Come in and Warm your Frozen Boots by the Fire!
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gunnolf, and I am originally from the Land Down Under a.k.a. Australia. I am an avid gamer that has acquired a real passion for card games, which originated from my humble beginnings as a Yu-Gi-Oh collector and eventually grew from my dabbling in Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight, until we reached the game we know as Hearthstone.
I've played Hearthstone since the days of classic, with multiple accounts on both EU and NA servers. Despite having reached the Rank of Legend and my own personal mentality of equating 'having fun' with 'winning', I am not really a fan of meta power-grinding & net-decking, not that there is anything wrong with that. Therefore, I enjoy thinking about new, cool and fun deck ideas that push boundaries while also allowing you to win and those are what I want to share with you guys every-time I post a decklist.
I have presently become a contributing writer to WILDHS and Vicious Syndicate will be posting articles there on a semi-regular basis, regarding deck-archetypes the status of the meta as well as how to get the most fun out of this game even if you aren't a big spender. If any of this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend that you check out of the websites, as the writers and the owner himself are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet with great in-game knowledge (link to be websites can be found HERE). You can also follow me on Twitter for latest updates.
If you genuinely like my content and would like to see me produce more of it, then please consider supporting me on Patreon. This is by no means necessary but it will definitely help me out in the long run. Thanks for Reading ^^
Deck Introduction
Heya guys and Happy Holidays. This took a while but I am happy to report that I've playtested the deck to a degree that I've found satisfactory and it's ready to rumble. After the Kobolds & Catacombs expansion was released, I knew that Kathrena Winterwisp had serious potential which is what led me to make my then Metabreaker Recruit Secret Hunter deck. Now with the release of Rastakhan Rumble and fresh off the latest nerfs that killed anti-control Kingsbane Rogue, one of the deck's biggest enemies, the deck is ready to make a resurgence but with a different set of powerful beasts. Now without anymore delay, let's get into the details.
Card Choices and Deck-building Explained
As always, let's have a look at the significance of some cards. I will explain some of the card choices I opted for and the reasoning as to why they were included over potential counter-parts.
1) Stitched Tracker: While this is potentially the most easy card to replace in the deck, I personally think that the value it provides is phenomenal. It allows you to discover minion based options that can fit your future turns as well as additional beasts that ensure that Oodansta will have something to pull when summoned.
2) Oodansta: Probably the best beast in the deck who's value remains consistent throughout the game due its ability to summon beasts from hand thus allowing for large temposwings.
3) Flanking Strike: Great midgame card that allows you to control the board to such an extent until you transition into your late-game. Overall just a solid inclusion.
4) Freezing Trap: Now that Odd Paladin has taken somewhat of a hit, this particular secret is starting to perform a whole lot better. More time will be required to see if it holds up in the long run but right now it has had a stellar performance.
(At the present time, only a few cards have been listed but I will include more if questions pop-up within the comments section regarding substitutions and why other cards were included.)
Alternative Beasts, Cards & F2P Options
Ok so I understand that the deck is a tad top-heavy on the ole dust with regard to the beasts. While those cards may be optimal, they are by no means the only options with which you can play the deck. The general substitutions you can make are as follows:
a) Beasts:
- 1x King Krush | +1x Charged Devilsaur
- 1x Amani War Bear | +1x Savannah Highmane or +1x Swamp King Dred (if you want to be blingy)
b) Other Card Substitutions:
- 2x Flanking Strike | +2x Wingblast or +2x Kill Command or +2x Baited Arrow
c) Tech Cards:
The most flexible slots in the deck belong to both Stitched Trackers. Feel free to experiment and tailor the deck to the meta by including various tech cards. Some that have proven useful to myself are as follows:
(Let me know if you have any other cards to recommend in terms of teching against the meta so that I may include them for the benefit of others.)
The Secret Package
For this particular deck, I have opted for Secretkeeper, Mad Scientist as well as a collection of 6 secrets that consist of 2x Freezing Trap, 2x Cat Trick and 2x Wandering Monster (with the occasional substitution of one for a Venomstrike Trap). This is the early game bread and butter of the deck and alongside Lesser Emerald Spellstone ensures that you get to the late-game in one piece.
Please feel free to experiment with the secrets at hand but from playtesting, this package has proven to be the most consistent. This brings me to my next point: Masked Contender. Why am I not running him in my deck? I did try him out and while he is a very good card and works very efficiently in decks with multiple secrets, he couldn't make the cut in the current list. Mad scientist has a lower curve and is not limited by a battlecry effect. Additionally Cloaked Huntress has a better body and can potentially allow you to play a fully upgraded spellstone on curve.
General Mulligan Guide
So the general strategy of the deck is to have a very powerful curve and pile on heaps of pressure in the early game while relying on the beast package and Deathstalker Rexxar to finish things off late. The deck is very versatile thus you can tailor your strategy to your opponent.
As a starting point you want to keep your early game i.e. Secretkeeper, Mad Scientist and Cloaked Huntress. Animal Companion should also be a consideration but only if you are on the coin.
Against aggro you'll definitely want to keep Wandering Monster and especially against even shaman, Deathstalker Rexxar is definitely worth keeping as my stats show a very high winrate when played on curve against the class.
Other Gunnolf Decks
Hey everyone and thanks for checking through the current deck. If you're stomped for creativity and want to have more fun on ladder while simultaneously climbing make sure to check out my Holy Wrath Paladin that has quite literally had me incurring the wrath of my opponents.

Author's Notes
As always guys, thank you so very much for reading. I would not be making this content if it wasn't for your tireless support. I went through a lot of different lists to get to this deck and I put in way more than my typical 30 test game minimum. However, it was all worth it since it actually functions quite nicely. As always make to practice a little with the deck before taking it to ladder. Good luck climbing everyone and Merry Christmas. I'll have one new deck for everyone on Christmas Day.
I enjoy deck-building a multitude of interesting decks that are both entertaining and Legend viable (with some odd Free-to-Play lists mixed in). So if you like this deck (or anyone of my other ones) consider leaving a thumbs up, as it really helps in the long run! :)
Thank you guys for all your support and if you have any suggestions, let me know.
Hi there, nice to see a great deck again by you :) What if we want to use
Spiritsinger Umbra, what subs do you make? You could probably cut Houndmaster Shaw or a Stitched Tracker. Both are nice but not a 100% integral part of the deck! :)
Hello Gunnolf, and thank you for once again a fun and consistent Wild deck.
I have 2 questions for you and I hope you can answer.
- Isn't Zul'jin an interesting card for this deck ?
- Is Houndmaster Shaw really good here ? I have had a disappointing expercience with him so far.
You can definitely try Zul'jin out. I personally don't own him so I can't test how good he would be in the deck. However, in theory I don't think he would fit quite well due to the limited amount of spells.
Houndmaster Shaw is really good when he sticks but he's not mandatory.
Thanks for the answer !
Played five with the deck and got 3-2, seems consistent. I find the early game board presence is much more important than the late game big beast value. Two games I won were over by turn 5 when I had a buffed secret keeper and shaw on board. Lost to a big priest when I didn't draw any secrets or threat before the priest had already set up the board with big guys.
Fun deck though, thanks for sharing as always!
My pleasure and there is one more deck to come for this year. Sort of a Christmas present :)
But yeah back to the deck. I've experimented so much with the list and early game consistency is the only thing that really worked against multiple decks. Kind of go aggressive or go home. However, unlike midrange or face hunter you don't run out of gas in the lategame.
