If you want a deck which is slightly better at mid game board presence and otherwise less of a win condition than OTK pally look no further!
This deck tries to take a game to fatigue where you outvalue basically any deck with OP 2 drops and exponentially (-ish but not really) growing undatakah armour. Undatakah gains previous deathrattles from immortal prelate, leading to plated beetle armour stacking up on it giving you 10-20 armour each time it dies once you have played it a few times.
Its basically a worse, memeyer OTK paladin that I have used to beat top tier decks a whole load slower than OTK pally would. Maybe slightly better vs aggro?
Improvements/Changes (Version 2):
Tracking a 75% win rate on my climb from rank reset so far. Almost undefeated against hunters (6W/1L). Most losses come from priest but it seems unavoidable unfortunately, managed to beat one topsy turvy priest by baiting removal and making a taunt wall his APM was insufficient against.
I have changed the deck to include a more tempo oriented mid game that focuses on killing the opponent a bit quicker and more reliably. I think this improves the hunter matchup considerably and helps vs other control decks.
Blessing of kings vs sound the bells: I prefer sound the bells for its additional combo synergy with wild pyro and being able to be far more flexible with buffs and trading up. Switch these around at your own discretion.
Acolyte of pain vs crystology: Acolyte is a natural fit and helps the deck get a lot of mid game consistency and at worst slows down their early game and provides another silence target. Having minions on board is nice.
Deathrattle flex spot: I am using mechano-egg as a one off right now as it seems to just be a good card that people don't like to kill (giving a good steed target) so does suprisingly well vs aggro and control. Other options include additional draw (crystology) or a more defensive card like rotten applebaum.
Augmented Elek vs Faceless manipulator: Both perform similar functions, one is a far better tempo choice (you get something on the board) and less random or highrolly. Pick the faceless, Elek was a mistake to include over it.
This refinement is about as far as I can take the deck I feel. I have had a very solid win rate across the board and only seem to lose to Random BullshitTM , typically including discovering multiple additional silence or transform effects through deathknights or unfortunate midgame draws. The usual priest and fast combo decks are still the bane of this deck so don't play if your local meta heavily features them.
Tips:
-It's important to get taunt on your prelates and undatakah as soon as possible, consider if you can get away with leaving a board up if it means buffing/taunting your prelates.
-Call to arms can sometimes be better saved for the end game, letting you draw your pyromancers naturally and getting power spike turns of multiple buffed prelates.
-Try and play Undatakah before you have played prelate too many times. The nature of the deck means that you will slowly reduce the chance that you get plated beetle as an additional deathrattle on the Undatakah.
-Augmented elek lets you duplicate your highest buffed immortal if you are low on buffs.
You also get consistently powerful call to arms which is nice.
Videos and gameplay:
I would like to draw peoples attention to this game (https://hsreplay.net/replay/qGcLAny48A82RLsRELgTAh) against a control priest that ended up going the distance. 41 minutes long, 40 turns, Hakkar and 4 amaras later I ended up winning with 140 armour spare. Really shows how you can go the distance against priest (if they don't have psychic scream for some reason).
Thanks to Kiwiinbacon for the video! see it here:
Switched some things out and had one of my best games against a taunt druid who was trying to do the same with Undatakah. In the end Uther won me the game. Here is the replay if you are interested: https://hsreplay.net/replay/m9eGLUaE9qchpywGx89FxL
What an epic game man, congrats on winning it. You made Val'anyr look like a core card there in the long grindy matchups, I might consider crafting it even though its rotating out in a few months.
Yeah in a lot of matchups it's just to greedy/slow, but in control games its so much value and normally a must silence for the opponent. You can gain so much value out of it and with prelates you don't run out of minions in your hand and always have a minion to buff. Definitely a really satisfying card if you can make it work.
Someone please explain to me how in the hell the Plated Beetle's armour is meant to stack? If Undertakah only gets 2 prelates and a beetle, the interactions will only yield 3 armour and a shuffle with potentially a Ridge taunt upon death?
What am I missing here? I do not see how you can stack armour with the beetles since they are not recursive by nature.
