So people are saying that Eye of the Storm is garbage, and they're probably not far off, it doesn't look great, but it's still a lot of stats and they have taunt which means you usually don't die after playing it, which is unique for a 10 mana card.
Between Sky Gen'ral Kragg and the usual quest shaman package getting to turn 10 should be pretty easy, then the idea is to drop King Phaoris, then drop shudderwock, then you've still get 2 more board refills with the new 10 mana spell, which is a lot of pressure late game. The only iffy part seems to be finding the time to play Phaoris, but once you do that, it seems like a Nomi deck that doesn't need your deck to be empty. Maybe won't be a game changer but it looks fun.
Other possible options:
Far Sight - additional card draw, chance to discount phaoris, shudderwock or one of the Eye of the Storms allowing them to be played back to back, I'd like to find room for 2 of these but I'm not sure what to cut. Maybe 1xBogslosher and 1xCable Rat? or both sloshers? Not sure, have to test it first.
Swampqueen Hagatha - Great card, I just don't own it.
Former Champ Not a terrible card, especially if you end up without any big spells for your shudderwock, but I honestly never cared for it even in the original quest shaman, if I'm going to spend a whole turn filling a board with a couple 5/5s, I might as well just play Phaoris.
EDIT: Changes!
I took out Mind Control Tech, Rain of Toads and 1 Bog Slosher.
In my experience most decks can play around MCT too easily except for galakrond warlock, and stealing a 1/1, or even their 4/5 taunt just isn't enough to be helpful, so I swapped it out for a Hagatha's Scheme. I swapped out the other 2 cards for 2xFar Sight for the additional card draw and chance to high roll a high cost card.
Finally, I swapped out the weapon thief for the new shaman weapon, The Fist of Ra-den, which might really make this deck come together. the fact that it summons the minion AFTER the spell means you can clear the board and still get the minion, which is pretty great.
Just a quick idea of the minions you can get at the relevant mana costs, either from the weapon or from Phaoris:
3:
BAD - 11 under-statted minions with no effect
MIDDLE - 2 minions with decent stats, a 3/4 and a 4/3,
GOOD - Stargazer Luna, SN1P-SN4P and King Mukla
In other words, try very hard not to waste a weapon charge on a 3 mana spell unless you're against aggro and just need a body to trade with. It does make casting Far Sight much easier against aggressive decks.
5:
Not even getting into it, Duskfallen Aviana is reason enough to avoid it with my luck, and the primary reason I only included 1 5-cost spell, you can high roll a Zilliax but there likely won't be any minions to hit, so really the only good minions are Waxadred and Leeroy. That said there's a lot of 5/5s too, so it's very rarely the WORST thing even if you don't have a choice.
7:
BAD - 5 under-statted minions with no effect (4/4 or worse), and also Blackhowl Gunspire, but that could actually be decent if you have a taunt lackey.
MIDDLE - 12 minions with decent stats (5/5 or better) and no relevant effect except for 1 well statted taunt, good followup to a clear.
GOOD - Archmage Antonidas, Baron Geddon, Goru the Mightree, Prophet Velen, Shu'ma.
So this is a really great one to use with the weapon, we run 2 7-cost spells.
10:
BAD - Hakkar, the Soulflayer though he could be good against certain decks, King Phaoris is just a 5/5, not great.
MIDDLE - Emeriss, The Boom Reaver and Nozari All have decent stats and no effect. Kalecgos also goes here, because we only run board clears and the one set of 10-mana spells, and if it costs 0 we don't get a good minion from our spell, so the ability is irrelevant but a 4/12 body is still good.
GOOD - Colossus of the Moon, Deathwing, Mecha'thun. Great stats, a lot of pressure.
So essentially it's a weapon that wants to be played around turn 6 or 7 so you can clear the board while applying pressure, which should help greatly with creating an opening to play phaoris.
Yeah I'm expirimenting with that combo right now that we have the Eye of the Storm released to us. Haven't drawn Phaoris yet tho :'(
But it's been interesting to play a more control-based quest shaman. I've been tinkering a lot with the lineup. The cards that usually stay in my hand longer are the control cards (Earthquake and Hagatha's Scheme) but I think that's by design. I'm also feeling like Mogu Fleshshaper stays in my hand longer than I'd like, thinking of cutting those.
