The Descent Of Dragons expansion brought more fire spewing winged beasts than hearthstone has ever seen. The minion-centric quest reward from Activate the Obelisk had me trembling in anticipation at buffing the already well statted forces of terror to unleash their fury upon the hearthstone meta game.

Unfortunately Priest remained sucky in standard for a number of reasons over recent expansions. But due to the rich history the Priest class shares with the scaley specimens, wild has been the best place to give performance enhancing steroids to the olympian body builders Dragons are with Activate the Obelisk.

I generally enjoy board orientated midrange decks and this is in a similar vain of mind blast priest but rather than the late game burst, we use chip damage from being ahead on the board throughout the game. Probably less competitive, but fun to play.

This deck is strong in the current wild meta against decks such as Pirate Warrior and Secret Mage and generally any aggro. Mech paladin has avoided a burning on the ladder so far but with a strong enough start we could take them on. Deathrattle Rogue may be a problem. We can out value control reasonably consistently too. In the right hands this deck could have a decent winrate in the higher ranks.

This deck follows a mid-range game plan by simultaneously not dying and completing quest to then overwhelm our opponent on the board. Cards we always keep are Northshire Cleric, Wyrmrest Agent, and Kabal Talonpriest. For aggro they’re bodies to start locking the opponent off the board, for control they’re bodies to start healing to speed up quest completion.

Versus aggro we can follow a more control game plan due to the large amount of healing and board clears which allow us to keep our board for value trades, which with healing will also complete quest. For aggro matchups Shadow Visions gives us the flexibility to pick the suitable answer we need versus early threats. Early game board clears such as Breath of the Infinite and Duskbreaker are worth mulliganing for.

Versus control we want quest completed ASAP as it turns every minion into a threat that must be answered. Even our low cost minions are quite highly statted for their mana cost. Playing around board clears is key as we always want to be taking initiative to develop a board to eventually overwhelm the opponent. Mulligan for control matchups includes Divine Hymn to heal up for quest completion but we mainly want early game minions for big buffs/threats ASAP. Especially Northshire Cleric to snowball into victories.

The Lich King is such a great card for this deck, it provides some burn which this deck lacks to finish off opponents. Most of the Deathknight cards synergies with this deck well, self damage is generally forgiven with the healing in the deck, even the card which draws 5 and summons minions can be utilized if we didn’t draw Northshire Cleric early enough to fuel the mid/late game versus control and need to get onto the board.

Murozond the Infinite takes up the meme slot in this deck, from the rubbish priest has received in the recent expansions one of their weird legendary value cards can be used in the deck. A dragon is probably favored to take the count up to 10 to solidify the consistency of other cards in the deck. Alexstrasza is probably the competitive replacement.
