Hello Everyone,
Welcome back to my periodic take on control shaman. I believe most Shaman decks have become stale and somewhat un-interactive. Well lets give this control Shaman another try and see where we land.
As with my older version, we have some changes and additions that seem to be working and proving useful:
Bolner Hammerbeak - really random Shaman card that doesn't really have a place in today's meta. I play it on 2 and retrieve some resources from the opponent as they panic to deal 4 on turn 2 or 3. Bolner's effect works well with our discovery minions such as: Pandaren Importer , Venomous Scorpid , and obviously Instructor Fireheart
Flightmaster Dungar for situational effects that can help finish or survive an enemy.
Lastly, we keep Kazakus, Golem Shaper , Al'Akir the Windlord , and Ysera the Dreamer for finishers and other situations.
Majority of my hearthstone career has been played on Control Shaman decks, take your success or failure with a grain of salt. I have been doing well for now, but may change soon with nerfs/changes.
Enjoy and let me know of your adventures :)
P.S. in a slow board state, try utilizing Bolner Hammerbeak + Flightmaster Dungar damage or minion summon. It protects your Bolner by also putting him in Dormant!
I love control decks, and Quest Sham is ma favourite quest, so definitely gonna try. Just one question. Bolner is more or less a sacrifice card? Like, if I got him on hand at start, should I sacrifice him at turn 2?
I wouldn't say its that simple. He is certainly a great 2 drop on turn 2 (especially if you are going first). However, I would pay attention to your hand and make sure you can follow up with a 3 drop battlecry on the following turn should it survive. If you have other plays, Bolner seems to be best on turn 4/5 when paired with another battlecry card!
Bolner is niche and does not serve a great purpose outside of value for other cards.
So technically if I start and for example I got Fireheart, Scorpid, Pandaren it's worth try it and hoping Bolner won't get killed at turn 2. But still it's better than keeping him for no one knows what super combo in mid or late game.
I lost my first game to combo rogue this season because of this deck.
Still fun though.
Yea its kill potential is a little slow. It is meant to try and get you to the late game, but the META right now is about winning by turn 6-8. Maybe with some nerfs, this could become an interesting take.
I mostly use it to break up the mindless aggro shaman games.
Putting Bolner in a dormant state with Dungar is actually genius.
Having him back and active on board once you have more mana to spend could be pretty awesome.
Thanks for sharing your ideas. :)
Is that how this functions?
Yes! Pretty neat. Unfortunately, once he is dormant, his passive goes away until he returns. But, just as Pherosizm says, he will come back on the start of your turn and be eligible to double your next battlecries!
