Hello Hearthpwn!
Handbuff is back! I've been playing versions of Handbuff Paladin ever since Mean Streets, even taking it to legend twice. Now with the rotation it's time for a new iteration! This version feels a bit different than what you expect, as it feels like a hybrid of midrange and combo. Expect this list to change a ton as the meta settles. I'll do my best to keep this page updated with the most current decklist I am running. Cheers!
*June 10th Update: THE MECHONING HAS COME! Made some tweaks to the deck that take advantage of the recent buffs while preserving the spirit of the deck. You still aim to win through OTK, but now you've got mechs and extra draw to get you there. Will continue to tinker.
P.S. RIP Hearthpwn. :(
~ General Strategy ~
The core plan of the deck is as follows:
- Fill your hand with minions using Crystology, Acolyte of Pain, and Countess Ashmore
- Buff them all with Glowstone Technician
- Get even more Glowstone Technician using Baleful Banker and Barista Lynchen
- Murder your opponent with huge minions (specifically Leeroy Jenkins and Stormwind Knight)
The rest of the deck is minions that capitalize on the buffs (such as Zilliax, Ghostly Charger, and Annoy-o-Module), and cards to disrupt/neutralize your opponent's threats (such as Aldor Peacekeeper. Big Game Hunter, and Spellbreaker). The deck also includes the super fun Oondasta + Shirvallah, the Tiger combo for a big turn 9 swing.
~ Mulligan Guide ~
Crystology (hard mulligan for this) |
Glow-Tron (always keep 1) |
Spellbreaker (keep vs. Hunter and Paladin) |
SN1P-SN4P (always keep) |
Aldor Peacekeeper (always keep 1) |
Acolyte of Pain (throw it back) |
Bronze Gatekeeper (throw it back) |
Annoy-o-Module (throw it back) |
Big Game Hunter (keep 1 vs Mage) |
~ Key Cards ~
The Buffs |
The core of the deck is using Glowstone Technician to turn your normal minions into game-ending threats. Barista Lynchen and Baleful Banker are here mostly to double up on the buffs.
|
|
The Cavalry |
Shirvallah, the Tiger |
This deck is stuffed full of Rush and Charge minions so that you can reclaim the board after you lose in in the early turns. They also act as your burst to close the game out.
|
The Neutralizers |
Barista Lynchen |
These cards are all meant to mess with your opponent's gameplan so that your cards can shine. Barista Lynchen and Baleful Banker also let you get extra copies as needed.
|
The Survival |
Shirvallah, the Tiger |
You need taunts and heals to keep yourself alive. These cards should be enough to help you stabilize through most aggression.
|
The Card Draw
|
Countess Ashmore |
These cards help you keep your hand full. The main powerful draw engine for the deck is Countess Ashmore, who consistently draws you 2-3 cards. Baleful Banker can be combined with Barista Lynchen for when you need to go long.

Let's play some Hearthstone together! JoeyJojo48#1451, Americas :)
Thanks for another Buff deck. I love these. I often try to create my own.
I find the Divine Shield and/or Charge minions particularly deadly. Especially a buffed Leeroy Jenkins. Might not be able to fit that in this deck though.
I've never liked the bluegill guys, and losing a divine shield minion for it feels weird. But I'll try it. Maybe a Vicious Scalehide could provide some early board/heals, heals later better if buffed? No charge though.
Since you make a lot of paladin decks: How come most paladin decks I find hardly use Blessing of Wisdom? Seems like such an easy return on investment. Even if you cast it on the other player's minions it still works for you. Sometimes I'd use it to get them to stop attacking.
Greeting! Thanks for your comment!
I'm still tweaking/tinkering with the rush/charge package in the deck. Bluegill Warrior is what I settled on for now but honestly there's a very real chance it'll get replaced since it's so low-impact without the buffs. Leeroy Jenkins is one I'm highly considering right now, as well as Vicious Scalehide (although with that one I may have to rethink the Shirvallah, the Tiger/Oondasta package).
As for Blessing of Wisdom, I also like that card. I think it doesn't often make the cut since deck space is so starved, but I think it's often underrated. I think if I ever revise the draw package in the deck it would be a card I'd consider.
