BARRENS COMBO ROGUE
Rationale & General Play
So glad that there's been interest in my combo Rogue list!
4/15 POST-NERF UPDATE: The Pen Flinger nerf really hurt the extra reach that helped the deck finish matches. I think pure miracle like this is going to see a hit, especially with the Jandice nerf on top of it. I don't really think Rogue deserved to get hit more than Paladin and Mage :(
I don't plan to update this list further but I think the core miracle cards will still have a place in Rogue, but we'll need new ways to push damage, right now in the form of Tenwu of the Red Smoke + Alexstrasza the Life-Binder or through cards like Oil Rig Ambusher. Some other package is going to have to come in, and I've been enjoying a Secret-Miracle hybrid list recently.
Good luck out there!! If I develop a new tempo list I will be sure to post it.
Current Rogue Package Options: Secrets, Combo/Miracle, Stealth, Weapon, Value, Watch Tower
Rogue is very much in a mix and match state where you could combine two packages and experiment with the results. This deck is majority Miracle Rogue with some Tempo/Value/Shuffle inclusions. I built this list on Day 1 and have modified it each day until I settled on this list for now.
Our goal here is to pop off with draw, during which we create tempo, clear the opponents board, and maintain a healthy hand size. Field Contact is our cheaper, better Gadgetzan Auctioneer, allowing us to draw multiple cards in one turn. Discounts from Efficient Octo-bot allow more cards to be played, leading to more cycling. Ticket Master & Mankrik synergize with miracle, providing extra board pressure. Kazakus, Golem Shaper and Jandice Barov are critical tempo cards, with Jandice being the prime target for Shadowstep. Wicked Stab (Rank 1) is really a non-combo Eviscerate or 2-mana Fireball- these combined with stolen/discovered damage cards are the primary finishers.
When I was first introduced to Rogue 4 years or so ago, I was told it was a finesse class. The deck is not as simple to pilot as a standard tempo or aggro deck, but is so fun once you get the hang of it! Please don't let the current abysmal win percentage on HSReplay deter you- I've played for hours today and am at a 69% WR. Props to Reinan23 for his Rogue expertise and I'd like to credit JAlexander for this newest list.

DRAW & CYCLE SYNERGIES
Secret Passage is great for a sticky turn where nothing looks good. Try to clear out as much as you can to thin your deck so you can draw into your Field Contact and Swindle. Opponents are terrified of Field Contact because of the massive draw you can get off of him. A good target for Shadowstep if you want to continue the draw train next turn or it will surely be killed. If you don't get at least 3 cards drawn off contact, it's not being used well. There are many cheap battlecry and combo cards to enable field contact, especially after a cost reduction from Efficient Octo-bot. Be careful about your order for Pen Flinger and consider hand size so you don't overdraw!
On these field contact turns, your board and hand can easily fill up- you may need to Backstab or Prize Plunderer your own minions to make more room.
Ticket Master is a new addition. You should be able to get a nice board of cute Plush Bears and threaten with more board presence. I love the bears so I'm happy to add this in, even though there is anti-synergy with Secret Passage with this and Mankrik. Mankrik was originally removed but makes for a good replacement for Scabbs that also has cycle synergy. 3/10 is pretty fat and can put in some work.
COMBO FOR REMOVAL
Backstab is not a popular choice right now, but I thought it was important to maintain another 0-cost activator in the event that Efficient Octo-bot hasn't discounted the 1-cost cards. In reviewing replays, having Backstab was more helpful than some other choices. Please see the substitutions for alternatives. With so much draw, sometimes it's also good to be able to throw it out to thin the deck off of Secret Passage if necessary, but it almost always finds an enemy to strike, activating your combos.
Brain Freeze is great for removing mid sized minions or freezing something scary until you can deal with it. Ending a cycling turn with Prize Plunderer can take down large minions, especially with Shadowstep.
COMBO FOR DISCOUNTS/VALUE
Octo-bot is an ideal Turn 2 play that can be self-proc'ed by using Backstab or Pen Flinger on it if necessary, but most classes can't deal 4 damage on T2 and would rather proc it before you draw again. At best, you get a discounted hand for later combos and early tempo. At worst, your opponent has to go out of their way and waste resources to deal 4 damage. Less effective when played in the mid-late game unless you proc it yourself.
Wand Thief and Vanessa VanCleef do a great job of finding extra damage or the tools you need to get through another turn if you're not drawing the way you'd hoped. Swipe some damage or a strong minion from your opponent- nobody is playing around Vanessa right now, plus she is just COOL!
