I was playing some mediocre decks and fell into dumpster ranks (around 4000), it was really frustrating getting fucked by mages so i decided to search for the best mage counter and i found this hunter deck on HSReplay. I think this is the most optimal list, i wouldn't change a single card. It's amazing against mage (18-6) and paladin (11-4), after the nerfs there should be more warlocks around and this deck seems good against them aswell (5-0), the worst matchup is priest (0-4) and the games weren't close, priests absolutely obliterate this deck.
Update: just played 10 more games and won every single one, the deck is extremely consistent, not sure why we don't see more hunters on ladder.
Mulligan: always keep Intrepid Initiate, Imprisoned Felmaw, Adorable Infestation, Wolpertinger and Demon Companion. Scavenger's Ingenuity is a very good card and i usually keep it but if i'm playing against mage without coin and i don't have a 1 drop i would skip it, it's crucial to put pressure from turn 1. Sometimes i would keep Headhunter's Hatchet (if i have Wolpertinger+another 1 drop). Sometimes i keep Rinling's Rifle (if i am playing against paladin/rogue and already have a good opener). Also sometimes i keep Tour Guide and Wound Prey (if i have Adorable Infestation or to activate Intrepid Initiate effect). Never keep Quick Shot, Tracking and remaining cards which are not in the list above.
Some tips: against mage always keep in mind secrets they might play next turn and try to create a perfect situation where neither Ice Barrier or Counterspell will prevent lethal (for example you might want to save Tracking if you have 1-1 and Piercing Shot in hand to play around Counterspell), same goes for Oh My Yogg!. Also sometimes you should hold on to your spells to play around Netherwind Portal (they have a lot of burst damage and an early 4 drop might connect few times to face and mage will race you faster because of it) or if you have two 1-1s you might want to play around Ice Barrier and not attack face (assuming you put opponent's health low enough already) and usually i don't play Trampling Rhino on the empty board, i would rather play 1 drop and press extra hero power. Of course these tips are situational and you shouldn't always play like that, take your time, analyse your hand and play according to what you have. Have fun!
Welcome to the No-Fun-Zone. Winning almost all matches except against Demon Hunters, Warriors, and sometimes Control Mages. It's sad that you have to abandon fun from game to actually win RIP
played this to legend yesterday while watching a movie and went like 14-1 or 14-2 (i dont rememebr exact w/l. played a few after hitting legend)
really consistant deck. basically only lost a mirror (againt exact same deck and due to going 2nd)
didnt play a single priest but based on the games i did play and OP's post, seems unwinnable.
mage is an almost unlosable matchup and i somehow beat control warrior too with a pretty bad start (no turn 1 play)
Well, because of Warlocks and Tickatus, I can't enjoy playing control so I have to play this deck so we both can't have fun. How fun!
1 hour and 18 games later...
72% winrate and 0% fun had. I barely dedicate time to think for the next play. I just dump my hand and win. I faced 5 Warlock players that would have meant 5 auto losses with Control Priest. But thanks to this deck, neither me nor the Warlock players had much fun.
I faced a couple of other Hunter players with decks almost similar to this and they just spammed emotes right from the start of the game to the finish. I kept wondering how can someone have superiority complex when they didn't even create the deck they are playing.
Why Blizzard keep rewarding decks that require zero thought process and incentives you to dump your hand as you draw cards while keep punishing decks that do require thought process and holding cards for optimal play? I just want to play Control Priest man...
It's much like every other Hunter deck atm, and Viper did not come up with it originally
Just went 10-1 (D10 to D5).
Only deck that beat me was a DH that pulled three lifesteal eye beams and then with 4hp left dealt 26 points of lifesteal face damage from two attacks over two turns at turn 6/7.
Dear god this deck is overpowered.
I feel dirty just using it ><
amazing deck i dont understand the comment section ... perhaps u dont know how to play face haah :) went from p3 to d5 :)
cheers
Achievements let me know that I'm on a roll and that I've won ten games in a row with this deck. That's crazy OP and shouldn't happen. (at mid platinum)
Yeah, finally my first legend with 63% winrate. I had to change a view things to go past diamond 2. Like I said in my previous comment the deck lacked a finisher and that's where Mankrik and Barak Kodobane came to the rescue!
Thx pastaS!
PS. Don't know why but either deck codes are not working or I'm doing something wrong.
Congrats on your first legend! Good call on adding Kolkar Pack Runner, Mankrik and Barak Kodobane, in the post-nerf meta mage popularity significantly decreased so board presence is valuable again since it won’t be cleared with cheap spells anymore, i think the decklist i posted is still good enough but your version is better!
What did you swap them out with?
Edit: nvm i figured it out. Thank you!
Cheers @Razmus! Came back for my first expansion from Witchwood and decided to give this deck a go after running a Mage and Warlock for a bit. I've had absolutely huge gains on the standard ladder. Managed to climb from Gold 10 to Diamond 4 so far in the course of a week!
Kolkar Pack Runner has been huge in clearing other early game matches like Paladin, Hunter, and Rogue. The combo of autosummoning Mankrik's enraged version if you play Barak Kodobane is really nice as well. Even then, Barak himself is absolutely huge when it comes to generating card draw. I've had an extremely high winrate over other hunters who tend to stall out without it in their decks.
Edit: So far I've made it to Diamond 1 a few times now, but still yet to crack legend!
I love face decks.. Shaman/murloc got me before turn 4 :(
currently 0-3
Copied this deck and tried it and my first 2 matches were mirrors xD
this deck is trash
ur mum is trash
sorry but I'm not like this deck
I never have a great track record with anything remotely face... I'm just not lucky enough for this deck i guess. It only really shits on warlocks, anything else is 50/50 at the absolute best, paladins/warriors/priests are insta loss. Just wanted to climb a bit quicker but back to control for me i guess...
