Control Shaman but with Bombs as a finisher in the late game ! Get your quest going then :
- Seaforium Bomber puts 2 bombs in your opponent's deck.
- Augmented Elekk was in the deck but after some playtesting it feels like too much, 6/8 bombs against control is already enough pressure.
- Ofc, Shudderwock replays all these bombs TWICE if you have the coin or got him with Jepetto.
- more burn damage with Weaponized Wasp being able to deal 6 to the enemy face or help control the board.
- Lifedrinker is another 6 burn damage but also 6 heal to help stabilize and have time to burn our opponent through bombs.
Early game plays :
Just mulligan hard for Questing Explorer and the lackey generators. Lackeys, in addition of Weaponized Wasp are great tool to take control of the board in early game and give you the time you need to finish your quest.
Late game stabilizing tools :
- 2x Hagatha's Scheme
- 2x Earthquake
- 2x Giggling Inventor
Thx to all the feedback you guys gave on this deck so far, and if anyone else has more ideas please share them in the comment I'll be happy to talk with you about it !
---------------
Here's a gameplay video a fellow Shaman player posted on the thread if you're interested. He's take on the deck is slightly different but the core idea is the same :
After queing into 5 bomb warriors back to back and losing this deck just seems to get outvalued, you can't generate enough tempo to get ahead and push a lead and you can't get through their infinite armor and healing late game. It's essentially just a worse bomb warrior. I guess if Bomb warrior is the meta again you just tech in some mechathun option, nomi, more bounce, idk, shit's miserable. Might as well just play mechathun shaman at that point.
Yep, now that the meta has stabilized and 90% of my matches are against CW, Highlander Mage and Combo Priest, I get rekt. Nothing you can do with a classic control deck against those power houses.
Been farming arena recently, no real hope to build any kind of control shaman deck until some changes are made. I mean I still get to 45% winrate in the top 300 legend with it so it's not completely trash/horrible but yeah.
How's Barista going so far? Curious to how essential it may or may not be. Seems like a bit of overkill.
I'm debating on whether to craft it or not, I've had a lot of success so far with this deck without even needing Barista. Albeit against slower decks like Reno Hunter and Quest Druid but still.
Yeah I'm actually trying the list without her at the moment. I realized I never had time to play her correctly, and most of the time I don't even have enough space in hand to play Barista + HP anyway.
I'm also thinking about cutting one Giggling to keep on lowering the curve. I don't have Plague of Murlocs in yet, but I often find myself trying to get it from discovers so I might just add a natural one. Also trying the 7 mana rush shaman card, seems ok against very aggressive decks but bad to get from Jepetto (once again)
What are you playing instead of her ? I'm seriously considering Beaming Sidekick just to have a very cheap quest-completiong card that helps with the early game board. Or try again Bog Slosher but it has been pretty meh for me so far.
I was missing one Barista, one Earthquake and one Vulpera so I just threw in stuff I used in my other quest Shaman.
Novice Engineer, Bog Slosher, Fire Elemental, Plague of Murlocs.
All of which I actually found very useful surprisingly, as far as budget replacements go.
This deck turns into a burn deck really fast when you start piling on lackies, fire elemental and wasps on their face. Then if you need to keep burning Bog has given me so much extra damage being able to bounce Life Drinker or the 2 damage lackey or spell lackeys for more burn. Plague of Murlocs is pretty dope too just for the simple fact you can turn an underwhelming board of 2/1s and 1/1 lackeys into a board of murlocs while also essentially silencing and weakening your opponent's board.
I see ! I think I'll try Bog Slosher again tomorrow. Today I tried with the 7 mana rush guy, so far it seems pretty solid.
May I please ask, why not use Bog Slosher? Could be a good way to reuse some of the battlecries, and personally think it would fit better than certain other things, like Zilliax, who isn't really that good when trying to focus on battlecries. Doubly so if you get it from Jepetto Joybuzz.
Hey ! I'm not a fan of Bog Slosher. I've tried it in the deck but it's way too slow in my opinion. The early game is the stage of the game where you're the most vulnerable, and you clearly don't have time to sap your own minions. You need to try to survive until your AoEs / Gigglings to stabilize the board.
In the late game, you already have near infinite things you can do and you never run out of value, so doubling up one of your battlecries with Bog Slosher is really unnecessary in my opinion.
When you have exactly the curve Lackey generator into Bog against a slow deck it's good though, but I don't feel like you need more help against slow decks anyway with this variant.
For Zilliax you're right, I don't think it's a mandatory card. Fishing it with Jepetto feels bad. But it's a good tempo play that helps you survive exactly when you need to : in this awkward moment of the game between your early game and your late game, the moment when you try to make it to Gigglings/Scheme/Earthquake.
So, he's not incredible, but I definitely think it's good card, even though it doesn't synergize with the rest of the deck.
Thank you for your response. I definitely see your point about Bog Slosher when you put it like that, and have removed it from my deck since.
As for Zilliax, I'm trying to make use of [/card]Siamat[card] instead, since I got him in a pack, and he's been working well so far for the late game, or more early on, if I can't wait for the quest. I'll keep Zilliax in mind though, in case health starts to become an issue.
