Hello dear Hearthpwners! This is Toumouniek and I'm here to share an in-depth guide on how to pilote Toast's Mechathun Evenlock. I got 82% winrate from rank 4 to Legend, easiest Legend of my life!
I think this deck has so much potential, but only because it goes under the radar, so I'm secretly hoping this deck doesn't get too well known. I believe Toast did make the deck although I've only seen him play it once, and I haven't seen him play it since. This is the Twitch VOD link so you guys can check out some actual gameplay, although I think he didn't master the deck completely (because he didn't play it that much) : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/304121506
Unlike the last deck guide I made, I didn't record my stats and the sample is quite small (only 22 games). The reason the sample is so small is because the deck is so strong. I got legend so fast, only lost 4 times with this deck.
I do recall some facts about my experience though :
Out of the 22 games, I pulled the Mechathun combo 5 times.
Out of the 4 losses, only one loss could have been a win if I had played classic Evenlock (the Mechathun package is well worth it, believe me)
My 4 losses were against : 1 zoolock, 1 Deathrattle Hunter, 1 Malygos Druid, 1 Token Druid.
Although I have won several times against these decks, especially zoolock where I must have something like 7-1 against it.
Very difficult matchups which I barely won, and I think are not favorable are Quest Rogue and Hadronox Druid.

What's so great about this deck? The Consistency.
I share something with a lot of you, I get quite frustrated when I lose. If the game was close, that I got outvalued, out aggroed, missplayed etc I get a little sad. But what really destroys my moral is when I wasn't even able to play. When you draw so badly, you just lose without even able to stand for yourself. As a Control Deck player, was pleases me the most is the consistency which offers Evenlock. Yes you can get no giants, or no drakes, but that is quite rare as you often have 9-10 cards in your hand by turn 3-4, a third of your deck! Without even counting the mulligan. This is the most satisfying deck I've ever played by far.
This deck is so logical in it's build, I don't know why people haven't been farming it. For Mecha'thun's conditions to be fulfilled, you must empty your deck, your board and your hand. Cataclysm is the only card in the game capable of doing both emptying hand and board. What's left? Emptying your deck. Oh lucky you, every combo part costs an Even amount of mana, guess you can play Genn and have a 1 mana hero power to empty your deck as fast as you can! It just makes so much sense.
General Strategy :
For General Strategy on how to pilote this deck against decks you'll beat straight up with board presence such as aggro decks, mid range decks, or some combo decks, I suggest you look up some nice guides about classic Evenlocks.
I'll only talk about the matchups that change :
Evenlock is already one of the most polyvalent deckss out there. You have no straight losses against any decks. There are some harder matchups than others, but none that are so drastic you could concede immediately. With some early giants and drakes, any matchup is good. Especially aggro.
The decks it did suffer the most against were heavy control decks such as Odd Warrior, Big Mage and Shudderwock Shaman. Well now, they might actually be the easiest matchups thanks to the Mecha'thun Package.
One important thing to understand with this deck when facing opponents you need to pull-off the Mechathun combo on, is that camouflage is your greatest ally. Never play your Galvanizers unless you'll pull off the combo the turn after. This is because unless they know you have the combo, they won't try to kill you with their minions or whatever and will play defensive, which is to our advantage.
For those new to this combo, you have to play both Galvanizers to reduce Mecha'thun's cost to 8. And once your deck is empty, play Mecha'thun + Bloodbloom + Cataclysm. Your deck is empty and Cataclysm will empty both your hand and board, filling the conditions for Mecha'thun to blow your opponent up!
Against these heavy control decks, try tapping every turn, even if it means doing suboptimal plays. Emptying your deck is your win condition.
NOTES :
Using Bloodbloom with a spell DOES NOT upgrade your spellstones. I think it's a stupid card interaction but that's how it is.
Don't mind using your combo pieces against aggro decks if needed, your win condition is now just winning on board and with Bloodreaver Gul'dan's help. Bloodbloom is a great spell by the way, sometimes it will get you lethals :

Adapt. If somehow you lose Cataclysm, everything isn't lost. Empty your hand and you can use Siphon Soul or Twisting Nether as an alternative. Example of that against a Togwaggle Druid I faced :

Never surrender, you never know what you can beat with this deck, even Hadronox Druids :

