Hey everyone!
UPDATE: Just want to say thanks to everyone who's checked out the deck, gotten to legend or whatever rank they wanted to and gave feedback! I'm currently updating the guide to incorporate some of the comments/techs to make everyone's climbs easier!
Big shout out to @Bob_The_Builder for the pre-rotation decklist. Wanted to show off the few changes I added when we lost Zilliax, SN1P-SN4P, and Lord Godfrey.

My legend run from Diamond 5 - 0 stars to Legend was 18-2 with mostly DH and Rogues. As a note, this was played as soon as rotation hit, so it was definitely as easier climb that you will experience now. My two losses were against: OTK DH and a misplay against Galakrond Rogue by staying at 8 with 4 fatigue damage coming and getting eviscerated on an empty board.
The newest additions of the deck are as follows:
2x Unstable Felbolt AMAZING AMAZING early removal. You can play it on an empty board to get rid of anything aggro. Best thing for single targets such as Primordial Explorer and Phase Stalker before they can come online. Also as a note, it helps soften your board up to Dark Skies if you have too many minions, it helps take away 5 damage total. [3 + 3 - 1 card from dark skies]
1x Keli'dan the Breaker Definitely no Lord Godfrey, but it'll do. Single target removal all the time, and circumstantial complete board clear. The body sucks, but it does it's job really well! And with all of the draw mechanics, you're bound to draw it just in time if you need the full clear!
I originally sought out this deck after losing to it playing Embiggen druid. I saw the potential of plague and the invokers. That's what took me to this decklist. I couldn't believe how efficient dark skies was either.
Matchups:
Aggro [DH, Dragon Hunter]: Keep Unstable Felbolt, Dark Skies, Sacrificial Pact or any early removal. Remember, Sacrificial Pact deals with Frenzied Felwing in Hunter and many targets in Demon Hunter. Definitely worth the keep.
Combo [DH OTK]: Keep cards that heal and Dark Skies of course. You need to take care of the early threats. Luckily they're really small. Typically Novice Engineers and Crimson Sigil Runner. You must stay above 20 health or have a taunt up to even stand a chance if they assemble their cards by turn 7. My one loss against this deck, I was at 19 and they comboed to 20 health. Needless to say, I had a sac pact I could've used, but I didn't see it coming!
Control/Midrange [Galakrond Rogue/Warrior/Priest, Quest Priest, Embiggen Druid]: Keep Plague of Flames and Invoke cards. You will want to dig through your deck as fast as possible to get Zephyrs the Great and Dragonqueen Alexstrasza online. The best path to victory is having a fully upgraded Galakrond, Azeroth's End to heal up/stabilize, and then drop Alexstrasza either offensively, or defensively, and wrap up the game.
Overall, the strategy is simple:
- Kill early threats with Unstable Felbolt and Dark Skies.
- Finish off larger threats with Mortal Coil.
- Deal with large boards with [Invoke Card] + Plague of Flames and Keli'dan the Breaker
- Mess up your opponents deck with Bad Luck Albatross
- Draw lots of cards with Veiled Worshipper
- Keep your health in check with Sacrificial Pact, Nether Breath, and Alexstrasza
- Swing for the fences with Galakrond, the Wretched, Dragonqueen Alexstrasza, and Zephrys the Great
Check out this game play video from @Kadakk
and from @drinjix22
Techs:
- Bad Luck Albatross
+ Mo'arg Artificer
If you're having trouble removing large boards, this is an amazing tech. You can remove one or both of the Albatrosses.
-[ card]Veiled Worshipper[/card]
+ Maiev Shadowsong
I've not actually tested this but @Dayvo had this suggestion as a tech against big druid since draw is typically sufficient.
Possible Budget Subs:
- Keli'dan the Breaker
+ Shadowflame
You always have a board, so this could actually be even more efficient tbh.
- Zephrys the Great/Dragonqueen Alexstrasza
+ 2x Twilight Drake
If you don't have the budget to play the highlander cards, you can take advantage of the hand size by using drake. This also helps keep the balance of dragon cards for cards that require you to hold one!
- Veiled Worshipper
+ Twisted Knowledge
Definitely not a *great* replacement but it does help with hand size. There's probably something better, but this is what I've experimented with.
- Dark Skies
+ Fiendish Rites
This may not help you clear board normally, but will give you more fuel for a large Plague of Flames. Definitely recommend crafting [card]Dark Skies[card] though.
Currently Testing:
Waste Warden Could be great against token Kael'thas Druid to clear all the treants.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to ask any questions.
