Hello everyone, Anomaly here bringing to you a Corrupted Demonlock deck!
This deck has 2 main win conditions:
- Tickatus+ Y'Shaarj, the Defiler. Mill 10 cards from your opponents deck as well get access to copies of Cascading Disaster which are free the turn you play Y'Shaarj, the Defiler.
- EDIT: After putting a LOT of thought into the deck as well as seeing tons of other theorycrafts, I think C'Thun, the Shattered is overkill and will likely not be needed in this kind of deck if my gauge on the meta is correct. I chose to add even more healing to the deck in the form of 2 Nether Breath as it works well with the amalgams. Also, I have added Soulciologist Malicia to cash in on those fragments and corrupt Tickatus. Now the deck has a healthy number of dragons and will do super well into aggro decks.
- With decks like Soul DH, Aggro Rogue, Secret/Face Hunter getting stronger this expansion, most games you wont ever get to realize the power of the greedier cards in this deck. The key to victory against these decks was survival anyways. Tickatus is more than enough to win control matchups by my estimation and if it is not, we can add back some of the value we lost by teching towards aggro and mid-range decks. Again the meta is all under speculation at this point but I think that the previous version of this deck would have suffered against those kinds of decks. Having 5 dragons now with Malicia also adds some board threat and healing which did not exist otherwise.
- As for Free Admission, the card I originally built this deck around, I think I over did it a bit on demon reliance because franky there are very many good demons in the standard rotation at this point. The dragon package is tried and true and the deck still maintains a 40% chance of drawing 2 demonsions with the card anyway (Assuming all 18 minions are in the deck). I dont think this card is worth the payoff of running sub-par demons in your deck. I was at an 80% threshold with the card but that wouldn't really matter against aggressive decks which most certainly dominate the meta right now!!
- After playing over 50 games with this deck and 3 different variants of it, I have come to the conclusion that the current package is soo slow against aggro and we need board presence, earlier. Also, I had underestimated the type of win-condition Tickatus is against pure control because I was under the impression I had to create more threats with cards like the Abyssal Summoner. This is NOT the case. The galakrond package gives us a much smoother curve as well as a 7 mana powerplay with the galakrond hero which also corrupts our cards.
C'Thun, the Shattered is another win-condition with this deck because we get access to 4 serviceable cards for more removal as well as the fact that even though the OG (Old God) is a neutral, it will not affect my percentages of drawing 2 demons using Free Admission. Right now the deck consists of 15 demons and 3 non-demon cards (C'Thun, the Shattered is not being considered in this calculation because by the time he is shuffled into the deck, Free Admission would have already likely been played.. So a 80%+ chance of getting a 4 mana discount is welcomed.Something many people have yet to consider is Headmaster Kel'Thuzad potentially being a win-condition of its own in this deck. This card combined with Cascading Disaster or Maw of C'Thun is a really powerful swing turn in its own right.- The second win-condition has made its entrance with the Darkmoon Races mini set; Envoy Rustwix!! This card in utterly insane as it shuffles 3 generically good cards (upgraded primes) into your deck which will ALL corrupt your Tickatus [/card](except [card]Akama Prime). With a sample size of 12 wins, this card and its value has single handedly won me 4 of those victories because of generating powerful primes!! Do not underestimate this card!
Optional Additions if the meta is really slow:
- Lord Jaraxxus would only be there to beat the priest matchup, nuff said.
- Sathrovarr can be an extra surprise win-condition which is still not making the deck at this point. This card might just be complete overkill and not something that we will ever need.
- C'Thun, the Shattered is another solid option in the deck because we get access to 4 serviceable cards for more removal as well as the fact that even though the OG (Old God) is a neutral, it will not affect my percentages of drawing 2 demons using Free Admission. Right now the deck consists of 15 demons and 3 non-demon cards (C'Thun, the Shattered is not being considered in this calculation because by the time he is shuffled into the deck, Free Admission would have already likely been played.. So a 80%+ chance of getting a 4 mana discount is welcomed.
