Gameplan
Bring your opponent to 0 hp with your spells buffed from your spell damage minions. Use potent draw cards to get through your deck quickly, freeze cards to stall the game and Emperor Thaurissan to reduce the cost of the necessary amount of cards to finish your opponent with a final blow.
Knowing how much damage can you deal at any moment is hugely important and should decide your next actions (draw, freeze board etc).
Highest damage in one turn possible (w/o coin, friendly minions on board or secrets):
0 Emperor ticks: 22 (Cosmic Anomaly 8, 2*Ice Lance 8, 2*Frostbolt 6)
1 Emperor tick: 34 (2*CA 16, 2*IL 8, 2*FB 6, Bloodmage Thalnos 4)
2 Emperor ticks: 57 (2*CA 24, 2*IL 8, 2*FB 6, Bloodmage 6, 2*Fireball 12, Fireblast 1)
1. Against Aggro
The game is basically a race if you can draw enough burn spells and set up your hand for the final turn. Don't be hesitant to use draw cards that benefit both players (Coldlight Oracle, Research Project) since you need to gather your cards quickly.
Use Frost Nova and Blizzard smartly. You can block your opponent from playing anything if they overextend or use Doomsayer to wipe their board entirely. Ice Blocks can be played with other cards to set up the final turn while staying safe.
2. Against Control
Against control you have much more time to cycle through your deck, usually without much pressure from your opponent. Still you can save some freeze cards with Doomsayer for potential swingy turns. Due to most control decks' big hand size milling is also an option.
Important aspect of gameplay against control is playing against hand disruption (Dirty Rat) since that determines the max amount of damage the deck can deal, and health manipulation, notably armor gain. Careless opponents may opt not to gain high enough amount of armor due to the deck's surprising amount of burst. Also if you can, try to get to trigger Emperor Thaurissan twice.
3. Against Combo
Deck has a huge advantage against other combo decks. Ice Blocks give you 2 extra turns against damage-centric combo decks while Explosive Runes can be set up to counter specific minions such as Aviana. You can also try to mill their important cards with Research Project/Coldlight Oracle.
Hi. It definitely can feel very similar to other Combo Mage archetypes with all the stall and draw etc.
However the fact that it isnt OTK has it's merits - your cards are more flexible and can be used against enemy minions or for outburning your opponent over time if they can't outheal. Also most of the time you only need a few of the cards to win instead of the full combo. It also doesn't auto-lose against hand disruption.
