add it.
Thanks for the insightful reply. Yeah as of now I just took a pyro out and have been using silence but may take out silence and put another pyro in. I don't have ysera or else I'd try it, I had to craft like 4 legendaries to be able to finish this deck.. Velen being one of them so I think I want to play this deck for awhile as is to see if maybe I'm missing something. Civila must've been onto something to get to rank 1 so maybe a silence isn't in there for a reason....
I like how everything else is in the deck but I seem to get destroyed by control warriors. Do you have problems with them? I'm still learning how to play this deck and I'm sitting around rank 12 but just got owned by a control warrior with 26 health and 45 shield. Those armorsmiths are annoying and I was tempted to silence one of them because I knew that was going to happen.
Yeah if yer playing Velen, definitely play both Naarus. Control warriors aren't easy. You don't wanna silence the armorsmith because every decent control warrior runs Sylvanas for the brawl combo. They like to drop her the turn before they brawl and it becomes a win/win situation for them. That's really your best silence target vs a warrior.
Armorsmiths can be annoying. Your best bet is to try and hold your cards until you have a sure way to deal with them. It's ok to cabal them, especially if you've already dealt with an acolyte or two.
An overly aggressive start can be good vs warrior because it keeps their armor low, and if you have board control armorsmiths are easier to deal with. I find that dumping pyros is good here because they eat war axe durability, and the pyros are mostly worthless (or worse) late game. Don't worry too much about a warrior having 10+ armor. Just try to figure out a way to make them waste their shield slams before you drop your powerful minions. You will catch them in the long run if you're smart about playing your deaths. MC may be the best card you can have in this matchup. Some games you'll find MC + silence are simply better than Velen + Naaru. In general though, Civila's deck is solid and probably superior in the current meta.
Yeah that is exactly what I did last game and I destroyed him. When he dropped armor smith I didn't do anything until turn four then dropped auchenai and somehow took care of them. Winning turn I did a total of 26dmg using velen, holy fire, voljin and pyro. Felt good!
yeah it seems to be doing fairly good in the meta currently. I destroy mech mages as right when they're running out steam im throwing down fat cards that they can't take care of and they usually concede. I do have problems with hunters though but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I'm gonna keep honing my skill with this deck and get to legend with it!
