Hi Guys,
this is the deck i used to reach Legend this season. It took me about 40 games from Rank 4 (2 stars) to reach legend on December 23rd. Stats are approx. 29 wins and 10 losses, played on a mix of PC, tablet and phone.
The deck is quite straightforward to use and cards like magnetized Hot Air Balloon, Sand Breath, Blazing Battlemage, Sanctuary and Sir Finley of the Sands will help you enter snowball mode since early game.
The deck really shines in the current meta against Face Hunter, Pirate Warrior, Zoo Warlock and Handlock. It struggles against Hunter and Mage highlander decks.
Easy matchups:
Face hunter, Pirate Warrior, Zoo Warlock and really any aggro deck. You can outvalue their early game with the magnetic mechanic, Zephrys the Great and Bronze Explorer . I think I have not lost to a single Face Hunter while climbing.
Treant druid, due to lack of several AoE cards in deck, was the most challenging aggro deck to face, although I was able to win most matches.
Quest Priest and Handlock are relatively easy to beat too, just make sure to build pressure from early on.
Challenging matchups:
Deathrattle Rogue is a very interesting matchup and unless you are able to consistently apply pressure they will be able to cheese you out with buffed minions. Never buff Hot Air Balloon on coin or t2 as they will likely have a Sap.
Galakrond Shaman and Galakrond Warrior - You need to win before they pull out a fully charged Galakrond and/or have to be lucky with an Dragonqueen Alexstrasza on curve or even on turn 7 after Frizz Kindleroost.
Bad matchups:
Secret Highlander Hunter and Highlander mage decks were very hard opponents. I only encountered 2 or 3 during the climb. Lesson learned is to never use Sir Finley of the Sands vs Hunter to fish for Heal/Armor unless they are 100% an aggro deck.
Bottom line:
The deck is not a control archetype. It has no hard removal spells other than Shrink Ray, which should be used with Consecration or Dragonmaw Scorcher. The other removals come from rush minions, Zephrys the Great and Crowd Roaster.
It is rather a midrange/aggressive archetype that relies on snowballing the match with increasing board presence through Blazing Battlemage, magnetized mechs, Sir Finley of the Sands and value trades. Do not be afraid to go for face when encountering heavily defensive archetypes.
hope you enjoy this deck as much as I did while climbing.
Any decent replacement for Tirion Fordring or Crowd Roaster? This deck looks fun and competitive, thanks for sharing.
Don't bother, this deck is trash is the current meta.
Tried it, faced 4 galakrond warrior, 2 control warrior and a bunch of mage and control warlock. All almost unwinnable matchups unless you're overly lucky with early draws and they don't get anything for the first 5 turns.
I am 3-0 against Galakrond warrior today (mid legend) ... maybe instead of crying under every post about what decks are autolose after you played your 3 pathetic games go and try something out and figure its strengths. OR you can just stick to your meta decks and stop commenting on this platform.
Tirion is quite hard to replace, it is a core Paladin card. You can replace Crowd Roaster with any tech card depending on the opponents you face the most (silence, single removal, AoE, card draw..)
i don't get why the title isn't p2w paladin, it's shorter and more accurate
I don't get the point of your comment either, but yet here we are
take a look at the deck's cost
Does making a highly costed deck increase you winrate? Then a 35 Legendaries deck (thank to Prince Malchezaar) should be pretty much unbeatable.
ALL (and I can't stress it enough) Highlander decks require a ton of dust for the fact that you have to run 30 different cards and, guess what, epics and legendaries are the ones with the best effects overall.
Moreover, we're in that moment of the year in which the pool is at its peak (although we'll receive 35 more cards soon), so it's quite normal.
Look for example at the dust cost of other Highlander decks (all numbers come from Hearthstone Top Decks):
Now, this deck costs 14980 dust, so it's slightly less expensive than its Highlander fellows.
Again:
Really strong on EU ladder 10-5 so far - thanks alot! :-)
Very nice deck. Can't wait to try it when I get home.
I took Micro Mummy out and got Crystalsmith Kangor. In my opinion this has more value
I never thought I'd find a deck that could stand up to Quest Priest without going full aggro, but so far this deck stands up to everything in the meta! Unfortunately I don't have Frizz Kindleroost, but replacing her with Dragonrider Talritha seems to hold up well.
Is the new Nozdormu a good addition? Which card would you sub, if any?
I think any tech card such Mind Control Tech, Firetree Witchdoctor, Crowd Roasteretc. can be replaced with something else you like. Just keep the core highlander Paladin cards (Tirion, Alexstrasza, Zephrys, Sir Finley, etc..). Just make sure to add some higher cost card if you put the new Nozdormu
Is [card] Sir Finley of the Sands[/card] a must? I don't have card and didn't know if greatly skewed the viability of this deck.
It is a core card, hard to replace. You might try with either a low cost minion such as Crystalsmith Kangor or a silence card or any tech card that fits the decks you are facing
Been avoiding Standard ladder this month, finally found a deck I enjoy playing. 5-1 so far from rank 8.
Thanks!
Smooth deck, thanks for the list. Have you thought about including Cathedral Gargoyle?
I personally prefer Sanctuary over Cathedral Gargoyle as it's not hard to complete the sidequest and the stats are much better. I believe the two cards are very interchangeable based on your preference.
