Dear All,
this is the Khadgar HighIander Mage I used to climb from Diamond 4 to Legend on April 10 and 11.
33 games, 22 wins and 11 Losses with a 66% WR.
Very favoured against Big Druid and Galakrond Warlock. DH can be a hard match-up if they run an aggressive version of the deck.
Mulligan:
During the mulligan, I usually try to go for the value early game cards, including Arcane Breath, Ray of Frost, Zephrys the Great, Doomsayer, Astromancer Solarian, Overconfident Orc, Arcane Manasaber and even Dragoncaster against certain slower decks such as Priest, Druid and Rogue.
Khadgar:
While Khadgar should always be used in combo with Deep Freeze, Power of Creation or to certain extent Conjurer's Calling it is fair to drop it on turn 2 against very aggressive decks to have a body on the board.
Dragoncaster:
I usually try to keep Twilight Drake in hand to always have a Combo enabler, even if I don't have Dragon Caster or Malygos, Aspect of Magic in hand. Dragoncaster into Deep Freeze, Power of Creation or Conjurer's Calling on turn 6 is a huge power play and should be exploited whenever possible.
Match-ups:
Gala Warlock (easy): very straightforward match-up, they only have 3 win conditions: Gala board, Dragonqueen Alexstrasza and Zephrys the Great. You have 3 big board removals: Zephrys the Great, The Amazing Reno and Reno the recologist. Use your board removals wisely and they will run out of plays.
Ress priest (easy to medium): Incredibly boring match-up but you have the tools to outvalue your opponent. Play slowly and don't overcommit your board.
Big Druid (medium): let them ramp, use freeze wisely while they build a board and then wipe it out with your removals.
Tempo DH (hard): you have to stall the game as soon as possible. Don't be afraid to drop a turn 2 Doomsayer or Khadgar. Overconfident Orc and and Rustseed Raider are your friends here, however remember they have a way to overcome taunts. If you manage to drop Deep Freeze on a DH empty board freezing their face, game is easily over.
Highlander archetype is my favorite one. Sadly i cannot craft because i dont have galakrond adventure =(
Btw, excelent deck!
u think it worth it to craft kalegos, khadgar and reno ? im stuck at diamond 5-4, should i try this deck? im playing wl, dh and spell druid with no success.
Depends on if you like mage or not and particularly if you like highlander style. I'd say wait a couple of days for meta to settle in after the nerfs.
Good deck
you have an outstanding posts history. keep the good work
As a legend player I can't handle to win much with this deck.
I don't see how Galakrond Warlock is an easy matchup for this. He kills your board clears by polluting your deck with Albatrosses.
Maybe it's also because I hate luck based decks and games. The Amazing Reno, Puzzle Box, Pilgrim... they all did not worked out very well for me. Pilgrim rolling fieblasted itself while there were just enemies on the board. Amazing Reno keeps buffing the enemy (giving his minions lifesteal in the endgame and after that Bee's them for giving the enemy hero as much health as possible before dying from fatigue damage :(
Maybe I have just been very very unlucky, but I like more skill based oriented decks. Well, hard to find in Hearthstone these days :D
Sorry to hear, I usually find warlock a very easy match.
There might be something you do wrong tho if you use Tortollan Pilgrim into Rolling Fireblast. As a rule of thumb you should go for spells with certain outcome, Power of Creation being number 1 but also arcane intellect, frost nova, ice barrier, etc..
Yeah sure, but in this case, these spells unfortunately haven't been offered and to be fair Fire Ball would have been a board clear by hitting the right minion. I just wanted to point out my particular bad luck with Rolling Fireball hitting my only minion instead of one of the three enemies (25% ;-) )
Maybe I should give it another chance and pray for better luck next games ^^"
Thank you though.
Deck worked after some time of learning it. Went from 5 to legend with 66 % win rate. Thanks for this list.
almost 20k dust lol
This deck ain't for no broke da broke.
Hi,
I was wondering if The Amazing Reno could be substituted with Raid the Sky Temple, since I don't own the Galakrond's Awakening solo adventure. Maybe even Deathwing for the wipe? I really like this deck and Reno and the Manasaber are the only cards that I'm missing. Or maybe any other good replacement suggestions?
Definitely not. There are not that many spells in the deck. You will never complete the quest. If you want to run Raid the Sky Temple you should consider pure spell mage instead.
I hadn't thought of that yet, that's a good point. I'm running Deathwing at the moment as a last resort but I'm not really liking it. Do you maybe have any other suggestions?
I would say your best bet is probably a flamestrike. Similar functionality in being a high-value board clear. I agree that DW is no good since your hand is usually full.
Swapped Maiev for Polymorph.. works fine... Mulligan for water elemental, Bone wraith, and ray of frost against DH
to stabilize the early board. if you draw Zephrys in the meantime you are in control...Mulligan for polymorph against Galak warlock for the first Albatross he drops...
best counter for priest
I swapped the water elemental for a polymorph and it has been working well. Water ele is great vs Demon Hunter but polymorph comes in more clutch against Priest, Druid, Warlock, and Rogue.
What about running polymorph instead of maiev ? i would like to counter that stupid bird
Ok, well, thanks Reno!
