This is my Quest Priest deck featuring Hakkar, the Soulflayer that I have been having moderate success with on ladder. If you are tired of seeing Secret Hunter and OTK decks that cycle as quickly as possible, then this is the deck for you.
I run a light dragon package because Dustbreaker is just too good against aggro/hunter spellstone. Basic gameplay is to complete the quest as quickly as possibly and try to Shadow Visions a Seance so you can drop and copy Amara, Warden of Hope on turn 7. From there you basically stall until you can drop Hakkar, the Soulflayer and win in fatigue. You do not typically have to worry about silence against any decks except for Even Warlock. I threw in Hemet, Jungle Hunter as an insurance policy if you happen to get unlucky with the corrupted bloods. You do tend to cycle pretty quickly trying to complete the quest so Archbishop Benedictus is there to prevent fatigue. In my experience you want to wait as long as possible to drop Benedictus as it can really throw off your cycle if you have too many foreign cards. The key is to identify what your opponent is playing in terms of aggro/control/combo as quickly as possible so you know which cards to pull from Shadow Visions.
Please try this deck out if you want to have an absolute blast and punish people playing spell hunter.
I realize this deck is a bit expensive, so here are some card replacements:
Mojomaster Zihi for any deathrattle minion , Rotten Applebaum would be a nice choice
Alexstrasza - nice card to burn your opponent down during fatigue, if you need to replace I would consider Twilight Drake or some other dragon
Hemet, Jungle Hunter - perhaps giest if you need to, but would be a serious downgrade
Bloodmage Thalnos - Crystalline Oracle spell damage is not so important as the card draw/cheap quest activator
I would take my advice with a grain of salt cause I play too many janky decks, but I didn't quite understand the point of the alexstrasza in the deck as well as the pinatas. What I found worked better was dragonmaw scorchers and a shadow word: death. You have a ton of ways of beating control/combo decks, but no way to win against aggro and the scorchmaws help with that as well as giving an extra dragon to active the duskbreakers which I found could be quite hard to activate when needed. the Shadow word death helps a lot in this meta I found because there are a lot of bigger minions on the board earlier (especially with even lock) which can be hard to deal with. I was considering even putting in a mind control but need to test more, it's a bit too expensive, but feels great when you steal combo pieces. Overall I love the deck! Let me know what you think about the suggestions I had as well, maybe you found a better reason to run those other cards.
Hey thanks for the feedback I appreciate it! The pinatas are there mostly for deathrattles that I can play on turn 4. Also, you'd be surprised how many times you get another dragon off them to activate your Dustbreaker. I would consider them core at this point. Alexstrasa on the other hand is mostly in as a tech vs kingsbane rogue/surprise burst when you have 15 dmg on board (which is not very hard to do). For Kingsbane, usually I can hang on to make about 3 copies of Amara before the their weapon gets too big and I need a quicker win condition. I found that since they draw so quickly you can surprise them with Alex when theres only corrupted bloods left in their deck for a win. I previously had a shadow ward death in there but I removed it for Anduin as I found having a smaller spell pool for shadow visions (to pull either Seance or Mass Hysteria) was very effective vs threatening boards.
That's true, I didn't realize you don't really have a turn 4 XD, maybe keep in the pinatas but take out coffin crasher for a shorcher? I've been playing this deck a ton and it kind of gets bodied by aggro it feels like. Also, the shadow word death can be really helpful because of the shadow visions. Some games being able to get more than one copy of it is better than getting another seance. I'm starting to understand your reasoning for the alex, but the deck feels really top heavy with it. Plus, You'd have to get lucky with the corrupted to actually kill kingsbane with it because of the lifesteal. Thanks for letting me know your opinions as well! If you play on NA, we should play sometime!
