After extensive playtesting, I've come up with the most optimal build for Reno Druid. The deck wins every time in the late game. Pulling hadronox from N'Zoth allows for such sticky boards, and the deck allows you to do this a multitude of times. The deck runs a lot of combo disrupters and offers lots of mill potential. The only card I'm not 100% sure about is Hecklebot, so that spot may fluctuate. Right now I'd easily call this deck one of the strongest in the meta. It's extremely flexible and insane in the late game.
It's biggest weaknesses are OTK decks, Bomb warrior, and Jade Shaman. There is another popular deck on the site that is also a Highlander deck and this is in no ways a copy of that deck. I've been refining this way before Highlander Druid was popularized and I feel that this current iteration is one of the strongest.
Edit 1: Removed Hecklebot. Card just wasn't good enough against aggro and my N'Zoth pool felt way too small. Added Rotten Applebuam for better N'Zoth plays.
Edit 2: Just totally revamped the deck changing 4 cards. I've re-adapted the deck to the meta, with the addition of cards like Golakka Crawler, to counter the swarm in piracy and Brann to enable additional combos to disruspt Mechathun and Control decks. I've also included the new Taunt minion in place of The Lich King, as it offers a body that can't be targeted, which is extremely useful against aggro decks (plus its reborn ability helps with N'Zoth). Finally I've added Dragonqueen Alexstrazza, who enables tons of tempo and value on 9, to help gain control of the mid-late game, before we step into our game ending combos.
Edit 3: Cut Starfall for wrath. While Starfall does help against wide boards, it often comes out to late. Wrath allows me to deal with threats earlier, has the potential for card draw, and in essence, pre-emptivaly eliminates the need for starfall.
Edit 4: Put the Lich King back at the expense of Spreading Plague. Plague is exceptional against aggro but mediocre elsewhere while the Lich King does the opposite. I'm hoping that with the other changes to the deck I can afford to put in the Lich King, near solidifying every control matchup. If the meta gets more aggresive, Plague is probably the better card.
Edit 5: Replaced Dragonqueen with Jepetto. Jepetto allows us to draw (which we don't have a ton of in this deck) while also discounting good cards in our deck.
Final Edit: AOO has released and I've made so many changes to the deck that I've decided to make a new page that I can keep up to date: https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1345700-revamped-aoo-highlander-druid
How many games did you play, because most of your issues seem like non problems.
Elise is great in virtually every single game. You don't need to be looking to combo with it. Hadronox doesn't necessarily need a combo activator to be played (especially against aggro. you just drop the body). If you're spending games trying to hold naturalize for Hadronox, you're going to lose every game. It's important to not bank on Haddy and N'Zoth combos as your sole win condition. Your goal is to simply survive as long as possible, usually resulting in a win. This deck is favored in almost every matchup out there (however disadvantaged against mech decks) but you have to utilize your cards perfectly.
If you’re really looking for draw, why not put in Harrison Jones for Gluttonous Ooze?
Because it's expensive and significantly worse against aggro (which is oozes primary purpose. It also runs the risk of overdrawing when we want to remove a weapon.
Sorry, but I find this deck much weaker than the Highlander Dragon Druid that’s currently trending. I find that our early game is too reactive. There’s very little to advance the board ourselves. The late game is too value oriented, and I spend too many turns trying to play high cost minions while our opponent plays burst turns of huge stats with things like Dragonqueen and Edwin.
Many times have I had dead cards in hand too, like Hadronox and Elise. They don’t do anything to the board without another specific card to combo. I could spend ages trying to fish out my Naturalize for Hadronox, or find the Mulch to combo with Thaurissan, but in a highlander deck that’s not gonna happen very consistently.
I've even found that N'zoth is a dead card in my hand, as I keep failing to even draw my deathrattles.
I’m personally going back to the dragon Druid deck until further notice.
Plague saved me many times with this kind of deck. Made my own version: https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1328172-druid-is-life
Your deck seems nice enough but it lacks any sort of definitive win condition. The heal package seems tacked on and while your deck may fair slightly better against aggro, I feel you're deck is at a serious disadvantage against control and combo decks.
Just Updated the whole deck. Additional updates will come once I gather more information via playtesting.
Why no Zilliax?
No place/need for it. It doesn't help our deathrattle pools and we have no mech synergy.
You can run Brann but it usually is never useful. Brann Elise is a rather pointless play, as Elise almost always fills your hand. You can already go endless with Elise + Baleful in hand. The Zephyrs play is nice but it's often not necessary and happens too rarely to be considered. Zola is fine, but you always have more then enough bounces and usually your board is full when you want to use a zola, so you wouldn't even have the mana/need for brann. You can try it if you want for Applebuam and tell me how it goes but I won't be trying it myself.
Had some good fun with this deck. Man with these Highlander decks there are sooooooooo many options the possibilities are insane!
Thanks for the spotlight man! Glad you enjoyed the deck.
What about Brann Bronzebeard i know its a little over the top but also welcome to 'value town' in combination with Zephrys the Great, Zola the Gorgon and Elise the Enlightened.....and you could possible go infinite ;)
If you use brann with zephy it gimps him cos the mana cost is higher for example at 10 mana zephy can give twisting nether to use with the remaining 8 mana
I'm using this deck now for 30bgames or more it's very strong I prefer hecklbot over rotten apllebaum
Depends. Sn1p is usually a good matchup because you have a ton of taunt minions and even if they pull of the combo, you can gain enough armor to live the next turn and sitll win. Quest Mage is really just a race to get down a taunt wall asap. You'll want to mill for your combo disrupters, but this is a tough matchup.
Nice deck +1
Does this beat sn1p-sn4p warlock and quest mage?