CARD DISCUSSION :
I know there are draw-heavy mechathun decks out there, but believe me they are 100 times weaker to the meta. Not only is this deck super powerful against aggro, but the camouflage as an evenlock is very precious. Use it well. So no draw cards are needed in this deck, forget about it.
Lich King, which is present in classic Evenlock, is to me not that usefull. It may give you that extra value card in some scenarios, but on a greater number of games it's not that useful in this deck that operates differently.
Silence minions such a spellbreaker was thought of, but I couldn't find a card that is simply less effective in this deck. The least effective minions in the deck I think are the plated beatles, but even they are very very good against aggro and as a 2-drop.
The only real card I hesitated a lot to replace a beetle with is Shadowflame. It gives good clear, and is always good with stuff like Giants. But I believe it would be a little too gready, and this deck has way enough board clears to fight off aggro, and has often board control in other matchups. Your choice, but I'd recommend keeping the plated beatles.
I hope you like the deck, and win a lot with it. Don't share it too much though ;)
PS : Sorry, I don't know why, but I couldnt upload the pictures directly this time, so I left the links as is :/
Oh ok, I never watch him and didn't hear Toast say it wasn't his deck. Also I never go onto hearthstonetopdecks.
Credit to Stan's deck then! :D Its a great one
thanks for this deck!! i have something very similar to this right now at an 80% winrate, just 20-5 at rank 18 right now but i feel like i can climb.
Good for you man! Climb that ladder EZ
this deck seems great. evenLock isn't bad, and now it has late game win condition, as well as early game. nice deck.
Thanks! :D
I loved playing it, having a hand full every turn makes it really enjoyable to play.
I replaced the Plated Beetles with Gnomeferatus and find that they work better. 6 armor usually doesn't make the same kind of difference that two milled, potentially key, cards can make.
Propably more debatable, but I have to say that it also works better for me, I have replaced the Twilight Drakes with Spellbreakers, Silence > Stats...
Gnomeferatus could be a viable choice, it makes it even more fun to play, I guess it's personal opinion, I could see it work quite well :)
But as you said, not putting drakes in the deck is to me way weaker than not having spellbreakers. You always have a hand full, so putting a 4/9 or 4/10 on turn 4 is really good, and it also makes for a Giant-less hand ^^
Druid for sure, they just have a faster combo and removal like Naturalize. I imagine the chance for winning would be like 70-30 and your only real hope is early turn 3 Mountain Giant with coin or turn 4 Mountain Giant as an attempt to pressure them.
If you're thinking of a face-off between the two decks, I agree with CodexTL and Druid would probably win.
But if you're asking which is better out of the two to climb ranks and win games it is this deck and by very very far. This deck has a control style win condition (clearing boards and Guldan) against aggro, a Midgame/Turn 3 Giants win condition against combo and midgame decks, and the Mechathun win condition against heavy control. Whereas Druid Mechathun only has one win condition, and does quite poorly on ladder. Hope it helps :)
i fought one of those and could not figure out why it was running floops gloop. it had 5 MINIONS! one of which just wins you the game when it dies.
Fun deck, thanks for posting. I'm 4-4 at rank 5. Feels like I'm either winning without the combo, or struggling to stay alive to pull it off (life tapping all game, I feel like I barely have enough heal to survive my own bloodbloom at the end).
I didn't run into any evenlocks, odd warriors or any druids or hunters at all, so maybe a small sample or pocket meta at rank 5. Beat a control warlock with 1 life left (per comment above).
Yeah it is afun deck! It's true that many players at rank 5 or somewhat play aggro decks because they want to climb fast out of there, and if youre facing alot of them like Odd Rogue and hunters I suggest switching decks until you get rank 4-3. And yes it is a very skilled deck, management of Tapping becomes better and better with experience. This deck is the deck that made me feel like progressing the most. Im happy you like it! :D
i agree, one thing the druid has over this is the ability to win the game with 70+ life.
i would like to have more cycling in this deck. but it has one me every game (without the combo) so cant really complain!
*edit* never mind, health is an issue. every single game i lost has been due to me killing myself. i have never even played the galvanizers. so i dont know how relevant the combo actually is in this deck.
If you dont encounter Heavy controls decks, yeah I'd suggest switching for classic evenlock. I didn't use the combo that much, but I did pull it off in the matchups that are UNWINNABLE for Evenlocks normally.
Don't know if I'm getting the wrong matchups or what, but I can't even muster a 50% winrate with this deck -- and I do pretty OK with regular Evenlock. With this, though, I get crushed by Odd Rogue. Even lost to a Tempo Shudder, and not just lost but got destroyed by it. Maybe if/when I finally run into a Togwaggle Druid or an Odd Warrior, it will feel worth it but right now it just feels like the Mecha'thun package just gets in the way of what are typically better cards.
The Mechathun package is mostly replaced by high value lategame cards in regular evenlock like Lich King, Mossy Horror, Geist. Even though they might help a bit, these cards dont matter much against Odd Rogue or Tempo Shudder. The main difference against board heavy matchups are doomsayers, and some evenlocks are running only 1. The package is really worth it if you're encountering a diverse meta like I did when I climbed to Legend, if you're facing a lot of Odd Rogue (which I agree is a hard matchup) I'd suggest switching decks yes ^^
I'm loving this deck but I'm having a lot of trouble against deathrattle hunter. Their magnetic bomber and and hunters mark + weapon takes out my big minions. After that it's impossible for me to keep up with their board and rexxar's heropower value while being low on hp. Any tips?
Yes it's true when they get all the answers, it becomes a hard matchup. But that's how rexxar DK is atm, it's a one-card deck which has infinite value. Just try to get as many minions on board as you can, don't waste your Mechathun combo cards (they might come in handy later) and hope for some luck. Rexxar DK is a legendary card, so it's harder to draw as there one copy only per deck.
Nice
Thanks ^^ Hope you kick ass with it
