AS OF 4/13/2021, THIS DECK IS TRASH. BLIZZARD RUINED WATCH POSTS. RIP.
-GENERAL PLAY-
Mulligan for Mystery Winner, Trueaim Crescent, Pack Tactics, Far Watch Post, and Mor'shan Watch Post. As a general rule, do not keep Tracking in your opener--your other 1 drops provide more early benefit.
Build a board with Watch Posts and prep for your big swing turns on turn 7 with Kargal Battlescar and turn 8 with Primordial Protector. Keeping a charge of Trueaim Crescent around for those turns is a good idea. This deck features a ton of the new barrens cards (literally half the deck) so it's been refreshing to play.
Main weakness of the deck is dealing with divine shield and bodies bigger than 5 health. Most notable weakness of the deck is Libram of Hope. Make sure you keep a Deadly Shot around for that.
-SYNERGIES-
Trueaim Crescent - a good tool in hunter for the build as you can preemptively set it up and enable your watch posts to attack with "rush" *You can attack their face first, then force another attack with Trueaim!*
Pack Tactics - cheap way to clone your watch towers and Taelan Fordring
Stoneskin Basilisk - Point and kill with Trueaim Crescent or clone early game with Pack Tactics to severely slow your opponent down. Even though it's 3 mana, due to it's poison bubble, it works well with our late game Guardian Animals
-UPDATES-
*Starting in April 2021*
4/3/21:
-2 Trampling Rhino - Overcosted form of removal, face damage not as relevant in this deck
-1 Petting Zoo - Don't have as much secret synergy or Crossroads Watch Post any more, so this has lost a lot of value (sad--I love this card)
+2 Stoneskin Basilisk - Protects your board/life total early game and kills bodies late game with Guardian Animals., Amazing synergy with Pack Tactics and Trueaim Crescent.
+1 Wound Prey - Helps with the divine shield weakness of the deck
Other decks by me:
TURBO C'THUN
I haven't tried this deck out yet, but they fixed mankirk. You can now draw the wife with Barak. It may be worth fitting it in by taking out a deadly shot. Maybe I am wrong though about its effectiveness in this deck.
Edit: played a few games with the deck. Went 5-2 with it. I faced four mages and I won them all. I faced one hunter and I won that and then I lost vs two paladins. It wasn't libram of hope or divine shields. It was that their early game and penflingers were just too strong. Mage feels very very winnable and it feels good. However, paladin seems pretty unwinnable to the point where it's probably 80/20. This is probably one of the decks where it can punish the mage a bit but due to secret paladin being the second strongest deck that has ever existed in the history of standard (day 1 demon hunter is the strongest), and that deck absolutely obliterates hunter, it's a bit of a tough ride up the ranks. Hopefully nerfs hit soon.
Great, Now i can finally play Hunter again :). Deathrattle didn't really do it for me and aggro, well, is aggro..
I didn't play a lot yet, (5-2 at D8), but do'nt you think King Krush is better then Kargal battlescar in this deck?
Edit: Yes Okay, Im starting to see Kargal's value.
Love this deck, mate. Cheers
Glad you're enjoying!
My fav deck of the new expansion so far! Deck power is very well balanced from early game to late game for sure.
Thank you! I've spent hours tweaking it, and had a little help on here as well. Hunter feels incredibly limited this expansion, so this was a tough but rewarding build.
I hate playing with aggro and love sylvanas, now i can use her with a happy smile, thanks :)
Glad you like it! I'm not a fan of aggro either, which leads me to make these creations haha
Hi, I've been playing a similar deck and I think a key card is Barak Kodobane . It can draw Tracking and Demon Companion, Deadly Shot and/or Petting Zoo, Tame Beast (Rank 1), and your secrets of choice.
I've experimented with cutting the Guardian Animals package all together to guarantee a 10 drop off of Primordial Protector and it frees you up to play some good smaller beast like Pack Kodo.
Now I've been with messing around with Showstopper which with Trueaim Crescent can immediately silence an enemy minion such as a buffed Paladin board, or enemy watch posts, but it can also be used to silence your own watch posts and allow them to attack, like old silence priest.
The Showstopper idea is really interesting. Let me know how that goes! I changed the list today to include Barak Kodobane and Kazakus, Golem Shaper. The Crossroads Watch Post would pop off occasionally, but I now feel it's better to support the cheaper 2 watch posts rather than slamming as many as possible.
Just wanted to chime in that I faced a slightly different version of this on ladder. It also included Trampling Rhino, Imprisoned Felmaw, Kindling Elemental, and Carrion Studies
It clobbered me pretty good so I had to search for it here and found yours. Cool deck archetype, probably still has some refining to do.
Edit: Played a bit. Took out Tracking and added in Deadly Shot. Mostly to deal with the big boy cards in Libram Paladin. My score is 18-10 with the deck so far.
Thanks for the response! I've currently 31-20 with the deck in high diamond. I think I'm about to make a few changes after looking at some other versions, so stay tuned!
Your comment made me think about Trampling Rhino more. I realized how much better it is as a standalone card compared to Lake Thresher and Moonfang, which required set up or needed an extra turn to attack. Some value on Guardian Animals is wasted, but the safety beats out the greed imo. I agree that your Deadly Shot is a must right now with so many paladins running around. Libram of Hope absolutely crushes this deck otherwise.
