I pretty much walked to Legend with this one so try it out before everyone is doing it (or they nerf Paladin again - not that the last set of nerfs did much)
I made a deck guide discussing the strategies, combos, mulligans and win conditions as well as my overall verdict for the deck
Enjoy
24-10 Atm. Really great and fun deck. The hardest matchup for sure is Warlock though.
nice Win rate! glad you like the list
How would you play around Warlocks? It seems hopeless when they burn cards like Murgurgle prime and N'zoth if I've drawn them late. I'm even considering crafting the disgusting warlock deck lmao, it seems so strong.
Keep N`zoth in starting hand plus play dragontamer as soon as you get it. Oh my yogg is doing it`s job great in the very beggining of the game against locks. dragontamer and scorpid should be played as soon as you get them, one for dragon and the other for extra yogg if you get it :)
Okay, thank you! Actually really helpful, hadn't thought of it like that :D. Trying to reach Legend for the first time ever. It's starting to look possible (I'm plat 8 now), and the last time I played Mech Mage was meta, so I'm a bit out of practice.
I`m stuck at plat 5, but i`m ok with it, for now. Can`t expect more in 2 hours of hs/day :)) Good luck with getting legend! you can do it :D
You've got a week left to get Diamond, you can do it!
Took your advice and went for it, just got D10 in 40 minutes of play :) D5 here I come :D
NICE! D5 (Dad Legend) is inevitable
Very good deck. Went 4-1 with it. The loss was against another paladin running the same archetype. They got all their mid game cards, while I was stuck with 1-3 costs, so very bad draw that game.
haha that's the problem with a good new deck, doesn't stay secret for long
I've been trying to get to Legend in Standard since I started playing in 2014. It has been extremely difficult for me.. I always ended ~6-7 wins from Legend no matter what. =(
BUT! A slightly modified version of this deck got me from D4-Legend last night.. finally! I initially made a bunch of modifications (swapped 6 cards), but was having trouble running out of gas.. so I went back to the root and made 1 simple change that pushed me from D2 (where I stalled) to Legend with little effort.
My modifications:
-1 Galloping Savior
+1 Taelan Fordring
This ensures that I can get the big 3 in my hand before Warlock burns, or make sure that I can pull hammer or gryphons when I already have the other component + the big 3.
Also, to anyone trying this out: Do your best to get both Carousel Gryphons in your hand before using Hammer to corrupt them both with one drop, and follow up the next turn with 1 (or 2x) of them. I had a few people auto-concede right there because I guess that Paladins usually use Hammer as a last resort, when they're trying to get to their win condition or don't have anything else big to play other than said win condition. They don't expect it to be a thing used as a middle-of-the-match option with 2 followup Gryphons back to back into Dragons into N'zoth rezzing everything. It's just too much for most players to handle.
Something else I found amusing is that limiting the Holy spells to just Hand and Reckoning made me pull Reckoning early a lot. At first I found this really annoying, because I was so used to using it later in favor of Yogg + Savior (to proc Northwatch Commander) until I realized how much of a hard counter it is to early Face Hunter and early Paladin.. So I started using it early in Aggro matches and/or to proc Northwatch instead and it just murders the tempo of those decks. It's nuts. I had a Face Hunter concede on Turn 3 when his Felmaw popped, hit my 1/1 and got immediately yeeted off the board. XD
Thanks, Infamous!! This deck SLAPS.
I also wanted to followup and say that pulling Snack Run off of Venomous Scorpid got me some really crazy results - I guess that the pools of spells available for those are slightly different, so the range of spells offered was a little more broad. This allowed for me to surgically shift my focus from Control to Aggro or alter the tempo of the game quickly on a whim. It's a neat interaction.
awesome news! Well done!
Paladin was also my first class to get legend and will always remember that deck
Nice substitution idea - good to have more options for carousel corruption too.
Murgur is the only card i don't have, is there any good sub for it?
murgur features in a ton of paladin decks and still has a full year of play till it rotates so consider getting the dust for him.
Otherwise you could look to swap for something like crabrider or goody two shields. - obviously not AS good, but would be sticky enough to play the same role as early game Murgur
Ugh, the deck feels so...beautiful :))). I mean, I only played 3 games (3 wins) and the only Pala deck where you actually have fun. I removed Redscale Dragontamer so it won't affect the murloc rez pool and added 2x Death's Head Cultist. The quilboar gives you extra protection and will be rez'd by N'zoth. Also added 2x Claw Machine instead of the Gryphon.
Glad you like it, I've also made a few tweaks since I made this video - will definitely share once I've done a bit more testing
nice substitutions - I might try them out myself
I use Claw machine instead of Carousel Gryphon
interesting sub, definitely more tempo and makes nzoth turn less slow