Unfortunately I didn't open Siamat and I'm super short on dust ! You really like him in the deck ? I was thinking about trying Storm Chaser instead of Zilliax today, since I feel you almost always need your big AoE to stabilize at some point.
edit : also, maybe I'm wrong about Bog and it's one of the best cards in the deck xD I see many people including it in theirs, but it's usually faster versions so idk
Pop your hero power after the quest, and Siamat have Taunt, Windfury, Divine Shield, and Rush. And even without, a rush windfury 6/6 for 7 mana can really save your behind. :) I like having him around.
As for Storm Chaser, I considered it, but often I don't find that getting some of your AoE spells are all that hard. Might just be relative luck though.
And well... If I were to remove a couple of things for Bog Slosher, I honestly would take out the 2 Seaforium Bomber's. I often find they are just too darn slow, even late game, as you have stronger Battlecries to put out on the battlefield, and this one will cost 7 mana for only a potential effect later on. Often it just sits in my hand, wasting space. Great if you get a 1/1 copy of it, but otherwise, not working for me unfortunately.
This deck rocks! I was wondering...would it be worth it to include Elysiana?
That's what I'm trying to figure at the moment. I haven't enough games against Warrior to be sure, but so far it seems like you can finish the game before that point. Especially if you cast Shudderwock twice or more (just had a game against warrior with a 1-cost Shudder, I could play HP + Shudder + Barista giving me two more Shudders, was pretty insane)
Nothing More Satisfying that Out Bombin a Bomb Warrior, pretty fun deck list
I know right ? Killing a Warrior with bombs is the best feeling of this expansion so far haha
Running something similar to the current version of this deck, and I think it's almost there in terms of optimization for a Control Battlecry Shaman list.
Giggling Inventor has been on the bubble for this list, and I have yet to find a time when it's been a game changing card for me to play. In fact, I rarely every actually played it. Since it's purpose is control, I replaced 2x Giggling Inventor with 2x Plague of Murlocs. Sometimes the AoE's aren't enough when going up against Quest Paladins or Summon Mages, but comboing an AoE with a Plague of Murlocs is a guaranteed board clear.
I also replaced the 2x Questing Explorer with 2x Novice Engineer. The former is a dead draw once the quest is complete whereas Novice Engineer can be used to draw two cards post-quest completion. I don't see the size of the body making a big enough impact to warrant the late game dead draw.
The last card I'm unsure of is Zilliax in this list. It's hard to tell what his most common purpose is when I'm playing the card. I think replacing him with Siamat is something to consider, or possibly a better healing option if that ends up being the main purpose for running the card.
This list is shaping up nicely, and I get the sense that Shaman is going to either run an ultra aggro or ultra control list over any sort of midrange battlecry/quest build.
Hi thx for your feedback !
Yes I agree about the ultra aggro / ultra control way of building the quest. At least when I try to build it midrange, I end up with a 0 spell version that has no catch-up mecanism, and it's very hard to recover from a lost board, even with double battlecries. I haven't tried yet an Overload package in that, but it feels like adding 8/10 cards that have 0 synergy with the quest isn't the best idea.
I personally like a lot Giggling Inventor in the list. HP + that is often like if you casted a frost nova this turn, and the following turn as well ; it can help gain a turn or two if you need your Scheme to grow bigger ; it can also help damaging a mid-sized board to then cast a double Sandstorm Elemental to finish it. And when you're in real trouble, having divine shield taunts popping out of your shudder can be salvation.
The thing about Plague of Murlocs that I don't like is that you often still need to AoE again after using it. I think it's very powerfull in the exact situation of Moutain Giant + Conjurer, but beside that almost anything you'd want to clear would die to an Earthquake anyway. I can see running one, as it's also good against the big board quest priest / quest druid can do, but 2 seems too situational in my opinion.
For the Questing Explorer / Novice Engineer debate : I can see your point, and I'm still not sure about which one to run. But here's my thought about this choice : The extra stat line does matter in the early game, it's the moment of the game when you need to not fall too dramatically behind. It helps a lot controling the early board alongside lackeys and sandstorms. And when you reached the late game, I personally find that you don't even have hand-size to draw anymore. You can generate soooo many lackeys, Barista them, replay them, + the Vulpera Scoundrel. Sometimes I don't even Hero Power because I would just burn cards !
Also, do you play Elysianna ? I haven't faced enough Warriors yet to figure out if it's needed in the match-up or if you can win without her.
Changed the deck again. From all the variations I tried, I always felt like I was playing from being trying to catch up on board, so I think building it in a very control way is nice.
I cut the Elekk, which was indeed feeling like too much. Just the 2 bombers, without Barista/Shudder shenanigans, are on their own 20 damage. It's already a lot of pressure in a Control Mirror, and it helps finishing games without giving the opponent infinite time to play (worked really great today against quest/nomi druid and quest priest)
I went back to full AoE, because I felt you can be so much behind sometimes. 2 Schemes and 2 Earthquake helps a lot, and Earthquake is particularly insane. Also included double Sandstorm Elemental : I'm not quite sure about this one yet but it helps when you need to clean a low hp board without spending the Earthquake you have in hand.
Cut the Fountain, doesn't fit the deck much even if sometimes you could use the heal.
Double Vulpera, I love it. You can discover more aoes when you need it, healing, or just a lightning bolt. Very versatile and very solid statline for what it does.
I made some changes to the deck but since Control Shaman was my favorite deck from the last expansion I had to give this a try. Great deck can't wait to play it more.
