I just hit legend with this deck. It does pretty well against secret hunters (64% win rate) which made the majority of matchups at these ranks (30% to 40%) and nobody plays it which has made me proud of achieving legend for the first time with this deck.
Just in case somebody doesn't know how this deck works, you cycle through your whole deck until you have no cards left and then play Shirvallah, the Tiger, which will cost 0 mana at this point, follow it with Baleful Banker to add a copy to your empty deck and fire the Holy Wrath mortar to your opponents face! Most of the time you'll need to make this combo twice since the opponent can armor up or have lifesteal minions that keep them at 30 health.
Hunters are weak to this strategy because you don't need to attack with your minions, you just need them so sit there and buff them with Spikeridged Steed or Flash of Light & Potion of Heroism. It is very important that you buff your minions with these spells, no matter if they already have a divine shield or are at full health because you just want the extra draw Lynessa Sunsorrow will bring to the table.
Mulligan
You always want to get draw as your first cards, Crystology having the MOST priority since it becomes useless if you've already drawn all the 1 attack cards. If you're against Odd Rogue maybe you want to hang on to an Equality since it's a pretty tough match that is decided in the first 5 turns.
Conclusion
As you can see, mortar paladin is very competitive deck in this meta. It's a very fun to play deck which is the reason I never gave up on it and continued improving it until this version. It can be a bit difficult to learn but it's a very unique and satisfying deck to play!
Hey!
Great deck I must say.Bloodmage Thalnos can be added instead of one Loot Hoarder. Better synergy with Crystology and damage spells.
What Lynessa Sunsorrow × 1. I don't wanna craft it cause in 3 month I need to dust it
I'd say Lynessa is a core card to the deck. It allows you to draw and stall at the same time. I think this deck needs her otherwise it's just bad.
I play a version without Lynessa, but with Mountain Giants. I am doing pretty well with it around rank 2.
When combining Acolytes with Wild Pyromancer and/or steed, you will not have issues with card draw. And the Giants add enough pressure that you often would not even need the stall from Lynessa.
I don't really like Acolyte of Pain's because they're susceptible to get killed and I like using my Wild Pyromancer's to combo with Equality for cheap board clear. Otherwise, nice deck to make up for the loss of Lynessa Sunsorrow, didn't think of using Mountain Giant as a threat.
are there any cards to replace crystalsmith kangor? is bloodmage ok?
it's more cycle and has synergy with crystology but you miss the amazing combo of kangor + tiger to heal for 14 hp when you're in a dire situation. I wouldn't say it's a perfect substitute but it will work.
