Yesterday I got from Rank 10 to 5 in just couple of hours with this version Rush Warrior. This deck performs very well, and I want to share with Warrior players.
I personally believe that Rush Warrior only gets stronger after the upcoming nerfs are live. So better start practicing it :)
There is a deck-show case video at the end of this guide, not played by me, but you can see the deck in action!
Play style:
Just like all the Rush Warrior, it's very similar to the old Tempo Warrior. Get the board, make efficient trades if needed, overwhelm your opponent. This deck destroys any Mecha'thun Decks thanks to Mojomaster Zihi, it goes toe-to-toe with Odd Rogue and from my experience the favor is on Warrior's side because of the unfair Rush Trades and Scourgelord Garrosh. This deck beats also Hunters, Priests, Odd Paladins, Zoo-lock. So yea, it's pretty much a meta-killer.
Muligan priorities:
1. Kelseth
2. Town Crier + Eternium robot... and ONLY If you're against Paladin: Blood Razor weapon.
3. Frothing Berserker
Few key card explanation:
Spirit of the Rhino
Use this card wisely, this is one of the major strength of this deck, but don't muligan for this. With this on board you can forexample use Inner Rage on Zilliax for boosted heal and your Zilliax keeps his Divine shield because he doesn't receive damage.
So this is a really frustrating card for your opponent to deal with.
Sudden Genesis
This card does actually surprising well in this deck. You can use it with Kor'kron Elites + Inner Rage for an alternative finnisher.
But it gets even better when you can use Sudden Genesis on an Akali buffed minion. When that happens, victory is most likely to you.
A tip: Don't hold this card for too long, sometimes it's better to just use it, instead of waiting for Kor'kron Elites. Multiplying from just 2 to 4 minions is usually just good enough.
Inner Rage
Activate Grommash like the old days, the 0 mana makes it very flexible card. In this deck the attack damage is very useful for cards like Akali (overkill), Darius to make the kill. But also easy to to pull of a nice Sudden Genesis, multiplying Kor'kron Elites, Frothing, Hulks or whatever you wish.
Festeroot Hulk
Nice synergy with Rush minions, and nice target for Sudden Genesis. You can see this as big brother of Frothing Berserker, just like Frothing this is a minion your opponent can't really ignore.
Mojomaster Zihi
This is the OTK killer, this is the new version of Loatheb, in this meta, Mojomaster Zihi is actually even better than Loatheb, it kinda delays Mecha-thun for 3-4 more turns, which is unacceptable for Mecha-thun players... definitely a must have if you hate playing against OTK decks.
Sul'thraze
Nice weapon, can be used to buff Frothing Berserker, but also 16 face damage. Super Collider is alternative, but makes the deck slower. Neither of them are inferior in this deck if you ask me, but you definitely have trade-off.
Countess
There is no Acolyte in this deck, so Countess Ashmore is a nice addition to refill your empty hand abit.
Grommash Hellscream
Irreplaceable. Grommash is a 10-13 damage finnisher. it's this deck's game-ender. It's the last minions your opponent usually see before the game is over.
Scourgelord Garrosh
Garrosh has a very nice synergy with Grommash and Frothing. The board clear is a game-winner, this card prevents you from losing the board control, a very flexible card because even if there is no board to clear, 12 face damage is nice to have. And Warrior's basic hero-power is actually pretty useless in this deck, especially in "minion-combat deck" a whirlwind is much more useful, so it's never too early to play this card.
Match ups:
Favorable: Any OTK Mecha-thun, Beast Hunter, Spell Hunter, Priest, Odd Rogue, Odd Paladin, Zoo-lock
Not favorable: Mage with Jaina, Taunt Warrior, Control Warlock and of course most important one: bad muligan.
Not favorable doesn't mean you auto-lose to them, it means it's most difficult one... but you CAN definitely win.
Video deck showcase (by @kiwiiNbacon)
Another deck showcase (by @Tommy_Wave)
Neither of the videos are done by me, but both players using the exact same decklist, so you can see the deck in action :)
No TRUE board clear here, which idk why so many decks aren't running board clears in this meta. Also, this deck has lost every time to taunt priest.... rough.
It's the enemy who needs to use the board-clears, not the Rush Warrior.
This is a Tempo deck, not a Control deck, so no board-clears except for Scourgelord, which can be used for offensive face-damage.
