Total Deck Rating

Hi, my name is ChoirBoy and I've been playing Hearthstone since beta. Although I've only reached Legend once, I've always reached at least rank 5 and in my mind I'm a decent enough player. I've always really enjoyed playing Control decks (my most played class is Priest after all) and this deck has for me been an absolute pleasure.
This is the deck that's been carrying my winstreak ever since the launch of RR, with basically no alterations since I created it. The ability to run 2-cost Brewmaster and spell-package instead of 4-cost and call to arms really helps the lategame and I haven't really noticed that big of a hit to the drawpower of the deck. During the month of December my winrate ended at 71% playing in rank 5 to 2. My stats were at that point 17 wins - 7 losses.
I've really enjoyed the different Deathknight OTK Paladin lists ever since they first were invented. What this deck does differently to the other lists is its' sole focus on surviving. You don't care about attacking, you don't care about their life total, all you care about is not dying and assembling your pieces to kill them. My inspiration for this deck came from the OTK Holy Wrath decks that were popping up at the start of the expansion. I really enjoyed their shell, and adopted it into a normal OTK Paladin.
UPDATE:
Still at 71% :P Made some small alterations. Works really well for me still!
Tips and tricks:
If you're starting second, always keep the coin, don't use it for nothing besides killing your opponent. Coin with Blackwald Pixie means you only need 2 Horsemen in hand.
If you're facing any kind of control deck, just don't do anything. Don't attack, just draw your cards and only play things to empty your hand. Clear their board when possible or if needed.
Against Spell Hunter, try to avoid playing into Baited Arrow. Never attack into their Secrets unless you absolutely need to. Clear their boards, but always keep something against Zul'jin.
Odd card choices:
Shrink Ray - I love Shrink Ray and have ever since it was released. Since this deck is basically doubling down on the OTK, all you need to worry about is surviving. Shrink Ray gives you in a sense another board clear. Shrink Ray also works really well with Youthful Brewmaster, since you can squeeze it in along with a Hero Power.
Hammer of Wrath - I choose this instead of something like Truesilver Champion for a few reasons. Firstly, it's a spell for your loa. Second, it draws you a card, making up for the draw power lost from Call to Arms. Thirdly, against Spell Hunter it's a removal that doesn't require an attack. This keeps their secrets from popping.
Crystology - I've always liked the consistancy provided by Crystology. This is probably a personal choice more than anything, but it's a cheap spell for Pyromancer and against aggro it fetches you good anti-aggro cards like Righteous and Stonehill.
Exclusions:
The troll champion - I'm a free to play player, so I've got to be really picky about what to craft. If I had this guy, I would probably try him.
Lynessa - I've never liked her, and to fit her in, I would need to add Potion of Heroism aswell. Maybe you could do a version with Potion instead of Crystology and add her in. I simply don't like her weakness to silence.
Ancient Brewmaster - To expensive and bad if played on his own. Ancient Brewmaster has always felt like a necessary evil in the OTK Paladin decks. I think Youthful is miles better, and a big reason why I went with the spell package.
Mulligan:
Aggro - Search for Righteous Protector, Wild Pyromancer, Stonehill Defender. If you've got Wild Pyromancer, search for cheap spells and Equality. If you're playing against minion based aggro AND you've got Righteous Protector, search for Consecration as well.
Control -Uther of the Ebon Blade! Keep all draw. Hammer of Wrath, Crystology, Thalnos, Flash of Light.
If playing anything besides Control, just mulligan for survival basically. Control decks are practically free wins.
Will potentially expand guide if needed.
Thanks for reading!
I can only craft one of these legendary s what should I craft and replace ?? the crystalsmith or thekal
I'd craft Thekal! :)
.
So I played a few games with it, and it's true that lack of card draw is a pretty big issue. I mean, pulling Stonehill Defenders is nice for defense, but it doesn't move your gameplan forward. Also, the addition of Blackwald Pixie is pretty clunky. Half of the time it's a dead/bad card (w/o coin), the other half you're in a difficult position of NOT wanting to play the coin, which is sometimes very hard.
I still prefer other top tier versions of the deck.
Thanks for the feedback, you bring up valid points. I'm gonna start experimenting with different versions of this, I've been scared to change it because it's been going so well.
I've been thinking of replacing Stonehill Defender for Acolyte of Pain for this specific reason I'll update with how that goes. Blackwald Pixie is a card I really like, that gives you weird outs where you couldn't them otherwise, but it's true that those scenarios are probably fringe at best. I will try to run Thekal instead perhaps, or something similiar.
Thanks again!
Ziliax is a fair option, but I would suggest adding Novice Engineer instead as one of the great things about Thalnos is that it gets drawn by Crystology and additionally draws you another card. :)
Thalnos is not rotating this year.
However, could be HOFed, but i don't think he will go to the Hall of fame.
It's a safe craft, strong and used a lot in control deck.
With your feedback his deck would become exactly like the rest of OTK decks out there. I think his goal is to suggest something with a different angle. Whether it's better or worse is another topic.
Lynessa Sunsorrow would get pulled from Crystology, which would be pretty terrible in the early game, especially when facing aggro.
You really should be running Call to Arms on a deck like this, the utility is just too much to pass, you don't only thin your deck out but you REALLY thin your deck out by not only picking 3 minions out but also getting Hoarders and Thalnos out so you draw a lot more, also cards like Potion of Heroism and Flash of Light are just way better than Hammer of Wrath as they provide better utility than just damage.
This deck is perfect if you cut all those bad cards and play the bigger pandas so you can play CTA and also play a Lynessa draw package, that thing is just a bummer for aggro to remove and it gets you closer to your combo as it draws you 2 extra cards (Possibly 3 if you target a minion with the heal), you're actually just playing a bunch of sub-par cards that do nothing or can be replaced with a something that's simply better.
It looks like you've tried to build the Holy Wrath OTK list, but then you realised something and switched to OTK DK halfway through. Running Crystology instead of Call to Arms, Youthful Brewmaster instead of Ancient, and a couple other weird additions like Shrink Ray and Hammer of Wrath. I haven't tried this deck yet, so maybe it is actually really good, but it looks like you've tried to make OTK DK Paladin with a Holy Wrath Paladin shell.
That's basically what I've done. I found the spell package ran by Holy Wrath Paladin really intruiging and really liked that it allowed me to play Youthful Brewmaster instead of Ancient Brewmaster. It's working wonders for me!
Nice revision!
Very well worth swapping out a Time Out! For Lynessa. It's good against all the board threats and such.
Crystology is so much better then call to arms. Pyromancer is such a key removal card. And for it to be thrown out onto the board at random is just bad. I run the holy wrath and bankers version of this deck to keep things interesting.
73% = random % to clickbait?
Nah, it ended up being 71%, but the my W/L ratio at the end of december was 17-7 and going steady at that same pace so far.
-2 Hammer
-2 Crystology
+ 2 Call to arms
+2 Ancient Brewmaster
But call to arms also triggers Youthful Brewmaster wish you need for your combo?
I think Call to Arms is realy strong and that card makes the real otk deck op
I was running the other main list, and now I’ve been trying this one. I’ve noticed less card draw.
I will keep trying but I’m 0-4 with this.
