Hey everyone, I'm Gatormatthew. I finish top 500 on NA every month, and I make educational Hearthstone content. Today's guide is on OTK Demon Hunter. This is probably the single most skill-testing deck in the metagame. There is a lot of DH hate out there, but this deck is the opposite of your typical DH deck. Lots of thinking to stall to the OTK. I went 6-1 with this deck to top 600 Legend. Below, I have a written guide where I discuss the deck as well as a YouTube video where I play a few games and commentate my plays, Enjoy!
For those of you who haven't seen this archetype before, the combo is pretty simple. Play Il'gynoth, a few Mo'arg Artificer, and Felscream Blast. The typical combo you will use vs most decks is 24 damage (Il'gynoth + Mo'arg Artificer x2 + Ethereal Augmerchant + Felscream Blast). Versus decks like Control Warrior, you can achieve even larger amounts of damage. The key is to discount your combo pieces with Skull of Gul'dan (typically done with Lorekeeper Polkelt) and then blast your opponent with more combo pieces. If you can discount a Mo'arg, you can look to Felosophy it for more 0 mana copies. The maximum damage I got versus a Control Warrior was 96.
Mulligan is completely matchup dependent. Lorekeeper Polkelt is the #1 card you want versus any deck that is remotely slow. I would even consider keeping the card versus fast matchups. The deck also has considerable anti-aggro duels such as Eye Beam and Immolation Aura. These cards are the main reason this deck beats Aggro DH 70% of the time.
Along with the written guide, I also have a video guide of games that I played on my way to Legend. I fully commentate my games and explain my thought process. If you want to see me play live on Twitch, I stream every weekend from 1pm-3pm EST and every Mon/Wed/Fri from 1:45pm-3:45pm EST. https://www.twitch.tv/gatormatthew_hs
Mulligan guide with only saying keeping Polkelt vs Control but not vs other popular meta decks? You even dont list down the damage we can get from some combo.
Not trying to offend but what kind of guide is this mate? It just about saying 24 damage combo which all ppl prob already know. Hope you can write down more about Mulligan and Combo.
Every additional Moarg doubles the damage of the combo. I'm not exactly sure what there is to say.
The written guide is supposed to be a quick guide, in the video I explain my plays in depth while playing at top 1000 legend. The goal is for the written guide to get some sort of a feel what is happening, and to see examples in the video.
Don't even bother. This deck is full piece of shit just like any other variants of Otk or DH Il'gynoth decks, I've tried. These just doesn't beat anything.
1-30. I should have stopped at 10 but I believed it was good deck just bad at piloting but no.
Slow asf fk too getting what you need in one turn. Oh give me a fkin break. Also, they nerfed Polkeit & Blade Dance mana cost. Fk this shit ain't worth was ting your time.
Well then you are playing it wrong mate. I am now about 10:7 with this deck and just learning. But as Viper the Pro Player says: This is one of the hardest decks to play correctly that he ever played in Hearthstone. So there is seldomly a game where I think I should not have drawn differently or gotten cards out of hand that were blocking my draw.
Regarding the mulligan guide I have to agree with the other comments - it is really kinda thin.
Just what I was looking for! Thank you.
I do not have the Spell Damage legendary - Bloodmage Thalnos. Any suggestions for a replacement?
