Hey everyone!
UPDATE: Just want to say thanks to everyone who's checked out the deck, gotten to legend or whatever rank they wanted to and gave feedback! I'm currently updating the guide to incorporate some of the comments/techs to make everyone's climbs easier!
Big shout out to @Bob_The_Builder for the pre-rotation decklist. Wanted to show off the few changes I added when we lost Zilliax, SN1P-SN4P, and Lord Godfrey.

My legend run from Diamond 5 - 0 stars to Legend was 18-2 with mostly DH and Rogues. As a note, this was played as soon as rotation hit, so it was definitely as easier climb that you will experience now. My two losses were against: OTK DH and a misplay against Galakrond Rogue by staying at 8 with 4 fatigue damage coming and getting eviscerated on an empty board.
The newest additions of the deck are as follows:
2x Unstable Felbolt AMAZING AMAZING early removal. You can play it on an empty board to get rid of anything aggro. Best thing for single targets such as Primordial Explorer and Phase Stalker before they can come online. Also as a note, it helps soften your board up to Dark Skies if you have too many minions, it helps take away 5 damage total. [3 + 3 - 1 card from dark skies]
1x Keli'dan the Breaker Definitely no Lord Godfrey, but it'll do. Single target removal all the time, and circumstantial complete board clear. The body sucks, but it does it's job really well! And with all of the draw mechanics, you're bound to draw it just in time if you need the full clear!
I originally sought out this deck after losing to it playing Embiggen druid. I saw the potential of plague and the invokers. That's what took me to this decklist. I couldn't believe how efficient dark skies was either.
Matchups:
Aggro [DH, Dragon Hunter]: Keep Unstable Felbolt, Dark Skies, Sacrificial Pact or any early removal. Remember, Sacrificial Pact deals with Frenzied Felwing in Hunter and many targets in Demon Hunter. Definitely worth the keep.
Combo [DH OTK]: Keep cards that heal and Dark Skies of course. You need to take care of the early threats. Luckily they're really small. Typically Novice Engineers and Crimson Sigil Runner. You must stay above 20 health or have a taunt up to even stand a chance if they assemble their cards by turn 7. My one loss against this deck, I was at 19 and they comboed to 20 health. Needless to say, I had a sac pact I could've used, but I didn't see it coming!
Control/Midrange [Galakrond Rogue/Warrior/Priest, Quest Priest, Embiggen Druid]: Keep Plague of Flames and Invoke cards. You will want to dig through your deck as fast as possible to get Zephyrs the Great and Dragonqueen Alexstrasza online. The best path to victory is having a fully upgraded Galakrond, Azeroth's End to heal up/stabilize, and then drop Alexstrasza either offensively, or defensively, and wrap up the game.
Overall, the strategy is simple:
- Kill early threats with Unstable Felbolt and Dark Skies.
- Finish off larger threats with Mortal Coil.
- Deal with large boards with [Invoke Card] + Plague of Flames and Keli'dan the Breaker
- Mess up your opponents deck with Bad Luck Albatross
- Draw lots of cards with Veiled Worshipper
- Keep your health in check with Sacrificial Pact, Nether Breath, and Alexstrasza
- Swing for the fences with Galakrond, the Wretched, Dragonqueen Alexstrasza, and Zephrys the Great
Check out this game play video from @Kadakk
and from @drinjix22
Techs:
- Bad Luck Albatross
+ Mo'arg Artificer
If you're having trouble removing large boards, this is an amazing tech. You can remove one or both of the Albatrosses.
-[ card]Veiled Worshipper[/card]
+ Maiev Shadowsong
I've not actually tested this but @Dayvo had this suggestion as a tech against big druid since draw is typically sufficient.
Possible Budget Subs:
- Keli'dan the Breaker
+ Shadowflame
You always have a board, so this could actually be even more efficient tbh.
- Zephrys the Great/Dragonqueen Alexstrasza
+ 2x Twilight Drake
If you don't have the budget to play the highlander cards, you can take advantage of the hand size by using drake. This also helps keep the balance of dragon cards for cards that require you to hold one!
- Veiled Worshipper
+ Twisted Knowledge
Definitely not a *great* replacement but it does help with hand size. There's probably something better, but this is what I've experimented with.
- Dark Skies
+ Fiendish Rites
This may not help you clear board normally, but will give you more fuel for a large Plague of Flames. Definitely recommend crafting [card]Dark Skies[card] though.