I don't usually comment or like decks here on hearthpwn but honestly, this deck has made me have a lot of fun and it's deffinatelly really strong! Good job!
Thank you for this deck - I used it to hit legend for the first time ever. Had a 65% winrate overall and saw exactly the same number of Demon Hunters and Druids (even had the exact same record against each, 13-7).
Losses to DH were usually from aggro that hit their draws perfectly. Losses to Druid were from spell only druid that hit early Kael'thas Sunstrider or where I didn't have a second dragon tag in my hand to trigger Crazed Netherwing. Warrior presented the most problems, though I only saw four of them (went 2-2). My first final boss attempt was against an off-meta bomb warrior that I thankfully only saw once, it was brutal.
Keli'dan the Breaker was absolutely vital in several games, especially against druid's huge taunts (or Kael'Thas... that guy has to die immediately) or rogue's Edwin VanCleef.
The only cards that felt a little weak were Zephrys the Great and Dragonqueen Alexstrasza.
I really, really wanted to like Zephrys the Great but often found the cards offered to be less than ideal, especially against DH. Zephrys's battlecry can only be triggered at the end of the game, at which point you'll usually see the same few cards. Tirion Fordring is almost always offered but is usually just bypassed or silenced. Natalie Seline was one of the better offerings, as she can be pretty clutch against druid or rogue. Also worth noting that I had a couple instances where lethal was possible with the right card (like Moonfire when I was at zero mana and the opponent was at one health), but it wasn't offered.
Dragonqueen Alexstrasza is really strong if you already have board control, but I usually needed at least some mana to deal with the opponent's board. I tried replacing the Dragonqueen with Zzeraku the Warped but that didn't feel good either. Dragonqueen did win me a handful of games, so that's why I went back to it.
Again, great deck!!
Real solid deck, powerfull late game and tons of responses.
Got diamond with him.
21-1 only losing by a misplay/greediness. *

Basically auto-lose against any spell druid or spell mage.
No aoe on turn 5 when he fills the board ? Lose. Play Gala against mage ? Reno. Yup, nice meta.
lol
I never loose against mage with this deck, and it's handling spell druid pretty easily (aoe=crazed netherwing/unstable felbolt+ dark skies/cultist+plague of flames and so on.. ;)
??? Yeah its not a Wild deck :D Genius
fucked up this deck
Have you considered adding Magtheridon? i know he seems more of a meme rather than a card but ive actually lost to the same warlock deck and the opponent played him and then Crazed netherwing to clear the 3 minions he spawned (to awaken him) and fucked up my board. I know its a pretty costly combo but sometimes the oponent somehow doesnt have very good single removal (if you are vs rogue well rip then).
Man i dont know how to thank you. My first legend ever because of this deck. You sir are a legend!
getting killed by aggro like every deck in this game. This game got soooo aggro heavy its fn ridiculous. Cant even enjoy it anymore and no im not joining them no brain game in making one
brother, you should keep all the anti aggro stuff that this deck has. You are probably wrong at mulligan, I've faced many implacable aggro's and I've finished them all.
Thank you man, i copied this list, made just few changes and got legend today.
This is the best deck in this demon hunter meta, cause demon hunter is OP, but if only finds mirrors it is a 50% deck.
This deck beats demon hunter (Only against demon hunters i hd 8W-4L...so 66% win) and beats the others even more, including other classes my final win rate was 70%.
It is lower than yours cause you created first and didn't face...yourself.
Yes, the most terrible match is the mirror, cause it is the only match at 50% and to win the most games against mirror you have to outsmart the opponent. I only made 4W-3L in mirror, still positive win rate btw.
I got really lucky by playing day 1. Definitely had that as a disclaimer so no one gets pissed it sucks in the current meta.
Glad you were able to have success with it!
Works well, thanks for the deck 8)
Hey guys,
I just tried this deck and made a showcase of it right here! I experimented with control gala lock my self and it seems very strong and imo has a lot of potential. If you are interested of gameplay of this deck you can check it bellow. First game is a straight up mirror match that reminded me a lot of the old control lock mirrors (with dks). Then I am smashing some demon hunters ezpz!
I hope you can enjoy the showcase and have a nice expansion everyone :)
Hi, can you please explain why there is a Zephrys the Great card in the deck? Wouldn't ACIDIC SWAMP RESOURCE be better instead? The same body and you will use it to the maximum even at the beginning of the game and especially against DH. Thanks
It's there for the same reason dragon queen is in there. As a finisher. But similar to below, you could put an ooze in instead if you find it the most necessary tech.
