A cheap, refreshing deck for F2P Mecha'thun enthusiasts!
So what's the wombo combo?
With your deck empty, you should have in your hand: Mecha'thun, Dollmaster Dorian, Kael'thas Sunstrider, Cataclysm, Plot Twist and any spell costing 2-mana or less (this means any spell in this deck excluding Dark Skies; reason explained below).
If the spare spell costs 2-mana, you must be on 10-mana crystals to pull this wombo combo off. If the spare spell costs 1-mana you can pull this off on 9-mana crystals.
- Play your spare spell.
- Play Dollmaster Dorian.
- Play Plot Twist. Dollmaster Dorian will summon 1/1 copies of Mecha'thun and Kael'thas Sunstrider.
- Play Cataclysm, Since you've already played 2 spells, Cataclysm will cost 1-mana.
- Right-click your hero power and click the "Well Played" emote.
Note that if you were lucky enough to get The Coin, you can do this combo on turn 8!
Sounds good and all but how do you even get to that point?
At your disposal is a massive draw engine and you need to focus it on drawing as fast as possible into Hemet, Jungle Hunter, some spare 1 or 2 mana spell and at least one Plot Twist. If Mecha'thun is a god, then Hemet, Jungle Hunter is Jesus. Playing Hemet will leave only your combo pieces.
You also need to be able to survive and you have a lot of broken board control cards such as Plague of Flames (which can also be used as an activator of Runic Egg), Unstable Felbolt, Defile and Doomsayer. Although you need to get some value from these cards, don't hold onto them for the "perfect" moment - you only need to survive the first few turns, not a full 35 mins game.
Pairing with these board control cards are healing such as Mistress of Mixtures, Voodoo Doctor and our boi Reno Jackson - This card gets activated quicker than you may think with so many 1 copy cards and a strong draw engine.
Tips and Tricks:
- I drew the nuts and got Hemet, Jungle Hunter, Plot Twist and a spare spell by turn 6 - should I play him?
The answer is it depends but most often not. Though it's tempting to draw the combo pieces as soon as possible, you need to be at least on turn 9 to pull of the combo. So ask yourself, can I survive until then with the hand that I have? On the flip side by limiting your deck drastically, you can also guarantee drawing Reno Jackson on turn 7 or 8, would that be enough?
Furthermore, in the higher ranks you may face 1 or 2 big brain people who are saving their Dirty Rat. Playing Hemet, Jungle Hunter would be a gigantic red flag and the go ahead to play Dirty Rat. Therefore, I recommend holding onto other minions such as Tour Guide, Kobold Librarian etc. Since, you've already got the nuts and your opponent's deck would kill you slowly, the key to the game is patience.
- What are some other card combos I should keep in mind? (Don't feel obliged to hold onto cards to pull these combos off).
Bloodmage Thalnos + Dark Skies: If you don't know, Dark Skies damage does not update after killing your spell damage minions, meaning it could deal up to 16 damage to your opponent's board and draw you a card.
Runic Egg + Plague of Flames / Defile. Since your opponent is not going to be doing your job for you, this is one of the few minions that you can guarantee to stick on the board. Hence, I've often had games where I play Runic Egg on turn 1 and use it later to kill a large minion a few turns later.
Card Replacements:
coming soon.
Not sure how this is "free to play" when it's 13k dust, but it's definitely a great deck.
I was mostly playing Mecha’thun Warlock prior to Scholomance and the Kael’Thas nerf. Pushing the combo to turn 9 pretty much killed the winning percentage. And the one class this deck was amazing against got a huge weapon in Mindrender Illucia?
I still run this deck type once in a while, but my personal belief is that it’s way too slow in the current meta. I gotta find an OTK that can go off whether you get mind rendered or not.
I love this deck so far. A few times a combo piece was burned by mill deck shenanigans, but mostly I've been able to control the board well enough and finish the combo by turn 9-11.
Thanks bro - appreciate it :)
The meta is cancer, so much agro decks, agro decks are the cancer of the game, the more agros decks, the faster decks are still created.
Aggro has a place in hearthstone - If there's no aggro, combo decks would run rampant and kill off any control decks. You just shouldn't be greedy, that's all.
Is this deck still viable? With Reno being rampant and Big Shaman, not sure if its even worth it. Two months ago I used this deck to reach legend when Scholomance wasnt out yet and Kaltheas wasnt nerfed.
not sure if I was just being lucky but I often do quite well against Reno and Big Shaman decks - Plague of Flames can destroy Big Shaman single-handedly. Though I must admit that this deck was better before the Kael'thas Sunstrider nerf but even still the deck is still quite consistent.
This deck is pure cancer to play against! Dark Skies is busted, also Unstable Felbolt can be used even when you don't have own minions which is crazy broken. Probably the only good counter is Dirty Rat and Pressure Plate
Why no tour guides? They are basically a power creep of novice engineers.
thanks for the suggestion, I'm trying it out.
