ALTERAC UPDATE :
Well, I'm back in Legend with this deck but to be honest I'm not sure it's a long-term proof that the deck is solid. It's a proof that this deck destroys paladins :) I climbed from diamond 3 to legend with this build of the deck. During that climb I faced 9 paladins and won 8 times. Also, it seems players make a lot of mistakes while adjusting to the new meta. I won 2 games against warlocks who milled their combo.
I changed the deck 3 times in december:
1) before Alterac, removed Entrapped sorceress and put another Devouring plague (thanks to TrashOG who suggested it).
2) with Alterac, replaced the 2 Priests of An'she by Spirit Guides, one Mo'Arg by Xyrella, the Devout. And also the Desperate Prayers by Gifts of the Naaru (thanks to Phoesias for the suggestion).
3) when I realised Paladins where everywhere, I removed the 2 Clerics of An'she and put another Shard of the Naaru and Auctioneer Jaxon because she is gold in this deck with 2 trade cards. I also exchanged 1 Hysteria for Najak Hexxen, an incredible card against paladin - this last change really weakens the resurrection effect and I will change back when quest warrior becomes popular once again (and I'm sure it will).
Most of the legendaries are not key in this deck so don't rush to craft any of them if you want to try it !

November comments:
I just reached legend with this quest priest deck. This was NOT an easy climb : I changed it a ton of time but this particular build went from D5 to Legend without a single change.
To build the deck I focused on 2 purposes : quest progress and high defense. And I wanted no dead card against quest warrior because it's everywhere. This is why there is no Mutanus and Priest of An'she instead of Ogremancer.
You have 3 different strategies and the key to climb is to know which one to apply against each deck of the meta. I started my final rush once I applied strategy n°3 against Pirate warrior (more than half matchups during the climb, I think, but I have no stats - I play on my phone).
Strategy 1 : You don't care about the quest. Against aggro. I still keep the quest for the rewards, though. You just exhaust their resources and win. These are the easiest matchups. Quest rogue is more difficult because you can't rely on your big taunts and you need a lot of defensive spells from your discovery cards. Another key action is to get a 6 mana elemental killed before he completes his quest.
Strategy 2 : Rush the quest and pray. Against quest mage, quest warlock, quest shaman... You need to be lucky to win but this deck has the tools for quest rush and it works sometimes. These are the worst matchups but all of them are winable. Quest warlock is the worst, I think you can't afford more than 1 turn without quest progress. Quest mage was unbeatable before the nerf but now it's a bit easier than warlock.
Strategy 3 : The quest is the win condition but you don't have to rush for it. Against quest warrior. You have two 5, 6, 7 and 8 drops in the deck and you never save the first one of each for quest progress. Once you get 2 big deathrattles killed, the resurrected detahrattle minions will give you the time to complete the quest. Usually this matchup concludes when you have less than 5 cards in your deck (if you win it :-)).
I hope these tips help a few priest players, enjoy.
EDIT :
Here are some possible replacements.
- The nameless One is not key in the deck. You can replace him by Maiev Shadowsong or Multicaster. Multicaster is actually vey cool once you have played both a Shadow and Light spell but what I don't like with him is that he's difficult to play against quest warrior (same reason as Mutanus). Holy Nova can also be a replacement.
- Priest of An'she can be replaced by Ruststeed Raider.
looks like a meme first, but it works suprisingly well
Gift of Naaru perfect fits into this deck as well as Spirit Guide wich can replace Priest of An'she. It has taunt + Deathrattle + Carddraw. Its just perfect.
I also replaced 1 Mo'arg Forefiend with Xyrella the Devout, she heals you up and draws you the Shard if its the only Holy Spell in your Deck wich is the case most of the time when only a few cards left in your deck
Yeah I made 2 of these changes : Xyrella the devout and Spirit Guide.
What did you replace with Gift of Naaru ? Cleric of An'she ?
desperate prayer
Hah! I just made legend again this month using this awesome deck! I worked hard to get legend before expansion comes out so that I can goof around in legend ranks trying new stuff without having to worry about moving up the ladder.
I did make one change to the list that helped me out quite a bit. I switched the Entrapped Sorceress [/card] for another [card] Devouring Plague to counter all of the face hunters that buff their one-health minions and it worked much better for me. I had good win rates against all decks except for Fatigue Quest Warlock. I beat that deck only once when I had perfect quest draws every time, otherwise, you might as well concede and move on.
Cool ! That's funny, I also removed the Entrapped Sorceress this month. This was clearly the weak card of the deck - but I put a Deeprun Engineer instead.
I also wanted to reach legend before the expansion but you are better than me (or you played much more ^^) : I'm at diamond 3 right now.
nice deck man!! any replacement for the nameless one?
happy that you like it!
The nameless one is not a vital card at all, it's in the deck because it like it a lot (and he saves you from difficult situations quite often)
You can replace him by a lot of 4 mana cards. Maiev shadowsong for example, holy nova if you don't have Maiev. Multicaster is also a good card for this deck.
