I did it.
I finally found a shaman deck that works in current meta. It took me 1 evening to get from D7 to legend with this deck. It really has no bad matchups, I won against all types of decks. The deck has it all: good early game, board control, win condition, unexpected plays, some healing and of course unfair broken combos. And the best part of it: YOU WILL HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF FUN!
The idea behind the deck:
Against fast decks you control the board until you stabilize. Then you take over the game and finish your opponent.
Against control you use your great early cards to gain tempo and do some damage, then you use your totemic combo and finish off with a surprise Bloodlust
Main win conditions:
Totem Goliath + Totemic Reflection - game winning combo. You coin goliath. Your opponent is like "hey, screw it, I am going face". Boom, next turn you cast 3 mana " give +2/2 summon 7/7 with a deathrattle"
Bloodlust: you can spam the board pretty easily with Totem Goliath and Runic Carvings. You have lots of ways to both clear and have minions remain on board with cards like: Speaker Gidra, Serpentshine Portal Mogu Fleshshaper and Boggspine Knuckles. If your opponent fails to clear the board, Bloodlust will punish them. And they almost never see it coming.
Card choices and core cards:
Devolving Missiles - for removal and passing big taunts
Transfer Student - for early presence and resource generation
Instructor Fireheart - for finding lethals or board clears in desperate situations
Groundskeeper - game-winning versus agro
Torrent - for 1 mana kill early Edwin or big stupid Druid combo stuff
Totemic Reflections - very strong turn 3 if the opponent leaves your totem untouched
Rune Dagger - for dealing that 1 extra damage from spells when you really need it. Great with Ras Frostwhisperer and Lightning Storm
Totem Goliath - MVP
Runic Carvings - Very versatile card. Much needed 5+ mana spell for healing and can be used as proactive board spam or clear.
Diligent Notetaker - for resource generation and sometimes tempo gainer on 2 mana with double coin + another minion
Mulligan:
Always keep Transfer Student [/card] or [card]Wand Maker. Keep Serpentshine Portal against agro and tempo. Keep Devolving Missiles against Paladin. Keep Groundskeeper versus Aggro. Almost always keep Totem Goliath versus control and druids.
Changes:
After reaching Legend and playing a bit more I made few Changes:
- Mogu Fleshshaper
- Boggspine Knuckles
- 1 Lightning Storm
+ 2 Marshspawn - More resource generator. Can discover you spells you need to clear or activate your heal
+ 1 Splitting Axe - Acts just like Totemic Reflections with a weapon attached. Helps strengthen your win condition
I really hope you will enjoy the deck as much as I did. Good luck laddering!
So I gave this a try on my stream. So far I’m at a 0% winrate with it. I’ll play it again tonight but it seems to be hardcore RNG and a shitty opponent hand to even have a chance. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Keep in mind I am a wild player because I have all the cards so maybe it just not knowing the standard decks. Didn’t feel like it meshed at all. I see the point of trying to bloodlust to win but every class has board clear upon board clear this meta it kinda screws it all up. Tell me what I’m doing wrong
Rogue ignoring all of your threat and just keeping face damaging you to death. Groundskeepers heal will not save you and they just get sapped.
Hunter killing you before you can actually do anything relevant to stay alive
DH coming back mid-game with huge self healing and damage that you cannot prevent
Priest controlling your board all the time
Paladin hanging in there until late game when you basically already ran out of fuel and finishing you with super buffed minions
Well, how strange I have positive winrate then :) Cause very little of discribed above happens, simply because of 1 card called bloodlust. If they ignore your threat, they die in 1 turn.
Paladin is not an issue at all, cant remember to loose to a single one due to easy way to transform his minions. They simply dont have enough AOE in deck to clear.
DH is an issue, but absolutely winnable with good mulligan.
Priest is 50/50.
Mage can freeze, but not you should play so you apply pressure all the time.
With druid you are highly favorable
Warrior is hard due to removals, but my winrate is good, because your main weakness (card draw) becomes your main strength in this matchup.
I suggest you actually play the deck before commenting, like other guys who came with constructive comments.
Not that great after a handful of games. You basically need to high roll to win with this list....it easy to counter and play around for opponents, especially at high ranks. Yes it wins games vs certain classes , but not very consitent, yet.....
With the win condition of a board with Bloodlust, you need a board to stick. Expecting enemy to just comply with that isnt very consitent.
Not enough ways to build a small board, with your current list. Its too slow as well cuz theres no 1 drops to start contesting the board. Not really sure this qualifies as amazing either.
Ill keeep playing it and see but as a long time Shaman player I don think is very consistent.
I know that sometimes u will copy a Goliath and highroll, but most good players can play around that pretty easily these days.
Thx for sharing your deck, and keep it up!!
and remember , opinions are like assholes, everybody has one! Including me.
Peace.
Hey thx for sharing your great looking deck! Im gonna sit down with it tonite! I have been messing around with different ideas with Shaman lately, and I like your list alot. I never thought to just focus on the Totem Goliathin some of my lists. I liked using both the EVIL Totem and Mana Tide Totem with the Totemic Reflectionalot, but this approach is interesting, and I cant wait to try it out.
Hey i tried your old version and it was bad but this one is working. really well. 67% win rate so far. Mogu seems so powerful though I like the idea of evolving him. why did you decide to remove him?
Nice, glad its working for you too. I just couldnt fit all the cards in and looked for weakest link. Mogu was often in hand really long against druid or warrior and without weapon its just 3/4 rush. Evolve weapon worked good, but 4 mana weapon lets you basically do what you want to do with the deck: make more minions on board. And also, copying your goliath its just way too good, while you would never wish to transform it with 5 mana weapon.
Check out new additions to the deck. Now it works even better!
