Clarification: This deck is no deck you ladder with, this deck is something you switch to if you only (>80%) face control decks. Against Aggro it just don't cut it, but against handlock you can burn so many cards it's not even funny. With that said have fun with the deck.
With the latest addition through Gnomes vs Goblins mill decks could finally be less gimmicky and maybe somewhat competive.
The main goal of a mill deck is to fill your opponents hand with cards he can't use and burn additional cards he draws over the ten card handlimit. Ten cards in hand also means Clockwork Giant costs only 2 mana for a 8/8. 6 or more cards mean Goblin Sapper is a 6/4 for 3 mana.
The Draw:
This deck can force your opponent to draw 12-16 cards extra.[ Naturalizex2 (4), Coldlight Oraclex2 (8)+bounce with Youthful Brewmasterx2 (12), Dancing Swordsx2 (14) and Grove Tenderx2 (16).
An additional way to fill your opponents hand is provided through King Mukla (2cards) and Mechanical Yetix2 (1 card each). Both also serve as great bodies for the mana costs.
Combos:
Naturalize into Clockwork Giant
Coldlight Oracle+ Youthful Brewmaster
Dancing Swords,Grove Tender and Deathlord to thin out the deck even further.
Goblin Sapper and Clockwork Giant to actually profit of that cards in your oppenents hand.
Troggzor the Earthinator and Loatheb to make your opponent think twice about playing the spells you generously let them draw.
Malorne for infinite lategame pressure + taunts to get there
Possible additions:
The deck is made with no specific meta in mind. We'll wait and see how that shapes and can make adjustments to fit in. If you want to make your own changes the first cards to swap are probably Deathlord and Wrath
Tree of Life/ Healing Touch/ Ancient Healbot
More Giants are never bad, so two Mountain Giants is actually a nice Idea
Not sure about Jeeves but probably not worth it. If your opponent is down below 3 cards things are all going against you and you probably lose.
Thanks to a comment from user galuf, Elite Tauren Chieftain is now on the list of possible additions. I didn't even think of it.
All the tech cards Spellbreaker, The Black Knight, BGH and Sylvanas Windrunner etc. are meta dependend and we need to see when to fit them in.
If you try this deck and make your opponent burn his legendarys make sure to share your best plays with us in the comments.
Deathlord has ruined my games more often then not.
yea, i always have bad luck with deathlord as well. have had opponents get ragnaras on turn 4, war charge legendary, the druid 8/8 taunt, etc.
I added 1 Recycle to the deck. It is a good piece of late game removal, if you exhausted your Naturalize early. And if their hand is still full, you may burn an important Minion.
Elite Tauren Chieftain is actually an awesome addition I didn't think of because i don't have it. 5/5 Body, +1 card in hand, even a draw if someone gets Rogues Do It.... I'll include it in the possible additions section, thank you. But I think i would rather sub out a Deathlord than a Yeti, looks better for the curve.Only bad thing it does is increase the crafting costs of the deck.
I run Elite Taurea Chieftain in my Druid Mill Deck. He has won me a few games. Rogues Do It... Helps mill the deck and I am Murloc is easily dealt with using Swipe. Add on that he is 5/5, great addition.
I would sub out Troggzor, in my opinion.
Any deck that trolls your opponents by milling them is a +1 in my book.
Me, wondering if I should play Hearthstone again because of the new cards. I see the worth 'mill' and I'm sold.
Has any1 tried this deck out? What are your experiences with it. Is it worth crafting? Or do you believe there are better mill deck variants out there? What has your success rate been and against which decks?
I've been playing something very close to it. Been getting positively murdered by aggro, but it seems legit scary against control. I've taken out the clockwork giant and Malorne because I haven't experienced anything close to needing them in games that lasted long enough for them to be a factor. In place of Troggzor (which I don't have), Clockwork Giant, Malorne, and the Goblin Sappers (which I don't like), Ive been running a Tree of Life, 2x Mark of the Wild, Healing Touch, and a floater (right now he's Lorewalker Cho, but that's gimmicky; I think I'll swap for a sludge belcher).
Can't imagine it's the sort of deck that will ever get someone to legendary, but I could see it in tournament sniping situations against control, seriously.
I made a very similar deck last night, only about 4 cards different. I went 6-3 through ranks 19-17. Haven't wanted to work on my rank until GvG came out. I will try and test this deck at the 10-5 Rank range , this weekend.
I just created this account to say I freaking love you Gravehound! My dream was to play a mill deck and, as I dont have all the cards in this I got the base and did my own variation, but as you can see for my excitement, it worked and I love you!
Thank you :) Can't wait to try it myself on live when it finally releases in EU.
Sadly the Devs confirmed that Baron Rivendare won't work with Malorne. So that leaves Mechanical Yeti and Dancing Swords (and Deathlord but we don't want to trigger that twice). I don't think that are enough cards to get him a spot.
It's amazing how Naturalize and Dancing Swords are actually the right call for this deck.
I do have misgivings about the Death Lords but that's going to ultimately be a meta call. Outstanding versus aggro of course. In a world where aggro is this deck's only bad match up, maybe deathlord is good enough.
Other than a few weak links, I think this deck is very much complete. Nice work.
Thank you but ofcourse the meta calls will change it a bit when that settles.
Mill decks will always have trouble against aggro decks, because you will just be filling their hand and they can easily dump all their cards, so I think it's a pretty good inclusion. Mill is always better vs control cause they cant get rid of cards fast enough, typically.
Thanks for this. Gonna be annoying people with this in EU tomorrow.
Good deck, but I think rogue is still better for mill with shadowstep, vanish and sap
(and possibly the new legendary)
Druid got Malorne and Grove Tender. Rogue got nothing.
I just don't see how this deck is going to work against agro?