I've never posted anything here, but this deck makes me wanna do it, it's just amazing, I'm sitting with 75% (15 - 5) and I'm having a blast with it, not sure if it's lucky of something but it definitely works and it's fun!
Thanks a lot for your message. I also wondered if I was very lucky during the climb but I think we can say that the deck works well - there are enough people who posted here to say it works for them.
This deck makes me want to KMS. I spent 3600 dust to make it cuz I needed 2 of the leg and 1 epic. I'm sitting at platinum 10 rn, ftr.
First game: demon hunter. 30 min game both almost drew our whole deck, couldn't keep up or deal with the threats. Frustrating loss.
Second game: mill warlock. I knew I was screwed from the get go. This deck is all over the ladder rn and an obvious loss to this deck. Needless to say, spent another 20+ minutes on a loss.
At this point I've played hearthstone for an hour for 2 losses. Yay.
Third game. Questline priest! Well this should be interesting and a true test. 20 minutes of trading and I got 9 cards left in my deck and still working on 2nd tier of my quest. Because this genius put TWO five cost cards in the whole deck. The whole deck is low cost cards to discover crap to maybe get your quest. But if they don't pop, they don't pop, and there's no backup in ur deck. This priest killed me with the quest kill shot while I still had 9 cards in my deck and was never able to play a 5 cost. And by that time, I had played all my 7s and 8s (which there are also only two of) just to stay alive /trade. The damn guy never even hit my face once. Just ended it mid-late game with the quest, which I wasn't even close to finishing.
This deck has major flaws, I'm going to try to remove some of the low cost minions that just discover spells are are worthless when resurrected. Add that 5 cost legendary (taelan) that has taunt and draws ur highest minion. And prolly add two of those 2 cost minions that add a random priest spell after one is played. (Edit: I meant sethekk but that's useless. I'm currently trying 1 condemn and a Barron geddon for board clear on druid/pirate/rogue/etc)
The deck is pretty much all heal heal heal and stay alive til the decks run out. But I don't see how u got to legend in this ladder with warlock mill decks, ok mage, and tons of aggro hunters and warriors.
Needless to say, very very frustrating experience with this deck the way it is. Once again, I'm sitting at plat 10, and spent 90 minutes to go 0-3. Wanted to pull my hair out.
Will try to make some changes and report back, because I want to try this deck as a core concept. Maybe the meta is dif on the last climb to legend. But it's useless in platinum from my experience.
Hello
There are only two 5 drops in the deck because I don't like the others against aggro and this deck is not about completing the quest quickly (except against mage and warlock quest). If you prefer to put another one, I would suggest ruststeed raider and not Talean because you don't want to resurrect him.
For the rest : demon hunter is normally easy win, quest warlock is a normal loss unless you progress on quest almost every turn and quest priest is probably random but I never play against that. But this is not very important because most matchups are against aggro at the moment. Most aggro decks are easy to beat. Quest warrior is more difficult but would be quite easy if Mr Smite didn't exist.
I'm plat 5 and had a completely different experience I'm actually 8-2. Not sure if I got lucky or you're doing something wrong.
You can discover spells that cost 5 if you really need them. I would anyway not offend members of this community and remember no one actually forced you to play this deck and spend your dust.
Ideas for a replacement for Soul Mirror?
For me, Soul Mirror and Elek are the only good 7 drops for quest priest at the moment so I would put another Elek
Soul Mirror is key in a couple of matchups (Celestial alignment-survival of the fittest druid / miracle priest), and very useful to clear a round of aggression against other decks (pirate warrior or even beast druid). I feel like in many cases, if i had an Elek instead of Soul Mirror i would've lost.
I agree with you but I have no better idea for a replacement... the only good thing about not having Soul Mirror in the deck is that you can discover it with Pandaren. So maybe it's better to count on discovery and play with only one 7 mana card.
In that case you can put another 2 or 3 mana card. I like Deeprun engineer : on round 2 followed by Circus Amalgam on 3, it's very good. And you can also discover Goliath if you don't have a 7 drop for the quest.
I have to thank you for posting this. I also reached legend with this deck!
I am a long time Priest control player with 8.6k wins. I hate playing the same aggro/quest decks that everyone else is playing so I usually try to find a Priest deck that beats the meta. This has been a real challenge this season. I tried all sorts of Priest decks. The climb to D5 was fairly easy, but I was having a real tough time making it from D5 to legend and this deck got me there.
Well done!
Thanks for your message.
Just like you, I really wanted to beat the meta with acontrol deck. Last month I played warlock and failed, and this month I went for quest priest. Just like you. I climbed easily to D5 with a different build but then I couldn't make legend. I tried different stuff and this deck was the solution.
Fun deck!
Thanks for this! I used it to make legend as well!