Currently Testing:
Waste Warden Could be great against token Kael'thas Druid to clear all the treants.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to ask any questions.
u never get it because its not classic :(
I came from Diamond 3 to Legend on this deck. Winrate 69%. 20-9.
Thank you, mate!
Enjoyed a lot to play this deck. Spend weekends for taking my 1st legendary (usually I don't waste so much time for this).
Pretty interesting to play mirrors and outplay your opponent.
I came from Diamond 10 to Legendary with 66% (37-19).
Some details:
- DH (10-4). Pretty easy matchup (all archetypes), but could lose if ur opponent is so lucky and you didn't get heals and board-clear
- Druid (3-6). Spell druid is the worst matchup, cause if you are lucky to get all your clears at time, this shit could rip off the board with the deathrattles and always will have a "Wild Roar" in 1 card to finish you. Pretty bitchy and raging enemy
- Hunter (2-2). Easy matchup, lost one to OTK hunter, case he found all required cards in the first and lost to the face, due to my mulligan misplay
- Mage (1-1). Not a hard one, but you could lost due to bad cards and if ur opponent (like mine) would find from spell two 5/2 with charge
- Paladin (0-0). Does somebody plays paladin now?
- Priest (4-0). All types - zephrys/ressurect/galakrond. You will beat them in a long match, overvaluing them.
- Rogue (4-2). Positive matchup, but pretty rng one, cause I lost one battle due to 2 "Winged Guardian", found by my opponent from the cats
- Shaman (1-0). Rare opponent, don't a problem
- Warlock (11-4). Zoo is easy if you will found all board-clear and lifesteal at time and ur opponent isn't a goldfish one. Quest - you will overvalue him. Galakrond - interesting mirror, the main component of winrate is a skill and understanding how to play. Could be won both from the leading and losing positions
- Warrior (1-0). Rare one, wasn't a problem.
So have a good plays with this deck and less bitchy druids and rng opponents
where stuck in plat 5. with this deck i just now hit diamond i think this is a great deck for everything:)
I have not played HS in about 18 months. Logged on to try this new expansion due to the new BH class. Tried out a few decks and found this one. Great job on it, I have gone from w/e the starting rank is to D5 already in a few days. Totally crushed DH (also low ranks didn't play well).
Feel its really competitive overall and probably rogue feels like toughest match up. Crushes DH unless they run like god on draws, does very well versus the spell druid deck which I am seeing a lot of. I have only run into 1 warrior and shamen both aggro and it crushed them as well. Have seen 0 Pally decks and only a few mage which also this crushed quite hard.
What's the point of having Dragonqueen Alex + Zephyr if this deck contains duplicates?
Lategame... you have good draw in this deck
this deck is really solid. good draws, sometimes a little awkward when you still have nothing to do with a full hand but thats control warlock. i do find myself consistently losing to braindead hunter but what doesnt.
yeah, i climb to legend with this yesterday. aggro Hunter match up is an auto concede, but there not much of them on ladder right now because of DH i think
Love your deck!
I switched a Veiled Worshipper for Maiev Shadowsong, IMO deck has enough draw, and Maiev helps against big sticky taunts like the ones Big Druid has
Great deck.
Can Kelidan be replaced? Siphon soul maybe? Thanks for the advice.
Thanks! From what I've recommended in the deck, shadow flame is pretty good! You tend to always have some mid sized body on the board to sac. But if you need actual spot removal, siphon should do it job
Thanks.
Also, do you think putting Archivist Elysiana is worth it? I keep running out of cards against Priests and Mages.
Wow, that is a good question. I might try that in a bit. Maybe a Zephrys sub...?
i don't think it will help if you not win by the time to play Archivist Elysiana you lose anyway. i almost always won vs mage/priest with this deck though
Why not replace it with Twisting Nether, it serve the same purpose. Can be better if you need consistent board clear.
I miss Alexstrasza, Kronx Dragonhoof and Keli'dan the Breaker. What do you think it is best to craft ? I can only craft 1 or maybe 2 of them.
You can try the budget subs on the bottom. I'm thinking kronx > Alex >keil'dan
Alexstrasza, Kronx Dragonhoof is the best to craft .kronx is a much have in galakrond obviously. Alex is a classic neutral and one of the win condition of this deck, play it after galakrond to finish of the opponent
