Just finished taking this from Bronze 10 - Legend with a 49-29 record. 6-8 vs DH, 11-6 vs CW and 12-0 vs Quest Hunter.
Can struggle with mech mage/paladin because we only have Blademaster Samuro and Lightforged Cariel for potential board clears, but if you can board control early and don't get blown out by Mecha-Shark or multiple Gaia, the Techtonic you should be alright. Only played 8 games total vs those 2 classes so probably not too big an issue.
Ring of Courage can be really powerful with Blademaster Samuro, but is probably too slow against DH. 1 damage aoe might be enough if you can clear Battleworn Vanguard because it just provides too much tempo against us since we want to abuse divine shields early to gain the board.
Mulligan Guide
Demon Hunter:
Righteous Protector, Seafloor Savior, Treasure Guard, Cariel Roame. Lightforged Cariel can be kept if you have multiple defensive tools and think you can get to 7 at 15+ hp.
Can keep Blademaster Samuro if you have Alliance Bannerman as well. look for defensive tools as well.
If you face a lot of DH, you can consider adding City Tax, and Sir Finley, Sea Guide to reset bad hands.
Control Warrior:
Knight of Anointment, Seafloor Savior, Azsharan Mooncatcher, School Teacher.
If you want to be greedy you can also consider Lightforged Cariel. Battle Vicar is fine if you have a 1 and 3 drop already. Look for Immortalized in Stone and The Garden's Grace. If you keep up the pressure the will eventually run out of removal. If you draw Mr. Smite early, make sure to keep a couple minions in your hand to avoid Mutanus the Devourer.
Quest Hunter:
Azsharan Mooncatcher, Seafloor Savior, School Teacher, Lightforged Cariel
if you can get Sunken Mooncatcher down early, especially with a buff, they have a very hard time dealing with it.
Try and avoid giving them early minions to use spells on. divine shields are really powerful against them. With School Teacher and Battle Vicar look for Holy Maki Roll or Hold the Bridge. Flash of Light is decent too.
Yes, Varian was actually a late addition. I think the substitution would vary on your meta. If you face lots of DH I would consider more early game minions or city tax. If you face more CW I would look for a bigger threat. Cairne, Mothsership or Alexstrasza could all work pretty well. Deathrattles that summon minions are pretty powerful against CW since they have limited AoE.
Thanks for the reply, I'll try those out.
Can it function without Varian? If so what would you sub?