TEMPO PLAYS, UTILITY, & FINISHERS
The first two cards I put in the deck when building were Jandice and Shadowstep because they are OP good together. Jandice's 5-drop pool is small and good. The worst thing you can get is still Blood Herald but there are so many more great 5 drops. Abusing Jandice-Shadowstep often leads to a win. There are several other good targets if you can't combo these together, but this is the best.
Kazakus is just an all-star card. The Golems provide incredible, flexible tempo, especially with Gromsblood (duplicate). On curve Kazakus into Greater Golem is what we want.
Cult Neophyte is a new addition to tech against Mage or stymie spells, potentially giving us the advantage we need to push damage.
Not much to say about Wicked Stab- it's a better Eviscerate. If you end up going to Turn 10, it's an insane amount of unconditional face damage. Combine these with Pen Flinger pings to deal the damage you need to face or minions. Note: I really hate this card, I think it's toxic, but the damage from SI:7 Agent wasn't getting us there.
Mulligan
ALWAYS KEEP: Kazakus, Golem-Shaper, Mankrik, Ticket Master, Efficient Octo-bot, Swindle. Wand Thief and Cult Neophyte not bad keeps in most matches
SOMETIMES KEEP: Backstab, Brain Freeze (vs. aggro)
Field Contact, Jandice, Cult Neophyte (vs. control)
Substitutions
Backstab > Guardian Augmerchant
Mankrik or Vanessa > Tenwu of the Red Smoke
Ticket Master > Far Watch Post for more delay
NOVAThor1905 suggested using Alexstrasza the Life-Binder with Tenwu as a wombo combo for damage or healing- suggest you try it!
REPLAYS
Please feel free to make further suggestions for change & feedback on missed substitutions, if a variation is working much better than this, etc! I hope this guide helps you pilot the deck better!
Thanks friend. Looks like you were right about Foxy being cuttable. I do like the card though if Mage gets nerfed I might put them back in instead of the Neophytes.
hi, i played alot of games against mages druids rouges and paladins. my winrate score is over %62.
my last version is;

-octo bot red smoke and shadowstep for alexstrasza good combos. one turn sometimes 24 damage good finisher.
- dirty tricks or plagrize if i have shadosjeweler my hand many possibilty useful position for me, if i havent sahadowjeweler dirty tirck and plagrize give 2 or cards.
- red smoke create pressure with jandie barov and kazakus.
i dont like mankrik in deck because i see his wife 5 or 6 times in over 30 games but i realy dont find card instead of mankrik. my suggestion is 2 cards akama or cloak of shadows. i wonder ur suggestion. have a good day.
Hi I'm so glad you made the list your own here- it looks very interesting! I think you're on to something with Alexstrasza as additional burst or heal. Seems like a cool idea and a lot of the time I find I'm using 1 of my Stabs for removal. I think it's not a bad idea it's just very expensive, but works right now because we have pen flingers that are likely to be nerfed next week along with Jandice. I could see a change where I remove the ticket masters for tenwu and alex. I'll add this to my subs to people can see the suggestion.
Vanessa and Tenwu have their places, for sure. Tenwu is probably a better option because it has bigger targets but I love Vanessa so I'm probably going to leave her. Last match she gave me lethal with 2x fireball from a mage. You've taken out the Ticket Masters, Backstabs, Cultists, Swindles for a secret package. I faced a deck similar to this and lost yesterday- it's a cool secret miracle mash-up!
Mankrik is pretty solid I feel. The 3/10 body when it does happen is really sticky. My list has more combo/battlecry cards to better enable the cycle into bears and the wife, so for your list maybe you could throw in a Far Watch Tower or the 3-mana one to derail your opponent more, though that is likely a nerf target too so enjoy it this week while you can! I do really like the Cultist right now against mage and paladin, though.
i think u played venassa and shadowstep and again venassa for 2 fireball. am i correct? its sounds good. i cannot provide benefit when i was play venasasa. but i ll give a change again instead of mankirk.
if i cannot achieve to play venassa :(( . i will try to play akama, cloak of shadows, self sharpining swords.
tahnk u very much for ur sugggessions and ur attention. have nice games..
Really like this deck, but i got one problem... i think SI:7 Agent it's a little bit too slow. Never played it only with Scabbs Cutterbutter. Mankrik seems pretty fun for a free card and i think it's better bcs of Shadowstep.