The trick is that the immortal prelate keeps ANY enchantment, including previous deatrattles the undatakah has gained as a part of his battlecry. This means that when you are playing it every turn you gain all the previous battlecries deathrattles (from every time you have played him before this game) and 3 additional deathrattles on top. While this rarely matters in this meta it gives you a significant source (one game I had somewhere between 30 and 40 armour gained each time he died) of life gain that I can struggle to put in the deck in any other way. Shirvalla is nice burst heal but not enough often against other control decks.
Thanks for the response.
I am not sure what you mean by the prelate keeping any buffs. I've had many games where they were buffed via ridge, kings and bells etc. but they do not produce armour and the undatakah gains their deathrattle (after they've died) but he only seems to shuffle himself without having any of the other buffs? This is the interaction I am confused about. Does he need to die twice before he starts getting himself as a deathrattle or what is the trick to getting him to stack these buffs because I've never managed to get more than 3 armour and a shuffle out of him despite him copying buffed prelates with ridge etc. so I am not sure where I am going wrong.
Yeah there is actually some sort of weirdness going on with the second and only the second time you play the undatakah (as far as I can tell, need more testing). In my experience it's a bit buggy and you don't get all the deathrattles the second time but after that it works perfectly. I submitted a bug report to blizzard about it a week or so ago.
The second part of your question is a small misunderstanding. He does not keep the buffs from other prelates, rather becomes a larger prelate with additional deathrattles and the ability to gain more deathrattles and retain his own buffs going on. Every additional prelate deathrattle after the first he gains is a waste. I will update this deck with a slightly different version I now prefer, it has a couple of extra deathrattles for more value through undatakah.
Very rough deck to play with after rank 5. Deathrattle Hunters and OTK Priests will walk all over you while you try to get the cards you need.
Absolutely agreed, there a ton of basically impossible matchups, especially basically every form of priest (well basically psychic scream is dominant vs this strategy). Deathrattle hunter is tricky if they draw really well, but with good planning I have about 40% win rate vs it. That deck is just insane vs any form of control right now anyway.
The worst is when they randomly have 2 spellbreakers in their deck, discover one from a random stitched tracker and get two with DK hero power. Still salty about that, I managed to bait out the first two then basically went all in.
I'm basically treading water at rank 4/5 playing it. I think there are highly polarised matchups but at least aggro seems pretty much fine with average draws.
Can it find some place for Zola? It works really good with Tiger. True comeback
You could cut elek for it, its so rare that elek actually works out anyway it's almost not worth bothering with and replacing with a better card. Zola could well be better than it. Just remember it won't copy buffs from prelates or the Undatakah so the only really good targets will be Lynessa and shirvalla. This iteration suffers from a lack of card draw in longer games so improving that is probably a better strategy than zola, although a well buffed lynessa works as card draw too.
what cards to replace Crystalsmith Kangor and Shirvallah, the Tiger
I would say righteous protectors would fill a similar role but you also need the cards in hand, so probably one acolyte of pain and one righteous protector. I think Shirvallah is really good though and you will suffer from not having it quite a bit. Kangor is really good in any aggro/face matchup, it often heals you for at least 4 and makes them waste damage on killing it.
The deck needs some optimising overall so try some stuff out. The only truly core cards to the idea are the buffs, immortal prelates, plated beetles and the undahtakah. The board clears and standard control tools are core to control paladin but there are other ways to build it.
Zilliax fits in all decks. And Stonehill Defender is always good in Paladin.
I don’t have lynessa-sunsorrow or uther-of-the-ebon-blade. Recommendation for them?
I believe I have to craft call-to-arms. I think those cards are essential, no?
I'll give you a different version I've been working on which doesn't run CtA, not sure if it is better really, the CtA tempo swing in the late game is insane. Lynessa is more important than Uther but replacing them with draw would be fine.

This deck is so much fun, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good time during the holidays!
I made a video showcasing the deck in action, I really hope you enjoy.
So what happens when they both get silenced? ggwp ?
Ha yeah basically, most odd warriors don't run it right now and aggro that does run silence doesn't really need the extra value. If you think they are running silence you can try and duplicate your prelates with elek to give a better chance at some sort of infinite value.
