Hi guys, quest shaman is by far the most fun deck I've played this expansion. Just like with druid these days, there are a lot of ways you can build the deck. Most people think quest shaman is just OKAY. But I'm here to prove that it's one of the best decks in the game right now, you just have to build it correctly and remove all the "okayish" cards and add all the good ones! I believe I have managed to build the best version of the deck, or at least very close to it. I currently have 64 % winrate with quest shaman and I will keep climbing with it in legend as much as I can!
GENERAL GAMEPLAN
The trick with this deck is to use the first step of the quest with as many overloaded crystals as possible. The best way to do this is to overload yourself on turn 3 with serpentshrine portal or turn 4 with canal slogger, and then the next turn lightning bloom + doomhammer. After that you just keep playing minions and overload cards and try to kill them as fast as possible. If the game goes on eventually you will get Stormcaller Bru'kan and if the opponent doesn't kill you after you have played him you almost always have lethal the next turn. In most games you won't even play Stormcaller Bru'kan since you have either killed them or died at that point. But in slower matchups the card can be insane. Remember that the first step of the quest is the strongest, and you should utilize that part of the quest as much as you can.
MULLIGAN
Cards you always keep - Command the elements (obviously), Cagematch Custodian, Wandmaker, Entrapped sorceress, Primal dungeoneer.
Cards you sometimes keep - Lightning bloom, Serpentshrine portal, Doomhammer.
Against heavy minion classes like Shaman, Hunter and Paladin, you can keep serpentshrine portal.
Against Non-minion heavy classes like warlock, demonhunter, druid and mage, you can keep Doomhammer if you don't have Cagematch Custodian and lightning bloom if you have one of them.
CHOICE OF CARDS
Overdraft - In the early game you can use it as a 1 mana draw. And in the late game you can use it to get insane turns. Not the best card in this deck but still good.
Wandmaker - You need 2 drops in this deck and this is the best one. Shaman has tons of good 1 mana spells right now which makes wandmaker really good.
Entrapped Sorceress - Actually works really well with this deck, you can discover more overload cards while building up a board. Way better than marshspawn since you don't really play spells in the early game and you want primal dungeoneer to draw canal slogger.
Landslide - I used to run two of this card, although there is just not enough minion heavy decks out there right now to run two of them.
BAD CARDS PEOPLE ARE PLAYING WITH
Novice Zapper - Just a bad card in general, it messes up your early turns, you don't need to overload yourself quickly with this deck and you are also not very minion heavy. You don't want early minions in this deck.
Perpetual Flame - Bad in this meta since there are not a lot of minion heavy decks, and doesn't work with primal dungeoneer.
Primordial Studies - One of the worst cards you can run in this deck. Once again doesn't work with primal dungeoneer, and you don't want spell damage with this deck. Against slower decks you win with the double spell aura from Stormcaller Bru'kan, not with spell damage.
Charged call - This is a bait, I used to have this in my deck but it's really just a winmore type of card. When you get this in the early turns you just wanna cry. You can discover this card instead or get it from guidance in the late game, which is really good though!
Feral Spirit - Doesn't work with primal dungeoneer, it's not flexible like entrapped sorceress and you don't need more 3 drops in this deck.
Rockbiter Weapon - It's only good with doomhammer, but you already have stormstrike for that. Stormstrike is just more flexible in the early turns.
That's the end of my little guide to this deck, ask any questions if you have any, and I'll try to answer them :) You can follow my twitch where I might stream the deck later today or tomorrow if people want to see it in action! twitch.tv/laxennnn
Concept is very nice. Very good job keeping it synergized, however the deck is outdated, so for these who need to climb fast with quest shaman in general, some advices for current meta:
PLD and Hunter say thanks for using this deck.
it is always an INDIVIDUAL thing because any player can go very long periods not facing certain decks and then claim this WORKS GREAT !!.
Then when you hit a spell playing Hunter and Pld every other game your losing game after game.
How you build quest SHMN always depends on what you seem to be facing the most of.
One thing i will note is that versus stuff like Mage you can just sit and wait for the weapon and nearly auto win however ice barrier does thwart a possible 16 damage.Albeit a LOT less Mages after the nerf, like i only see maybe 1 every 20 games.Of late i see a lot of Hunter and PLD and PLD is just ridiculous when every one of them seem to get 2x Bannerman into 2x weapon.PLD also has several DS taunts so you'll need some luck to get through.
Just saying this deck is playing really well AFTER the recent balance changes (less paladin and hunter around so doomhammer is feeling better now). Curious if the OP is still playing with this deck w/ any changes? Thanks!
Nice deck but heavily countered by hunter
Have tried a slight adaptation with Al’akir, nice backup/surprise if doomhammers fail or if you need a few more hits to win
It might help you, I agree, but only if you manage to play it before turn 8 with Lightning Bloom. Otherwise it's too slow for most of the matchups. This is a tempo deck, 8 drops don't fit here all that much. It also breaks synergy with drawing more important cards, such as Doomhammer (in two turns) and Canal Slogger which might be life saving.
Nice!
Good guide. I'll definitely try this one.
Took me to Platinum 5 fairly easy. Struggling a bit now.
