Hi everyone,
I just managed to get to a legend on wild ladder for the first time. I was trying many different decks (mostly Reno decks, since I hate playing aggro), but this mix of Reno-N'Zoth-Shudderwock Shaman step up to be my favourite. The idea of the deck came from many reno decks I have seen playing against, but I made my own version which I'm really satisfied with.
Deck is built around the meta (a sh*t tons of secret mages), so there are quite a lot of healing, taunts, and of course the Eater of Secrets.
This deck does really well against all kind of aggro decks thanks to it's early taunts, which slows the game down a bit. On turn 5 you got big AoE clears such is Hagatha's Scheme and Volcano. So if you manage to stabilitaze early presure, you should be fine later.
Against control decks there many tech cards, such as Dirty Rat, Loatheb, Sylvanas Windrunner. You just need to play them carefuly and do not rush them early.
A big help is the new Zephrys the Great, which can be played both reactively or proactively, so keep that in mind and do not rush him as well. There will be many turns when you just hit your hero power and chill (or maybe do nothing, if you need clear board for next play).
Let me guys know what do you think of the deck, or, if you have any quiestons, just ask, I will try to answer ASAP :)
If you will like the deck, I will write the whole guide on it.
Small side note: Just reached level 60 with shaman and rank 5 at the same time. Now all my classes have level 60.
I still love this deck and go on for the next rank now ;-) Just changed the Eater of Secrets against Barista Lynchen, as I don't expect many secret mages at rank 5. At rank 4 I probably will change back.
Hey, thank you very much for your reply. Now I understand your thoughts about Doppelgangster and co. better. I also don't like Grumble, Worldshaker because I want to stay my minions on board (especially after N'Zoths battlecry) ;-) As I actually (!) don't meet many secret mages, I am thinking about cutting Eater of Secrets and inserting Barista Lynchen to get back Shudderwock to the hand, maybe I will give a try in the next days.
This deck list is really fun and now I have played around 30 games with this, climbing up the ladder. Just shot down two days ago a "ready" Mecha'thun Warlock, who already had discounted his cards with Emperor Thaurissan and had an empty deck -> I played three Loatheb in a row, so he could not use his Bloodbloom :-D
Oh, then get well soon!
Yeah, the Eater of Secrets is really just a tech card which can be replaced. I'm thinking of trying out White Eyes, since it synergise well with N'Zoth, the Corruptor and it shuffles some cards into your deck, so you can win fatigue game more easily.
Also, I'm trying to swap the Corpsetaker package with some other early cards. Will see how it works out :-)
Good idea with White Eyes (I also have this card). Hm, I will test a few games with Barista Lynchen and White Eyes. But I am sure, if I swap one card, then the other card would have been the better choice for the following games! ;-)
So I tried few games with Barista Lynchen and it turns out, it's way to slow to play in this aggro meta. It is better to play Bog Slosher instead, since it cost less mana and it buffs a minion a bit (you can even buff your totems if you are in need). Also I found out that Deathlord is really good early taunt with some good anti-control synergy.
I' working on a Legend rank this month, so when I'm done, I will post full guide on this deck :)
I also tried Bog Slosher too, but I think this works better when Doppelgangster is played too (will return Shudderwock to your hand then). So I cutted Bog Slosher again.
I also sent you a friend request, maybe I may spectate a few games while you are playing to learn a bit more?
I have analyzed your decklist and it seems, there is no possibility to get at least one Shudderwock back to your hand after playing him, right? There is no Doppelgangster and Zola the Gorgon cannot copy a single Shudderwock on the board, if I am not wrong. So it seems the only possibility to get back Shudderwock is using Baleful Banker first and hoping to draw the copied Shudderwock soon?
Or am I completely incompetent and just do not understand your list? I'll give you a +1 and hope for a guide as I like this decklist in general.
Edit: After a few games I think I now know a bit how to play this deck. If possible, first N'zoth, then Shudderwock (had to learn this...) and Thaurissan can help to reduce Shudderwock + Zola, so it might be possible to play both in one turn. If you have further tips, I would appreciate this very much.
Actual 6 wins and 3 losses, the last 3 wins against two taunt warriors at rank 4 and one secret mage.
I cut the Doppelgangster, since it was kinda dead card when it was at the bottom or against aggro. I think that one copy of Doppelgangster is useless, so in Reno deck it has no point. It would be better to play 2 copies of it and Grumble, Worldshaker. But I don't like that combo (it seems to be way to slow and it's really easy to counter).
You can reduce the cost of Shudderwock and/or Zola the Gorgon, Baleful Banker, so you cant cast them on the same turn. Usualy, against aggro, you don't even need more then 1 copy of Shudder. Against control, 2 copies of Shudder are just fine. There is no point of infinite Shudder since it doesn't deal face damage without Lifedrinker. Try to play it more controlish, use your Dirty Rat wisely and you should be fine. Also, keep in mind that some cards generated from Zephrys the Great have battlecries, which can be used with Shudder later on.
Taunt warrior is really hard match-up, because you can't stop him from finishim his quest and when he do so, it's hard to stay alive. I found that only way to win this match-up is trying to keep playing and copying Loatheb, so he can't clear the board with spells, and you can create some presure on board. Otherwise, it's just unlucky match-up.
It works really well this way for me. I'm at the hospital right now so I will make a guide as soon as I get out :-D
Show us your even reno shaman
Dude, that deck is piece of sh*t :-D I was just trying as many reno decks as possible.
Looks really interesting. I'll give it a shot
