Just killed a warrior on turn 6 from 33 health with nothing but a Necrium Blade on board
Edit: thanks for the upvotes. Here's a small description:
The deck's idea is to assemble the whole combo through a single Elven Minstrel. That happens 100% of the time when you do not play the Cavern Shinyfinder, however i have found that card to add consistency rather than lower it.
The way you actually win is by having a 1 charge Necrium Blade equipped, then playing Kobold Illusionist -> attack > Backstab (or Razorpetal) the Illusionist and then burn the opponent. That's 4 mana for 2 copies of Malygos. Shadowsteps only help prepare a 2 mana Illusionist, leading to an even cheaper setup, that can allow us to burn even a high armor opponent. They are however not highly important and are probably the first cards to replace.
Cards like Bloodmage Thalnos, Vilespine Slayer or some taunts would help keep us alive, but would lead to us needing more time and more draw. Personally, i have not found that version of the deck as interesting or effective.
Edit #2: i've replaced the two Shadowsteps for one Sudden Betrayal and one Necrium Vial, as a test. The first is aimed at helping against aggro and the second against high armor decks (and slow draws).
As for Mulligan choices: Always keep one Elven Minstrel, as he gets us the full combo. Mulligan aggressively for him.
If you are certain the opponent is playing aggro, you can keep effective removal like Backstab or Sap. If you are certain they are slow, keep Preparation and Razorpetal Volley, as they speed things up for you.
Update #3:
I replaced the Shinyfinder with a second Sudden Betrayal, partially because the secret was performing well, partially because of a rage moment on a shinyfinder topdeck on the wrong turn.
I am personally getting close to a 50% winrate against zoo, which should be a very bad matchup. Don't play like a typical control deck. When the pressure is not too high, try to ignore it and setup your combo. You have to win first, not outlast them.
Thank everyone for the enormous feedback. This is something i never expected. I hope you keep having fun!
Final Edit:
I do not have the time to refine this deck as much as I would like. However as many of you have found, tuning it is not too hard, because there are a few simple guidelines to follow.
1. You should be very careful about adding more minions. Every one reduces the effectiveness of Elven Minstrel by a lot, and that card is the soul of the deck.
2. Mulligan almost everything for Elven Minstrel and go for the combo as soon as possible. If your opponent doesn't have lethal on board and you can set up the OtK, go for it. Don't play this as control because the rogue class does not have the tools for that.
3. Don't give up if your opponent is gaining a lot of armour. If you find the right spells you can burn through obscene amounts of it, as demonstrated in the videos.
And an important clarification. The deck has a somewhat weird approach to it. Contrary to what most players are used to, the aim is not to have a fair chance to win every game. Instead the deck aims at being extremely favoured when drawing properly, while accepting that there will be a few games you just concede. It is in a sense a coinflip deck, except the odds depend on the metagame, rather than always being 50-50.
Updated for Rastakhan: 2 Walk the Planks and one Cavern Shinyfinder in the place of two secrets and an Assassinate.
The deck is now much smoother and can actually be used for ranking up consistently.
Here's a video of the deck by Kiwiinbacon.
And here is the second video!
Oh come on people, this deck is not bad at all. It's either you get all the puzzle pieces or not. Just mulligan hard for Elven Minstrel. I love the OTK idea and the only issue for me is that sometimes I have my combo with a lot of blanks on my hand (Vanish, Preparation, Assassinate) and no direct dmg (Eviscerate, Razorpetal or Sinister Strike).
Even opening this page is a waste of time.
I tried it and have 4-7 atm. It is good deck but too much lucky draw dependable. If you don't draw all pieces of combo by turn 7-8, you're 99% dead on the next turn.
But considering that I have only had to craft Malygos and 2x Preparation (both are classic cards and see lots of play in other decks as well) to fulfill this deck, I don't regret trying it.
Malygos is one of the best cards you could possibly craft. I have been playing maly combo decks for several expansions because they are so fun. Played/still play a version of the currently popular Maly Druid way back in K&C. It's such a fun combo. I even built a Maly Shaman deck that I had fun with for a while (Using spellstones to copy him)! You won't regret having him at all. He can also go in Recruit Druid. Dust well spent imo.
good deck in first game otk in turn 6,but in the next 7 games lose before turn 8 and couldnt do anything against: zoo, mech hunter, odd paladin, tempo mage, cube lock... so I have 1-7 atm.
Got 33% (5-10) winrate with this deck , which I find fairly good.
EDIT: I think this deck might as well work with -1 Necrium Blade and +1 something.
Having fun with the deck at first but now not drawing Elven Minstel 5 games in a row till turn 10.... F me...
Yes, but its often a dead card cuz your hand is too big. I added 1x DK, 1x roll the bones and 1x shadowstep and took out the secrets and assassinate now.
This deck is good if only u have the weapon draw out..
I replaced Assassinate to Myra's unstable element, and it works well! Sometimes I couldn't collect one or two key cards even at 10 mana, This spell makes it work!
How many cards does it generally draw for you? On the other hand sprint is 2 more manacost, so it might be better.
Never mind, i ve tried it once and it was great LUL
Had all the pieces except for some damage, so i prepped myra unstable and got what i needed to finish. Wouldve been dead the turn after.
Well, you can always add a cavern shinyfinder to help you to find the weapon, try it and see if he helps you to get more consistency.
what did u ditch for shiny finder
Personally i removed a Sudden Betrayal and added a Cavern Shinyfinder.
Player 11 matches so far, won 9 of them.
I had all the cards to build this deck after opening packs, and I've had a good bit of fun playing with it.
The issue I find is just pulling into the things I need.
When the combo works, it works great. But when I don't pull into what I need it just feels like I fall flat on my face.
Any suggestions for changes or playstyle tips? Or is it just kinda my shitty luck?
(i.e. minstrel into minstrel, or pulling only 1 direct damage card, or no necrium pulls)
Edit: so 7/18 matches in I'm at just over a 30% win rate.
That said, admittedly a good bit of the losses were my own misplays.
The margin for error (and poor luck) in this deck is very slim. 1 misplay or bad draw can easily cost a win.
currently 8/23 this deck isn't bad but need more draw filtering,
if you're lucky enough it plays well but that's just it.
even when you get decent pulls its an "exodia" deck. meaning if your pulls aren't perfect... you will suffer.
its fun but be advised; this deck is highly dependent on lucky draws and perfect plays. if either is lacking you will find yourself with your foot in your mouth.
Pretty good deck, which is also a lot of fun to play with.
I've played 32 games with this deck currently at a 66% winrate and I think that this deck can really shine. At rank 6 currently and it's not only pretty good, it's just super fun and refreshing. A fun OTK deck that can be countered easily (with weapon removal and demonic project) yet people aren't teching any weapon removal (or if so only 1). One thing I can say for CERTAIN is that -1 Cheap Shot and add Bloodmage Thalnos is 100% better from what I've found. The ability to do better against aggro decks with powered up Fan and better basically you're entire deck is nutty. Also, against control, using the weapon to draw an extra card isn't even terrible. Overall, fun deck and of course you can get unlucky but isn't that Hearthstone?
1/12? Maybe, just maybe the problem isn't the deck.
How many games did you play, 1? You can't be unlucky in all the games, that's not statistically possible.