I'd personally recommend keeping the mogu, because without it you're a lot more likely to get blown out by galakrond warlock, but if you're not seeing a lot of them then yeah go ahead and cut it, it's really only good against wide boards.
Some things to keep in mind though, Eye of the Storm discounts Mogu by 3, so sometimes you can play eye of the storm into a mogu to generate some taunts AND clear a minion, and HP into 2-drop lackey can also make for a cheap mogu. It does seem weaker in this deck than in more dedicated quest/galakrond shaman decks, but I still think it's good enough against aggro to keep, personally.
If I was going to cut anything it would be Bogslosher and/or the Far Sights in favor of more removal, since our early game is so weak.
But as always feel free to tinker and if the meta you're seeing right now is light on aggro you may not need the same changes I do lol
I've found the Bog to be quite crucial in helping to smooth out our weak early game and also active the quest on time. It was something I looked at cutting but didn't like the results. Unless we're adding more into the early game, I recommend keeping the Bog, personally.
I think Mogu is good and may put it back in my lineup soon, as the Lynchen isn't panning out for me, too inconsistent. But I also will need to make room to what I'm running right now for the Kragg and Fist of Ra-Den coming out. Still trying different combinations.
Those cuts will be easy, cut a faceless for kragg and cut mutate for the weapon.
you'll notice a common theme in all of my decks is that they're all control/value oriented, lol. I'm not a big fan of tempo and I hate aggro decks. I have the most fun with decks that require a lot of careful decision making and effectively play like a big puzzle that solves differently every game.
Some notes... You're going to need Hoard Pillager and Kobold Stickyfinger to stop people from teching them in themselves, since your whole build is around that weapon...
This deck is more likely going to work around Eureka! and Walking Fountain... Add some Electra Stormsurge and Far Sight shenanigans too.
this version of the deck actually isn't designed around the weapon at all, the weapon is just a nice benefit. I'm really not sure what made you think that, but I put this list together before the weapon was even spoiled, and have updated it since then. This version is designed around generic quest shaman shenanigans with Phaoris and Shudderwock as finishers, the weapon just adds some extra oomph. I didn't include any 6-cost spells because 6-cost legendaries are very mediocre, as are the 6-cost shaman spells, the idea behind the weapon in THIS deck is that it lets you clear the board and generate tempo at the same time. Also I am running 2xFar Sight.
However, in a deck designed around the weapon I think you're completely correct. However, I'd also build that list entirely differently, without any quest shaman stuff. I'd built it tempo-control, probably Galakrond, and I'd include a lot more 2 cost spells as 2-cost legendaries on average are well statted and let you flood the board to set up for a bloodlust finish, and the weapon would also let you use bloodlust to clear a board you couldn't otherwise while still generating a minion to maintain tempo.
Deck looks cool
Oooh, I like including Phaoris in this set, great idea!
If I don't have Sky Gen'ral Kragg (or even knew that was a card in this new set), do you think I can swap it out for Swampqueen Hagatha or would she be too slow to replace that with? I worry she'd be too slow, but I also love that card, so I wanna try it....
You know what? I'll just go try it lol.
Kragg and the 10 mana spells are cards that are coming out in the new adventure, so this deck won't really work until then lol, however they ALSO just spoiled a weapon coming in the same adventure: 4 mana 1/4 weapon, "AFTER you cast a spell, summon a legendary minion of the same cost. Lose 1 durability." So since it's after, you can clear the board and still get a minion after, so this deck might actually be a real thing.
EDIT: That said, hagatha is a great card in the deck, I just don't own her personally so I didn't include her. Also I'm sure this is not the most optimized list, but until the adventure drops and I can actually test the deck out I won't know how well it performs and what to change, so feel free to tinker with it.
I figured that out... Eventually lol. Any thoughts on trying to include Faceless Corruptor and Barista Lynchen for infinite Shudderwock combo? Or does that add too much clutter?
I won't really know until I can play the full list, but I'm positive that this is NOT the most optimal list, so feel free to tinker around and see what works and what doesn't. Just pay attention to what cards stay in your hand too long or end up not having enough impact.