- Headmaster Kel'Thuzad was suggested by one of the first people to comment on this deck and it was a great idea. Only, I think its just a tad greedy in my opinion and something to look ahead to if the meta does slow down.
- I was really high on Strongman but when it is corrupted, it cannot corrupt my other cards AND I only have 3 cards that start in the deck which can corrupt it. That is not consistent whatsoever and the Circus Amalgam really helps Free Admission and also bridges that gap between turns 3-8 really well.
What does C'Thun do?
Parts of C'Thun, the Shattered:
- Body of C'Thun: A great 6/6 taunt body for 5 mana.
- Eye of C'Thun: An Avenging Wrath for 1 mana cheaper and 1 less damage.
- Heart of C'Thun: Hellfire that costs 1 more mana and does not damage either hero.
- Maw of C'Thun: Assassinate, not great in rogue, especially after seeing Malevolent Strike but its more hard removal for Warlock and synergy with Maw of C'Thun
Why Galakrond?
Galakrond Warlock is not new, but is instead a long-standing deck since its release in the Descent Of Dragons expansion. This is a complex control archetype that does not show impressive statistics, but can easily compete with all the other decks if piloted correctly.
This is a slow deck, despite the aggressive tempo swing of Galakrond, the Wretched. Use 1/1 demon "tokens" to help fight for board presence, and utilize Plague of Flames for as much value as possible. You are able to draw through your deck very quickly, and most of the deck’s strategy is built around this. Even after losing your ability to Life Tap, you will still have Veiled Worshipper, which will draw 6 additional cards.
Does this deck have the removal?
This deck might is running a TON of removal because as it stands the deck can clear small minions and wide boards with ease:
It also runs a good amount of hard removal for those big boys!
- 2 Copies of Cascading Disaster and getting more back with Y'Shaarj, the Defiler.
- Twisting Nether.
- Plague of Flames.
- If the meta ends up having a lot of big minions, Siphon Soul is an option.
In terms of weapon removal or tech options: A silence or Acidic Swamp Ooze can replace Twisted Knowledge or one of my early-game removals if needed.
I have since changed the list substantially because I expect the meta to be a lot faster than initially expcted. However, after the rotation, the deck will welcome back some of those cards that were in the first version. (The main reason I chose to add the Crazed Netherwing is because the 3-health breakpoint is already so big in this meta. In addition, Petting Zoo is being added to the game and Fire Breather really does not solve that problem!
- Facing issues against value and control decks? Just addC'Thun, the Shattered.
- 33-17 so far. I also had a couple of people who added me after seeing this deck spectate!!
EDIT: Cut Felosophy (Not needed) and both Enhanced Dreadlord (Im corrupting Tickatus with Nether or Malicia anyways and its stuck in hand) and adding Acidic Swamp Ooze and 2 Manari Moshers (I have seen that I stick huge demons vs aggro decks and this card means i can heal for 10 at any given moment!!)Added Silas Darkmoon: There is a lot of buffing going on with res priest, pure paladin, menagerie warrior. Just play a 7 mana sylvanas.- UPDATE: DMR, the new cards have greatly augmented the deck and I am 12-4 as of right now, the losses coming to 3 aggro rogues (very overtuned deck) and one Mozaki mage!
Matchups:
- Against Aggro, should try to contest the board through the use of cards like Devoted Maniac and Dragonblight Cultist. Additionally, you should make liberal use of your removal; School Spirits and Dark Skies (With the addition of [card]Plague of Flames and early game minions, a second copy of either of these hasnt felt necessary.. Hysteria will also be huge in this matchup as it can be casted on the opponents Edwin VanCleef or Flesh Giant to decimate their own board!. Don't worry about winning the game, just don't die. :)
- Against Control, you will heavily prioritize card draw and Invoking as quickly as possible. Yes this is a control deck, but Galakrond Warlock reaches fatigue much faster than other Control decks. This made it essential to Invoke and play Galakrond, the Wretched as soon as possible to pressure opponents out of the game before fatigue damage sets in. WELL GUESS WHAT? Now, we have Tickatus along with Y'Shaarj, the Defiler to even out the biggest disadvantage this deck had. (This is a value bomb and wayyyy stronger than anybody expected). Before, a control priest or warrior could just sit back, relax, and spam their Bladestorm and Renew for answers and never have to lay a finger on your face.
