Hello everyone!

So, Runed Mithril Rod got nerfed at into oblivion at 5 mana... Owl warlock is dead, right?

WRONG! Here's a new variation of owl warlock, thanks to Desecrated Graveyard and a beautiful 2 mana card from Naxxramus...

Ahh... the Nerubian Egg. Who can remember this card from 2015? It was a beautiful card, and now after the Core Set redesign, it's back in Standard.

How to play this deck. Mulligan hard for Desecrated Graveyard, Backfire and Runed Mithril Rod. If you don't have a graveyard, throw ALL your minions away in the mulligan.

Going into the first turn, there are six 1-mana minions and three "Tradeable" cards, so you will almost always have something to play on turn 1.

-- How to Play this Deck --

Turn 1 - play a 1 mana minion, like Spirit Jailer or Armor Vendor

Turn 2 - if you have graveyard, play Nerubian Egg, else tap

Turn 3 - if you have a minion on board, play Desecrated Graveyard, else Backfire, else tap and play a Shadowblade Slinger

The dream opening is Armor Vendor into Nerubian Egg into Desecrated Graveyard - this will give you two 4/4's at the end of turn 3.

Then, on turn 4 and turn 5, keep drawing and feeding small minions into the graveyard.

The graveyard opening is an aggressive and high value early-game play! It will keep your opponent busy on turns 3, 4 and 5 as they use removal on the 4/4's insteaad of playing their own threats - this gives you some breathing space to play rod on turn 5 or turn 6.

If you didn't draw Desecrated Graveyard early, play Backfire to look for your Runed Mithril Rod and use your removal to control the board.

After turn 6, when you hopefully have played Runed Mithril Rod, use Backfire or Dreadlich Tamsin to draw cards and trigger the ticks on the rod.

Drawing cards is important in this deck. Whenever you can tap your hero power or trade a tradeable card, do it - without overdrawing, of course :)

Now, in the mid game, you want to draw and play Humongous Owl. If your opponent has silence (priest) or devolving missiles (mage or shaman) you need to use Grimoire of Sacrifice on the same turn you play the owl.

After playing an owl and triggering it's deathrattle, your objective is to now draw into your combo:

  1. an upgraded Wicked Shipment, either four or six 1/1's
  2. the one and only Tamsin's Phylactery
  3. one or two School Spirits, or a cost reduced Entitled Customer

Once you have the combo in hand, continually evaluate the board state and you're opponents health and armor, versus the number of minions you can play on the board before firing the combo (your imps from Wicked Shipment, and any other cheap minions in hand).

When you calculate enough 8 damage swipes to the face, go for the combo - BOOM!

  • 16 health - two swipes to face
  • 24 health - three swipes to face
  • 30 health and 2 armor - four swipes to face
  • 30 health and 10 armor - five swipes to face
  • 30 health and 18 armor - six swipes to face
  • 30 health and 26 armor - seven swipes to face

If your opponent goes wide and plays many threats - use Entitled Customer to clear. If they play one annoying threat - use Maiev Shadowsong to put them to sleep and play the combo on the next turn.

The Rustrot Viper is a crucial card versus paladin, warrior and warlock mirror match - keep it in hand versus those classes - for all others, trade it away.

That's it, I hope you like this deck :)
