This deck is all about heavy control until you can get your discounts through Vanndar and insight going. With the sheer amount of value you get from amulets, discover cards, and N'zoth this deck will go on forever. I have had games where one turn I am 3 health vs Pirate warrior and the next turn I have 20+ life and 16 armor. Play smart and hold your weapons until the right time and this deck will Win for you. Enjoy!
Update #4 - Back to the Basics
These picks complicated things to much, Keep it Simple Stupid! (And by that I mean better!)
-2 Raise Dead, +2 Draconic Studies
-1 Sphere of Sapience, +1 G'huun the Blood God
Want to love it, but can't... the deck doesn't work against the current meta... much like every other Priest deck... Priest is the redheaded step child to Blizzard who continue to make it the weakest and useless class... I miss the old days.
I think its looking really promising for all sorts of control shennanigans!! Im getting pretty excited!
Yes absolutely!! Mage will finally be a tough matchup again with a mass board clear, but xyrella just proccing deathrattles instead of summoning is really nice. Excited for late game value next expansion!
With Vanndar there are finally "fun to play"-control decks again in Hearthstone. Unfortunately this deck loses 9 out of 10 games against Quest Warlocks, because they usually fatigue to fast for you to build a big board. And there are a lot of Quest Warlocks right now after the Mage Quest Nerf. In general the deck is a bit too much draw dependent for me... There are games, where your hand is clattered with expensive minions, but no Vandar and others, where you have him on 4 but don't draw the other minions in time for you to be saved. Every game is basically you getting beaten down until turn 6 and then either you clawing your way back with a lot of health restoration and resurrecting minions or you just die cause the pressure is to high. I just wanna share my thoughts on matchups, so you can decide for yourself, if you want to play this deck.
Warlock: most of them are Quest Warlock and as I said that's basically an auto-lose. You need fast pressure before he completes his quest but most of the time he will kill you by taking fatigue damage for him.
Warrior: against Quest Warrior I have a pretty good winrate, as long as they dont have a perfect pressure hand. There are aggro variants with weapons and the 3-3 who shoots twice if the hero attacked, those are pretty dangerous. You should be able to outheal the slower variants of the deck.
Rogue: lost all games against rogue but it wasn't a very big sample (6 games). One of those games was against a weird Control C'Thun Rogue who had Shadowjeweler Hanar at a time where I didn't have an answer for 3 turns. And let me just tell you: 90% of possible secrets are just deadly for this deck. Against Quest Rogue I feel like I got quite unlucky for a few times when they got the "return to owner hand" gizmo as a reward but the tempo of rogues is generally pretty high.
Hunter: Quest Hunter does not care, that you have minions! Those games were lost before turn 8.
Paladin: against Hand Buff Paladin this deck does pretty well as long as you draw Soul Mirror and Shard of the Naaru. They can be easily outlasted and most of the time have only one answer against a big board. Good thing you can create 3 big boards with N'Zoth and 2 Amulets.
Druid: Celestial Druids is 50-50, depending on how good their draw is, but you get a lot of benefit out of Celestial as well. Against aggro druid the amount of board clears and silence in this deck do pretty well.
There weren't that many Shamans and Death Hunters on Ladder and I've only played 3 Mages (2 who apparantly didn't know that the quest was nerfed. Those were wins, Death Hunters were OTK and of course auto lose, Shaman was an easy win. All in all I have a winrate of below 50% and I think I'm a pretty decent player who knows what do Mulligan and what to play for in different matchups. Hope this helped!
Good observations and summary.
What should I replace Sphere with? I do not own that card unfortunately :(
You could put in really any of three legendary dragons that I feel would fit that legendary slot, so Ysera, Alex, or Maly. Really depending on your matchups atm. More agro? Run Ysera or Alex. More control/value? run Maly. Doesnt give you that same early game or ease of use, but is ok and fills the dragon slot in your n'zoth pool as well
I think the Raise Deads dont fit this deck. Becuz theres no early minions, Raise Dead becomes a dead card till late game, and the late game already has amazing tools now with rez ing the DR minions from Amulet. Too many early game pressure decks to include 2 copies of Raise Deaq. In my opinion.
I would agree, but raise dead has saved me in a ton of agro matches already by being able to tempo out more lightshowers or mo'args before amulets are ready or N'zoth. You can replicate Goliaths, mutanus, etc. It works outwell!
I thought the same about Raise Dead, but in the end i have to say, that it works very well after turn 6. With all the aggro Warriors atm, it wouldn't be a mistake, to swap them out for Holy Smite. It's just terrible, if you can't clear Defias Cannoneer on 3
From Diamond 9 to 5 with 7 wins in a row. Shard of the Naaru was MVP against all those Paladins and Taunt Druids
Silence is super underrated :). Glad to hear it's working for you!
Just logged in to say this deck works surprisingly well when you know hoy to play it. Reminds me of quest rogue trying to find the 2/2 2 mana that gives your minions +1/+1, although you dont need to find the keycard to win. My last legend was 3 months ago and I’ve been climbing the ladder really quick with this deck. Feels the old control that I’ve loved. Only struggled vs a mage that had amazing luck with astrolarian and vs two warriors that found the pirate that gives your pirates charge with the juggernaut. Had no problem vs hunters and the others decks (found a priest that ran a similar version than yours but had less drawing/tools). Also I’ve been encountering paladins that had lots of 1 mana minions that I’ve cleared with holy nova (so I thinl this card is not useless, worled like a charm when needed).
Really good job mate, I’m giving you +1 because I can’t give you +100!!!
The deck works perfectly, but I've made some tweaks.
-2 Holy Nova +2 Raise Dead / -1 Malygos +1 Taelan Fordring / -2 Fleethoof Pearltusk + 2 Draconic Studies
Honestly I don't like Holy Nova, it's not bad but 4 mana is too much, I usually only used it if it cost 2 or less, and even then I felt like it wasn't really worth it as Condemn does this job so well. Also, Raise Dead is very good at solving the card draw problem, you don't draw but it's almost the same and it saved me several times especially against aggressive decks (spamming Lightshower Elemental) -> Quest Warrior/Taunt Druid/Whatever Shaman
I was considering adding Malygos, but I'm still testing Taelan, and for now it's excellent against aggro decks plus draw N'Zoth or any other big minion.
Finally, I kept Draconic Studies (for fun) and removed Pearltusk because it's not fun. At the moment I am 8/4 and having a lot of fun, but I still need to test more including Malygos.
Edit: I typed in Ysera SEVERAL TIMES, but I meant Malygos.
I'm giving some changes with Raise dead a try! Thanks a ton for your imput!
Love this deck, well done!
Thank you!
trash....Even if you play agaist aggro or control aka warrior this deck sucks. I don't care about the downvotes. Feel free to do so. <3
I have to agree, I am losing hard with this deck.. even with Vanndar on 3.. Face Hunter, Pirate Warrior, Quest Warlock, seems that Control IS still dead..
Never said it was an easy deck, you will lose a LOT if you don't mull right or hold the right cards.
