Hello Everyone
My Name is Seldu and I play mainly wild Hearthstone. You can catch my stream on Twitch:
Ever since the day Reno Jackson got released back in the League of Explorers expansion, I seized the opportunity to combine my two favourite themes in Hearthstone, namely Value decks and amazing Hunter cards like Deathstalker Rexxar.
This is my first entry, as it finally feels like the deck has a fair matchup against most decks. I hope you enjoy playing the heck out of Reno Hunter too!
Guide:
This is a Midrange to late game Deck, your win-cons depend on the Matchup but as a rule of thumb, you just want to survive against aggro decks with cards like Reno Jackson, Zilliax, Mad Scientist, Candleshot, Rinling's Rifle, Dreadscale and Deathstalker Rexxar, then you'll win by value and you want to pressure down control decks with cards like Mad Scientist, Bad Luck Albatross, Dragonbane, Loatheb and Dinotamer Brann as they often have to use high value cards for lower value plays than they'd like to.
Generally speaking there are two enormous combos in this deck that you should keep in mind: Mankrik into Barak Kodobane (for a possible turn five "6/12" that deals 3 damage to the opponent and draws you three cards) and Dreadscale into Serpentbloom (for a 3-mana full boardclear that leaves you with a 4/2 poisonous beast which keeps on clearing the board)!
Brann Bronzebeard into Dirty Rat can be a big play against decks that rely on certain minions. Brann Bronzebeard into Stitched Tracker can gain you an insane amount of extra Value, you can get up to two extra copies of Zephrys the Great. Brann Bronzebeard into Dinotamer Brann can be a 16 damage finisher.
Mulligan and Matchups:
In the general Mulligan I'd advise to try to find a 1-drop (Tracking is fine too) and a 2-drop. There are enough 3-cost cards that you can expect one on turn three almost every game.
Against Priest keep big midrange hitters like Mankrik and Dragonbane as they can ramp up a lot of pressure. Zephrys the Great is great and we know that, wait until you know what type of Priest your opponent is playing, so you can either use Zephrys for tempo or to get Hex. Selective Breeder can find a copy of Bad Luck Albatross.
Against Mage Flare is obviously always strong, as you'll either be able to slow down Secret Mage or push for an unexpected lethal by removing Ice Block. Keep in mind that Zephrys the Great can also give you a second Flare. Right now most mages play some sort of secret mage, either with or without Reno Jackson. You can deal with their midrange threats with Venomstrike Bow or Dreadscale into Serpentbloom. Loatheb, Dirty Rat and sometimes Mutanus the Devourer are all great cards to win against APM Mages. Also Mystery Winner and Rinling's Rifle have the potential to give you invaluable secrets like Pressure Plate and Snipe for this matchup.
Against Warlock you'll see a variety of decks (let's see how the meta looks after the ban). Darkglare Warlock can be defeated by either clearing all the posed giants with cards like Zephrys the Great, Venomstrike Bow and Serpentbloom or they put themselves to such low health that you can kill them with face damage. Against Reno-Lock you can deactivate their highlander cards with Bad Luck Albatross and generally play as pressuring as possible. Here Mutanus the Devourer will be very effective as you don't have to be scared of pulling big Demons.
Swaps:
The Key cards that should not be touched are Tracking, Zephrys the Great, Brann Bronzebeard, Stitched Tracker, Barak Kodobane, Loatheb, Deathstalker Rexxar, Reno Jackson and Dinotamer Brann.
If the meta is dominated by aggro, swap Mutanus the Devourer with Explosive Trap and Archdruid Naralex with Powershot. Also weapons like Candleshot and Trueaim Crescent go a long way in neutralizing aggro.
If you need more taunt and draw Taelan Fordring is a good pick too.
Hunter's Mark can be a great 1-cost spell addition.
Let me know if you enjoyed this guide of mine! I hope you have a ton of fun playing Reno-Hunter and I wish you all the best. Cheers!
I was looking for a hunter deck to play in wild and have some fun.
I'll craft Dinotamer Brann and test it.
Thank you man!
You're welcome :)
Including Sylvanas is an interesting decision. Recently i've came up with a slightly similiar deck. The key cards which are not not included in your deck is Armor Vendor + Mistress of Mixtures (first one restores 8 if used w brann) - makes it much easier to survive the early game, Skulking Geist for dealing with pal secrets / APM mages and Horde Operative for stealing hypothetical Ice Block. It is going 50-45 for now, which is so-so.
Definetly gonna include some nice cards from your version. Deck's code below if needed

Thanks for the feedback! I really like the Wandthief in your deck, there are great spells you can get from it on the other hand maybe some 1-cost spells are just too useless. The double-sided effect of Armor Vendor and Mistress of Mixtures matters a lot in my eyes, so I don't include them.
Did you include any cards from the miniset?
almost half of the deck is orange wtf
No N'zoth as a good late game finisher? Or too slow vs aggro decks?
For quite some time I ran N'Zoth and two to three more deathrattle minions, but in the end it turned out it was too slow and only really useful in a control game.
Really expensive deck to craft because of all the legendaries, but a nice looking value deck regardless. Kudos for the well-written guide too.
Thanks and yeah that reminds me of LPG-Mage, guess my taste in decks helps blizzard's pockets haha