I haven't played HS for 4 weeks, but I guess it's time to Rank up again after the reset. I tuned this deck before Wall Priest was a thing but I'm sure there are ways to counter Wall Priest (Black Knight)...
After all, Tempo Warrior winrates are still high enough to quickly reach Rank 5+.
@OP curious why you think this gets better with the nerfs
Even Paladin got nerfed into the ground (which I first considered as a counter to this deck), Shaman another Tempo "rival" is nerfed.
Hunter got nerfs too, but it wasn't unfavored against this Tempo Warrior. But nice nerf from Rush Warrior perspective.
In short, all the decks that tried to dominate the mid-game got nerfed, allowed Rush Warrior to remain untouched, with zoolock, odd paladin.
I feel like 1 or 2 Battle Rages would work well in this deck. Maybe instead of Countess Ashmore ?
Keleseth doesn't allow you to add a 2 mana cards in this deck, but if you're using a Rush wood axe build, yea Battlerage could be an option, or Forge of Souls.
Oh, yeeaah I forgot about Kele good point.
im using Acolyte of Pain instead and doing well , and also this can work without [card]Sul'thraze[/card] or [card]Mojomaster Zihi[/card]
this deck is incredible. I got 8 rank from 20 in a day and can climb higher. (I am 20th rank in the standard because basically I play wild format). Excellent deck, thanks, she made me love the standard format again.
Fun deck. I swapped Dr. Boom Mad Genius for Scourgelord and have had positive results.
very interesting deck + playstyle, unfortunately maaany legendaries included :( is there a way for good cheap exchanges ?
I'm interested in this deck style because I just got lucky with Akali, the Rhino !! I also have my good old friend Grommash Hellscream from early days and also Prince Keleseth - I would say, I have some dust for 1-2 epics, have the rares of your list, but besides that, rather limited resources (unless you would count Gorehowl as a viable replacement for Sul'thraze because I have this weapon already since years...).
Thanks for help !
if you could use other cards instead of the good ones, theyd be the ones used. go play a deck thats more suited to your poverty status instead.
Not sure why you got downvoted into oblivion, but there are always replacements for expensive cards, just have to think about what you want when you replace it. Budget versions of rush warrior exist, and they can get you to rank 5 as long as you put the time in. Vicious Fledgling can be a good addition to this deck if you're missing a few legendaries/epics. Acolyte of Pain is also a good replacement for draw cards like Countess Ashmore or even Town Crier, especially in this deck because it runs Blood Razor and Scourgelord Garrosh. You're not going to get the same results, but the idea is the same. Fungalmancer or even Bonemare are also strong cards that you can plug into a missing slot here too. Hope this helps. Good luck, ignore the haters.
:( Sorry, I didn't intended to make expensive deck, it was just a deck I used to climb fast as possible with Rush Warrior.
If you have Prince Keleseth and Grommash you can pretty much play a very similar deck.
You can replace Sul'thraze with Super Collider and if none of them are an option, try it with Arcanite Reaper instead. I personally think Gorehowl is little too slow, I see Gorehowl more of a replacement of Scourgelord Garrosh.
The purpose of Sul'thraze is to pressuring your opponent, dealing 4 damage and having a minion like Kor'kron or Festering Hulk is a really bad situation for your opponent. Sul'thraze is also good as emergency health "inefficient" boardclear.
lmao
many thanks for the nice and helpful recommendations, hiko and TrueHorde ! I adapted the original decklist with some of the mentioned cards and the deck plays very nice ! I also found out that I had a Muck Hunter in my collection, as well as the good old Leeroy Jenkins ! since the adds only have one health, either they don't matter at all ("Finish him !") or they simply get blown away from the Blood Razor effect ! :)
Awesome, love This deck!
Love Rush Warrior.
I play something spiritually similar but with a lot of changes. It's essentially the same as yours though, maybe a flavour difference.
I run less charge minions but have Oondasta Charged Devilsaur combo in there for added pressure.
I don't run Frothing Berzerkers or Sudden Genesis but take Dead Man's Hand Dr. Boom, Mad Genius
Mine's irrrelevant after rotation though. Good stuff mate
A fun an interesting deck here! Feels great against other board-focused midrange lists. Played a few games with it, check them out;
(Games start at 6:40)
Warrior is such an expensive class to play. $16k dust is a joke!
Every deck seems to be at least 10k +++
