EDIT (v1.7 on February 10, 2023) - A new look at Reno DK
This new deck list is so fresh that you can even consider it a separate deck. I tried multiple versions of Reno DK in standard, including 30-cards versions. What I found is that in the current Standard meta, this works better. In case you'll see that Aggro decks are dominating, I suggest shifting to 30 card version since you can pull our Reno more consistently.
Thus, this deck is more value-oriented. Please let me know if you have any questions - I can record a video explaining my choices + a few example games
Before you start
The deck is not easy deck. It is definitely NOT A META DECK.
SERIOUSLY, PLEASE DON'T TRY IT IF YOU'RE NOT OPEN TO EXPERIMENTING - WHICH MEANS YOU CAN LOSE.
As with any other deck, in order to stay effective, you need to adapt to your current opponents. I change and improve my decks several times every month, depending on what's trending. With this one, you should do it as well
Hi folks!
I haven't posted for a while but this deck is nuts! It still performs pretty damn well, even after Prince Renathal nerf. I also used Denatrius but since it was nerfed, I don't see it as an additional win condition anymore.
There are several reasons why this deck is effective:
- multiple win conditions removals: Patchwerk, Mutanus the Devourer, Theotar, the Mad Duke, and their combos with Brann Bronzebeard, Zola the Gorgon and Youthful Brewmaster
- several win conditions: Alastor Bloodsworn, Alexandros Mograine, Lor'themar Theron, and their combos with Brann Bronzebeard, Zola the Gorgon and Youthful Brewmaster
- insane survivability: Vampiric Blood, Reno Jackson, lifesteal cards and board clears;
- multiple Discover cards: it is already well known that the DK discover pool is broken - so let's use it!
Also quite standard for Blizzard to print broken legendaries every new expansion. until such cards like The Invincible and Astalor are nerfed, I highly recommend using them. This deck is costly tho, and unfortunately, not so many cards can be replaced. However, if there will be a request from your end, I can post a less expensive deck list (I actually tested it on my twink account)
EDIT (v1.2)
Changed the deck list slightly after some additional playtests. As with any other Reno deck, card draw is more important for real success: added Famished Fool. I also removed low-cost tech cards because the current meta Is all about late-game combos (and they are not that game-changing, to be honest). Removed:
- Mistress of Mixtures
Instead, I added stronger cards (in my opinion):
EDIT (v1.3)
Removing Sunfury Clergy in order to put Queen Azshara. My logic behind this replacement: we already have a lot of health regen cards, so Sunfury Clergy does not make a huge difference. Indeed, it's a strong card but even +6 health is not enough to recover if the enemy dominated the board.
Queen Azshara, on the other hand, can be activated relatively early (since you have some cheap spells in this deck + you'll discover more) to bring you this domination. It's a 5/5 body that can give you a cheap colossal minion on the same or next turn, or copy some strong spell like Asphyxiate or Corpse Explosion
EDIT (v1.4)
Added Sir Finley, Sea Guide. He's a great and CHEAP way to find those cards you're missing to turn the tides of the battle: Reno, Patchwerk, Soulstealer...
EDIT (v1.5)
Okay, so here is the list I'm currently using my last 25 games with it were 22-3. What I did...
Removed:
- Queen Azshara
- Abominable Lieutenant
- Insatiable Devourer
Added:
- Blademaster Okani (returned him back)
- Taelan Fordring
- Excavation Specialist
Logic:
1) More defense against aggro. Taelan Fordring will draw Soulstealer unless he is already in your hand. Insatiable Devourer should be infused to maximize its effect, and even tho it looks like a solid option, it will slow you down because it costs 9 mana
2) Excavation Specialist can a) bring you something useful for the momentum from your huge, 40-card deck, b) decrease the cost of the Dredged card by 1 and potentially unlock new combos (e.g. 2-mana Brann + Alastor) and c) great body stats for its cost. Also, it's synergies with Sir Finley if you swapped something earlier and you want to get back (since you know those cards are on the bottom, right?)
3) More consistent mana curve. Adding more 4-5 mana bodies to be able to play them for tempo since the previous deck list had just a few 4 mana cards
4) Queen Azshara is still a solid option but I prefer cards that can be played without additional "activations" - and sometimes you really lack some spells in this deck. If Ashara comes to you in the late game, you'll have a hard time activating her. Replaced with Blademaster Okani
EDIT (v1.6) - ALTERNATIVE DECK LIST
Most recently, I'm getting more VS Aggro matches. Shockspitter is a card that's quite hard to counter since Hunters can copy them multiple times, plus its damage depends on the number of Hero attacks. I added some tech cards and removed the ones that rarely were played during the matches.
Removed:
- Invincible - too expensive against aggro. Plus, it interferes Taelan Fordring's deathrattle: without it, you are guaranteed to get Soulstealer, which can really save you against aggro Hunters, Warlocks, Paladins, Druids, and even rare aggro Priests
- Noxious Cadaver - not really a game changer so replaced with another tech card
- Battleground Battlemaster - I barely played it. This card can finish them off if you have a strong body - and this deck brings a lot of them - but scenarios in which you have these bodies uncleared for two turns are when you (most likely) already won
Added:
- Acidic Swamp Ooze - was in the initial version of this deck, returning back to break weapons (priority to find against Hunter)
- Rustrot Viper - same as Ooze + you can trade it if you're facing some non-weapon classes
- Icehood Protector - this is interesting choice I must say. I'm still testing this setup but the card is doing just fine against aggro - especially if empowered with Lor'themar Theron
Can you add the mulligan section, please?
Are you streaming your games somewhere?
Indeed!
Previously, I suggested Steamcleaner as a tech card against Quest Priest but in fact, I never added it to my deck. Within the last 50 matches, I met Priests 3 times (according to HS Deck Tracker), all of them were Quest Priests and none of them won
That's a nice question!
Invincible is just a very strong card in my opinion. It can be combined with Youthful Brewmaster, Battleground Battlemaster, and potentially with Brann for a more devastating effect. If you lack some of the cards on my list, you can try to replace them with some more Undeads to have more Undead synergy.
Abominable Lieutenant is just a strong removal that can potentially grow into something very big. It's also an Undead, which makes him even better
How important is Invincible and Abominable Lieutenant? For me, the games where I can play them are the ones where I already won
Indeed, just found this gem and on the roll with 7 wins already (Platinum 8 at the moment). Not sure how it will perform further but it's fun - that's for sure
Very fun deck, thank you!
I tried in legends just dosent stand up to other late game builds like ramp druid and quest priest and only really works against some decks like frost dk
Greetings!
The deck should be definitely adapted to the opponents you're currently facing. If they are mostly ramp druids and quest priests, I'd suggest removing some survivability tools and tech cards like Acidic Swamp Ooze (actually, I replaced it as well now).
You might also add Steamcleaner to deal with Priest's quest.
The top priority cards to draw are:
- Brann
- Mutanus
- Patchwerk
- Theotar
Ideally, you need to copy Patchwerk or Mutanus with Zola so they lose even more win conditions. My point is, in the current Standard meta, a lot of win conditions are locked inside legendary minions.
I'm playing this deck for the last two days and must say that Quest Priest is one of the easiest opponents.
The reason is simple: they can't play their quest reward on the same turn they get it. So, you can eat, swap or destroy it with Mutanus, Patchwerk, or Mad Duke
Hey man, very nice list, gave it a try and smooth games for me, love playing reno decks and I love playing control decks so seems like this was made for me. If anyone wanna se the deck in action you can here :
