THIS DECK HAS BEEN NERFED!
The Light Dims, but We Fight!
As of Season 86, combo decks are running rampant in the Wild format. This month, June, I hit LEGEND with this Death and Taxes Paladin deck. I went 22-6, for a roughly 79% winrate. I thought about how we could derail these decks as much as possible without harming our own strategy along the way. This led to this deck's creation, where yes, Mana Wraith got me some wins.
My Match-up Stats:
Demon Hunter: 2-0
Druid: 2-0
Hunter: 2-0
Mage: 5-1
Paladin: 0-1
Priest: 0-1
Rogue: 2-0
Shaman: 3-2
Warlock: 6-1
Warrior: N/A
Overall Game Plan
Death and Taxes is a deck that aims to establish a board whilst making cards more difficult to play for our opponents through our number of disruptive minions as well as our Secret cards. We do all this while building a board that is hard to deal with or fight off. This deck is more effective against slower combo decks, but can go toe to toe with other fast aggro decks as well.
Mulligans
Generally, we want Nerub'ar Weblord, Shielded Minibot, Sword of the Fallen, Righteous Protector, and a single Knife Juggler or a single Call to Arms. Going second, on The Coin, Far Watch Post and Call to Arms are far better keeps.
Specific Mulligans
Against other board-based decks, I kept a single Hand of A'dal if I could afford to.
Against Mage and Warlock, I always kept Nerub'ar Weblord, Far Watch Post, and Mana Wraith. These cards help keep the aggressive variants of these decks off the board, and the combo decks from doing their plan early on if possible.
Against Demon Hunter and Hunter I recommend keeping a single Seedcloud Buckler if possible.
I kept Oh My Yogg! against Druids, Mages, and Warlocks. This will help disrupt them and their game plans throughout the early turns of the game.
Card Substitutions
- Judgment of Justice may be swapped out for Avenge or Never Surrender!.
- Blessing of Kings may be swapped out for Seal of Champions.
The Aggressive Part of the Deck
Since a lot of our cards halt a lot of our opponents' progress, we can utilize buffs like Blessing of Kings and Hand of A'dal and Conviction (Rank 1) to swing back harder than our opponent. We also have two copies of Knife Juggler to deal chip damage as they will not be killed as often as you might think when we have our taxing minions on board. Our weapons can also push some minor damage along the way.
I appreciate this decklist being available, because I started playing tax paladin on about June 1st.
I'm in diamond 3, and I have been getting about 50% winrate over 40 games. So I'm not climbing or falling. (which is partially due to not piloting it correctly)
Right now I'm experimenting with taking out one seedcloud and the shieldbot and adding another conviction and one divine favor
Oh, ok! Let me know what you think friend.
After I changed the two cards out, I went 12-2 from diamond 3 or 4 to legend.
I was playing other taxes decks but I wouldn't have thought to add in the mana wraith.
I think the second conviction helps get lethal earlier, although the single seedcloud buckler I had in my run definitely came in handy a few times.

The font is accidentally very small on this comment, I will try and fix it
Anyway, thanks for helping me on my first time legend!
Edit: now im 19 wins 3 losses
That's awesome! I'm glad to hear it. Congrats homie.
This got me from Bronze all the way from rank D 3 in just a few hours. Going to legend thanks bro!
Oh cool! I'm glad to hear it.
Looks similar to what I was using. I like how you included the new weapon. How has it worked for you? Also, have you felt any need for Bad Luck Albatross?
Hello friend!
The new weapon, Seedcloud Buckler, has proven to be very good when creating a board over time, as it can line up its Deathrattle effect with turns we establish more minions.
Personally, I didn't run into many Reno/Highlander decks on my climb, so I personally would not include Bad Luck Albatross. If you want, however, I'd swap in one copy of it for Rally!.
If I may state the obvious, you can destroy seedcloud prematurely with a 2nd weapon if you really really need the instant divine shield on minions
