Tempo Dragon Hunter (D5 - Legend)

Hello, my battle-tag is Wololo#1780, and I came back to HS after more than a year of break because of quarantine and stuff. I main board classes (mid shaman / paladin, zoolock), but sadly they are not consistent enough right now. So here a good cheap option.

------ A bit about how I see HS now, you can START SKIP here if you want -----

I always used to get Legend with Midrange Shaman back in the day (Totem, Jade, Jade-Elemental, Elemental-Even), only the Totem being a Top-Tier back then.

I tried again now but Shaman is not viable, 2 of my old preferred cards (Flame-tongue, Hex, Bloodlust) were nerfed, and the overload of Sandstorm Elemental keep it far from a Maelstrom Portal.

I also tried Paladin as is my second preferred class for midrange. It has good options but still can't keep up with the infinite resources of other classes consistently enough.

Midrange always struggled against the hordes of OP decks each expansion until now, but finally the Board games are dead. Today, only tempo and face decks remain consistent against control, and as I don't like Rogue nor Demon Hunter, my only option was the old black sheep, the most infamous of the old midranges, Hunter.

--------------------   END SKIP     ---------------------

Mulligan:

Priority: 1 and 2 drops.

Once you have them: Stormhammer, Scalerider, 3 or 4 mana dragon.

---------------------------

Guide:

The play-style of this deck is similar to Dragon Warrior back in the day, you can both put pressure or/and control board with your weapon and minions that impact the board ASAP.

I don't play Freezing Trap as is bad against aggro and even control, neither Explosive Trap which is awful against control and not needed in this deck so much because of the Scaleriders. I prefer the Pack Tactics all day and if I have to include something else probably it would be a Snake Trap as a Kill Command activator. And in this deck, the combo of Pack Tactics with Bone Wraith or the Primordial Explorer will win you more than you could think.

If you get Tracking and you don't have a play, you can use it to search for a next turn play or a dragon activator, is not so a misplay as some people says (if you don't have other option obviously).

Sometimes control the board, sometimes priorice face damage (like if you suspect a Bamboozle secret don't trade a 5 attack minion into their Shield of Galakrond, instead trade your 2/2 or 1/3 against it and maybe it works as a free silence for the taunt)

Tap as much as you can, if you have 6 mana is generally better a 4 mana play and tap that a 5 or 6 mana play, except is needed for board control. This way you are in a better position is case of losing board later than overextending (the opponent is at lower health and you have something to play in your hand)

Also when you can keep some dragons in hand, playing them one by one allow you to secure an infinite weapon and the so needed activators (of the dragon synergic cards).

Replacements / Techs:

Sorry but you can't replace the weapons, other than that almost all the deck is already super cheap.

Edit: I cut Kill Command and Burrowing Scorpid

for another Big Ol' Whelp and Bone Wraith.

Is more consistent this way.

Proof of Legend:  (HSTracker is working bad so I don't have the stats, only photos, but as all hunter decks it has a good winrate as it took me less than a day go from Diamond 5 to Legend)

-------------------------------

To finish:

This is just what I can thing right now about the deck, is as easy as most of decks that you would see in the meta now (yes, being a top tier priest/mage/rogue/warrior, etc with infinite removals and OP cards is not soo hard to play).

You can try going Legend with Shaman now if you really want to try a hardcore mode. From the Ashes of Outland release I even tried Pirate Evolve Shaman. Now that is a hard deck.

Next season I may try going legend again with Shaman as the old days, there must be a Unicorn Shaman deck somewhere apart from Murlocs, Totem and Galakrond. Maybe an hybrid of them, who knows.

Any question or suggestion you can write here or add my battletag Wololo#1780. See ya!
