Plan: pretend to be a priest. Control the board, chip away at their health a little bit, play like you don't have a win condition.
Use Shadow Visions to fish out your Mind Blasts.
Then: Play Shadowreaper Anduin. They still don't suspect anything. Priests play the DK a lot, right?
Next turn you play Alexstrasza (if you need to). They start to think, "Am I in trouble?"
Then HP / Mind Blast / HP / Mind Blast / HP for 16 face damage.
I've won a lot of games from people sitting at ~15 health behind a wall of taunts thinking that this wimpy control priest can't touch them.
Mulligan: Northshire Cleric, Firetree Witchdoctor.
If you have a Duskbreaker or Witchdoctor: keep your lowest other dragon.
If vs Aggro: Keep Duskbreaker.
If vs Combo: Psychic Scream wins you the game here. Wait till the board is full of things that are not their combo pieces, and scream it back into their deck, forcing them to spend longer assembling their combo.
Always pick Mind Blast from Shadow Visions and Firetree Witchdoctor, unless you're about to die or you don't get the choice, in which case Psychic Scream or Mass Hysteria are fine.
Bad match ups: Classes that pile on the armour.
Played around with it and doing pretty good (rank 4). Some losses because of my own mistakes, should get better as I play it more. The huge amount of Hunters and Kingsbane Rogues have made me switch an Acolyte for Harrison.
I also included 2 Twilight Drakes and a Crowd Roaster substituting 2 Scorchers (they have been underwhelming for me) and a Scaleworm. I can see Scorcher making a return if things like Odd Paladin become more popular but I hardly see em on ladder for now.
So the deck it's based on is https://www.hearthpwn.com/top-decks/179698-control-priest which is pre-expansion but still showing a v. good win rate, and that has wild pyromancers and twilight drakes and power word shields.
I threw in some rumble cards because it feels bad to not use them, and the Firetree Witchdoctor is an obvious improvement over Power Word Shield - it's got a chance of giving you another Mind Blast or Shadow Visions, and it doesn't pollute the Shadow Visions pool making it less likely to draw a Mind Blast.
Once the PWS was gone, cutting Wild Pyro seemed sensible and that's where the Scorchers came in.
Twilight Drakes just seemed kind of nothingy to me. I guess they're one of the deck's few non-reactive plays, that you can stick on an empty board and not feel like you're losing value, but I want never glad to top-deck one, if you know what I mean.
I dusted some old gold cards I don't care about and crafted a pair of crowd roasters and replaced the scorchers with them. Crowd Roaster and Scaleworm serve the same purpose so with roasters in now cutting Scaleworms to make room for any other card makes sense to me.
Got legend with this deck this month so thanks :). I like how the deck can win against pretty much anything (Odd Warrior isnt a thing atm, though that can change). Maly/Togg Druid is really hard tho. The good match-up against Hunter and aggro decks also works well in its favor.
8-0 so far in the brawl:
I think crowd roaster would be an improvement over the scorcher, but I don't have dust to craft one yet.
Twilight Acolyte is soft single-target removal - either to neuter a high attack minion, or to steal it with a cabal shadow priest.
Seem to do fine vs hunters and odd mages. It's just armour that the deck is weak to.
Ok thx; I will test it out with a Roaster then :). Acolyte + Cabal is nice, I have a lot of experience with it too hehe but it takes 3 cards to be in hand (dragon activator) and comes at 9 mana. Roaster is a less clunky as it only needs 2 cards in hand and comes at 7 mana.
Considering Druid is still popular & Odd Warrior might pick up on popularity once the meta settles, maybe Archmage Benedictus is an idea to include.
Interesting deck, will try it out tonight. How's the match-up against Hunters and Odd Mage?
And how's Scorcher working out for you? I seem to be more inclined to the Crowd Roaster as it gives you a single removal option which this deck lacks, while it already has quite some mass removal.