Really happy with the deck. WP!
Glad you're doing well! SI:7 Agent is just a classic tempo card. It's not really essential but imo goes well with foxy fraud to swing an early board. I originally had Mankrik in the list and you know, he's fun, but I just didn't feel like it was that impactful unless Olgra is found pretty fast. I'd rather use my shadowstep on Jandice, Scabbs, Foxy, Contact, or even Wand Thief.
But feel free to take out the agents for a krik and something else, maybe in the same 3-mana slot. I'm trying this list today and will update tonight or tomorrow, then might try with pen flingers and/or other possible subs.
What’s your opinion on cutting Scabbs? Just because he makes Kazakus not work until he’s drawn plus needing activation for his combo? It’s only a 7 mana play if you coin, backstab, or prep into him.
I think he's more cuttable than I originally thought. The fact that it's a miracle deck makes me think that more often than not we should be able to draw scabbs/activate kazakus. Activating Scabbs isn't usually a problem but it does affect kazakus if he's drawn before scabbs. I've done some fairly gross stuff with Scabbs, though. Maybe it's too greedy right now to try to run them both, but I can't test it until later this afternoon/evening. Definitely don't have to use scabbs for kazakus but it's a cool combo if possible.
Alright I'm going to try it without Scabbs and see how it goes.
I've been playing with a similar build since yesterday, but with a few changes - mainly, I don't have 2x Backstab, but instead have 2x Pen Flinger in their place to either activate Efficient Octo-bot, ping enemies, or activate Field Contact. Glad to see someone else is finding similar synergy. :)
+1 for you!
Hi thanks for the feedback. I can definitely see the usefulness of pen flinger in that way. I think that's definitely a more consistent way to proc frenzy. It's a tough call you know backstab is such a rogue mainstay and is an important 0 mana activator when octobot hasn't discounted anything. Do you have any replays you could share with your pen flinger list? I'd like to see it in action. I'm testing the current list today to see if kazakus/freeze are worth it, then I'd definitely think about adding flingers.
edit: I just wanted to say that I just dislike pen flinger because its an annoying card lol but will still consider adding it
No prob!
You are indeed correct, and you could argue that Backstab is more efficient than Pen Flinger because it can also activate Efficient Octo-bot, Combos, and pings for 2HP instead of 1 - but it doesn't synergize with Field Contact, which is why I opted for Pen Flinger in its place. I agree that it is an obnoxious card, especially the sound effect and how long the animation takes to play out (ugh).
I'm currently at D5 and having variable/not much success, mainly because I don't have Kazakus, Golem Shaper - which seems to be the real crux for most of the current Rogue meta decks. :( While I could show you some replays of Pen Flinger working wonders with Field Contact / Octobot / Shadowstep, it's ultimately useless because, without Kezakus, I can't get the big damage out on the board to finish the game. I've lost 4-5 times with opponents at 2-5HP today alone. =/
If the main reason for pen flinger is to go with Field Contact, I mean, there are so many other cards in the list that can make field contact go. We like keeping backstab in mulligans too so that may lower the chance of drawing it off contact later.
I just this morning changed over to the list with Kazakus and was seeing about 67% WR from my matches yesterday, so I think it's still very winnable without him. No denying the power there, though. It seems that my list and the Watch Tower list have a lot of similarity except mine is kind of all in on combo and more removal. I'm still interested in the replays- loss matches are often more informative than winning while deckbuilding.
Hi!
Hope your deck becomes part of the definitive meta. I like to play rogue in wild, but I m missing barov, scabbs and secret passage for standard. I'll definitely craft scabbs, but I really want to know how important is barov and passage. As I see, you're considering removing passage.
Hi thanks! I think Barov is really strong right now. It's an important tempo tool that can be used in multiple rogue decks. I'd probably craft her over scabbs if I could only have one but they are both important for the deck.
I experimented with passage out but sometimes really needed that little boost when I couldn't use field contact so I left them in. Could maybe get away with just 1. It's not essential but without it you may have tougher turns and need to make sure you utilize contact to the fullest.
unfortunately there is anti-synergy with Ticket Master and Secret Passage.
Been testing it out, because I want it to work lol but no bueno so far...
Hey thanks- I wouldn't want to play these together. I actually just updated saying I'm testing the deck without secret passage. I draw so much with Field Contact and Swindle that the passages actually aren't useful in some matches. If you really want to play Ticket Master take out the tomb pillagers for them and swap passage for brain freeze and let me know how it goes???