- This is HUGE for this deck as now you can even out the fatigue counter with your first Tickatusas well as possibly moving ahead with Y'Shaarj, the Defiler or causing your opponent to mill their combo or C'Thun pieces.
- The addition of Envoy Rustwix means that you actually have a way to close out the game through the board as well as milling cards from their deck and grinding them out of resources.
The issue with this deck was never aggro decks (The winrates are decent vs aggro), its about being able to close out games in ways other than Galakrond, the Wretched. After over a year, Warlock has TWO powerful tools to help them close out games!!
I will continue to update this deck guide over each major patch and expansion!
That's good news, I ran into this too and was super confused. I thought perhaps it wasn't a bug because Silas rotated and wasn't under my control anymore.
Yeah was just trying different things day 1!
The Silas bug is super annoying and made me swap to other decks XD
Ill cut the moshers and add the dreadlords back :)
Just got wrecked in a game because of this bug. I wasn't paying enough attention and didn't notice the card didn't corrupt, so I just assumed a 7 mana card played the turn before had corrupted my 6 mana card (right Blizzard? that's how corrupt works right?), then I played Tickatus and milled myself.
So far I find it rather weak against aggro.
It has plenty of early game removal, one might consider adding Spirit Jailer and/or Void Drinker for more early game pressure.
It won't do. I'm playing even more defensive version now (with some early taunts and heal) and I usually end up dead on turn 5 against face hunter,
No deck will beat everything. Turns out this deck is SUPER Oppressive and no control deck can hang against it. The only way to beat this deck is pure aggro. This has been true in wild for years now. Just have as many tools as possible vs aggro and you should win some. Control? Just get Tickatus and enjoy the free win.
Agree that it's pretty strong against some control decks, but only if you draw and corrupt Tickatus early enough, which is easier to say than done.
I've played about 30 games with Tickatus-oriented decks and managed to use him around 10 times, of which I've burned 5 (or more) cards only 3-4 times. In all other cases my opponent's deck was already almost empty the moment I played him. I've also noticed that it's not very good against greedy decks like a Clown Druid, if you can't burn his key cards in time.
Against aggro Control Warlock is pure trash (way too slow and outdated) and since 80% of my matchups are vs aggro right now (I'm from Europe), I don't see point in playing it.
What do you think of Valdris Felgorge? Im using it instead of silas and he fits this deck like a glove imo.
Edit: spelling
This deck is one of the best I’ve played in a very long time! 10-0 so far in Diamond 5, Damn!
i will never, NEVER read "Priest Cancer" again.
This mill shit from warlock just the dumbest shitfest i've seen in 2020
yeah i wouldn't say this is eloquent but i do agree. Unfortunately I think the only balance to this type of deck is to smack you in the face and we know how much fun that is!
Didn't do too good with the deck at diamond 4-1. Went win loss win loss for ages then came up against high agro decks and lost hard! Also seems to lose against other lock decks
Control decks always need time to shape up while aggro decks are already preset. Give it some time
sir, one question, dust wise do you think it is already safe to create this deck? i am missing alextraza and malicia that's why i am asking don't want to waste dust just now
alextraza is a good card to craft regardless tbh
I guess it would be a different deck. But, I would replace the Dragon Package with Quest/Polkelt/Plot Twist.
Plot Twisting into Broodmother/Soul Shards is a life saver. Polkelt with 0 cost Alex/Yshaarj/Clown/Tickatus is a good win condition.
Going to be honest, I faced that deck and murdered it lol. Quest is not needed whatsoever.
Guys try this deck as well. I have found the Galakrond version to be more fluid. It also has more removal. 9-3 so far.
Unreal deck im currently 7-1 and it was only due to my own stupid misplay!
