Freeze Mage
"The end is coming" - Doomsayer
Hello! I'm James1. I have achieved legend 7 times with Freeze Mage including season 10, 15,16, 17, 18 , 19 and 37. Proof in spoiler Below. The list you see now is the standard Freeze. Most people including myself thought this deck would be dead with the rotation of standard, however its really good right now.

The Guide
A cold welcome to newcomers of Freeze Mage. I would suggest start studying LaughingHS- if you are unsure how to play the deck. In the spoiler below is a list of streamers wh
Card Replacements
Alexstrasza : sorry there is no replacement for this card
Archmage Antonidas : If you would like to play this card remove a Forgotten Torch
Bloodmage Thalnos : 5th freeze spell like Cone of Cold is a excellent replacement. Lots of people seem to recommend Kobold Geomancer, however kobold is not very flexible, so I don't recommend it.
Match Up Guide/ Mulligan
Mulligan is really important in Freeze Mage. You dont want any secrets, Alexstrasza or Archmage Antonidas in your opening hand. The one card that is a 100% keep all the time is Arcanologist, Loot Hoarder and Acolyte of Pain.
In general aim to get this kinda of hand. This hand is completely nuts.
In general you should : draw or contest board > healing, unless you're close to death. For example: if you have the choice between Arcane Intellect or Ice Barrier on turn 3, play Arcane Intellect.
Vs aggro decks: you want a defensive card like Frostbolt or Doomsayer. Then ideally 2 draw minions such as Arcanologist or Loot Hoarder, to fight there 2 drop. Turn 5 is massive vs zoo, typically you want to Frost Nova, Doomsayer. This allows a turn 6 clean board to play your secret's, acolyte or Emperor Thaurissan (in wild), putting tempo back on your side.
Vs midrange decks : Keep 2 cost draw minions like Arcanologist, loot, thalnos. Arcane Intellect and Acolyte of Pain are also great here. Draw early so u can optimize later plays. Freeze spell get the best value later in the game, were as draw spells get weaker late game.
Consider keeping Acolyte of Pain till five mana against slow decks . With a ping you can guaranty at least 2 draws from him.
Key play: If you haveAlexstrasza them and are burning them out over 2 turns then priority is to Pyroblast turn 10. This is because pyroblast takes a hole turn. Thus if u get ice block popped on your 11th turn u can ice block while burning there face. Pyroblast first also plays around Loatheb in wild.
Important Combos
Turn 5 Acolyte of Pain + ping (Careful of overdraw)
Turn 5 Frost Nova - Doomsayer
Turn 6 Cone of Cold - Doomsayer
Turn 8 Blizzard - Doomsayer
Turn 10 Frost Nova - Archmage Antonidas
Still stronk and lot of Fun besides (expect vs. Hunter, meh!)
Barnes feels like a really good Turn 4 card to play - its so much value if u get Mini-Emperor/Bloodmage :)
Also I seem to face less Control Warriors in Ladder at the moment. So it might even be a viable Deck to play :P
emperor is about to be cycled out of standard anyway, but i would replace him with more card draw. yogg in a freeze mage defies the purpose of freeze mage.
freeze mage: survive and draw cards till you come into your combo to win
yogg: cast mindless spells and hopefully rng loves you
quite different decks indeed.
1. Yogg can draw
2. Yogg can put a lot of pressure or finish off when you don't have enough damage.
But emperor is just too good with this deck: you will have a lot of cards and discount matters.
Also, Emperor with barnes is just great.
By the way, you can replace barnes with yogg.
1. Yogg can kill you
2. Yogg can destroy all your combo pieces
see it's too easy to just list chance outcomes like that
No, use emeperor instead. an Evolved Kobold is IMO better than Barnes anyways.
This deck is basicly trash. Doomsayer NEVER clears the board because everyone runs removal. just get zurged
Yeah I find that Doomsayer rarely works too. However, your opponent has to spend mana and resources dealing with it which buys you a turn. The whole point is to stall the game as much as possible till your win condition.
Doomsayer is never bad. You always buy a turn, only a few cards outright kill it.
T5+ You combo with freeze spells to maximize the card's potential
Think how many decks ran deathlord and currently run deathlord in wild. It plays a similar role with a potentially enormous upside. If your opponent can't kill it, you get a board clear for 2 mana (value, anyone?), and if he can, congratulations, that's at least seven less damage to your face. So basically, unless it gets hexed or polymorphed (which it very well might be, but then you're still getting the better end of that trade-off) it's like a 2 mana--your opponent chooses for you either gain 7 armor or destroy all minions. Sounds pretty good to me.
Hey man, is there any updates to this deck?
Amazing deck, i'm with a 50% win rate even without Alexstrasza which is one of the key cards.
I never seem to get any value out of Antonidas. Would subbing in pyroblast make the deck just as good?
I don't have Antonidas and i run a copy of Pyroblast and it works great.
Im not getting value out of antonidas as well...Been using Ragnoros works a lot better
Antonidas works awesome - just beat hunter with antonidas from barnes.
Also he basically has a taunt.
Hoal!
I like how you removed Mirror Image, me personally don't find it very useful too i'm gonna try the Flamestrike.
It's hard to say.
The original Freeze Mage deck didn't have either (http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/157288-classic-freeze-mage, you could make this standard by swapping the Mad Scientists for Novice Engineers), but Forgotten Torch gives you a lot safer early game and Emperor Thaurissan outright wins about 5% more games from the discount.
It's definitely possible for you to piece together a playable, though much worse, version of Freeze Mage without them. If you decide you like the deck, I'd definitely recommend picking up the adventures (it's better in Wild than standard, anyway, so you'll get plenty of use out of them) to finish the deck.
What about malygos?
Hey guys,
I´ve just started to play this deck few weeks ago. After 20-30 Games you get used to it and its REAL FUN!
I`m currently Rank 5 with about 55% winrate. I sucked vs control warrior, which is obvoius (Imo you can just concede when he gets more than 20 armor until turn 7/8). But also I struggled really hard vs Shaman (2:8) which should not be, should it!? They just had so many answers for Doomsayers + can build up massive boards really quick. You have any ideas / suggestions for me?
Zoo was pretty nice to play aginst though :)
