Just a cheeky bit of theorycrafting with Mecha'Thun, using Even Warlock as a base. I will be testing this deck day 1 of the expansion, and will also post a Mulligan guide if this can get +20 up-votes. Note that this deck list is likely to change before 'The Boomsday Project' is released.
In case you missed it, combo is as follows:
- Empty your deck (easy to do with 1 mana hero power)
- Play 2x Galvanizer with Mecha'thun in hand (cost will be reduced to 8 mana)
- Play Mecha'thun
- Play Bloodbloom and Cataclysm.
- Bam you win!
General Guide:
Gameplay: This deck is meant to be played in almost the same way as a standard even control Warlock, that means you want a big hand and board control. Where this deck differs from a normal list, is in the late game. The Mech’thun combo (shown above) enables a fairly consistent win rate against heavy control decks, provided you use you hard removal wisely.
The biggest problem with this deck is tapping too aggressively without healing. Against aggro decks in particular, you really don’t want to be falling below the 15 hp mark, and if you do, that’s where we use Hooked Reaver for a bit of defence. Against control however there is a much lower risk of burst damage, so provided you have board control and taunts you can draw your deck much faster. And Remember when we hit the late game, Gul’dan is there to heal you back up.
Mulligan Guide:
Against Aggro; we want to control the board early and clear our opponent’s small minions with AOE. This means we are looking for any of our 2 cost minions in our opener, excluding Galvaniser, and we are also after Hellfire and Defile.
Against Control; we are also looking for our precious 2 drops, however instead of trying to get AOE, we want our 4 cost minions especially Twilight Drake. I would also recommend keeping a Spellstone in hand if you are holding any Vulgar Homunculus’, as they are easy activators for more damage and healing.
Changes:
Edit: I decided to replace 2x Loot Hoarder with 2xPlated Beetle for better early game.
Edit #2: After playing a few games I've realized a number of changes that could be made; I find Dread Infernal can be a bit clunky in some situations, as a result of this I beleive that its can either be replaced with Glinda Crowskin (for a cheaper combo or more low cost minions, or a Skulking Geist (for against aggro decks like odd rouge, and zoolock.
Edit #3: After more revision it has come apparent that the meta is very aggro, to counter this I have replaced a Sunfury Protector and a Dread Infernal, with 2x Doomsayer.
If you like the deck please up-vote
Huge thanks to everyone who has given feedback and supported this deck, great to see a tonne of people having fun with this!
This is where advanced hearthstone knowledge comes up :) hearthstone in game events are encoded with something like turn of events happening and resolving. 1st of all - things like deathrattle procs AFTER the is completely resolved (test it - kill enemy Deathlord with only Curio Collector with UI - Curio will come as 4/4 not 9/9 - only exception for that rule is Poison Seeds, due to interaction with Explosive Sheep). 2nd - Cataclysm is coded to not "fully" destroy minions until you discard hand (that's why you draw same amount of cards with Malchezaar's Imp or doesn't discard cards drawn with your minion's deathrattle). I hope i could have helped :)
Hamet destroys some of the combo pieces though, that's why he does not fit in this list
Hemet, Jungle Hunter could work but it would require you to draw your combo pieces first which shouldn't be hard as a Warlock.
Why no Hemet, Jungle Hunter ?
I'm sure it has a spot in other lists but idk if it really fits in this one.
Destroys Bloodbloom
Not if in hand.
I think normal even warlock with Rin would work better. Looks like a fun deck tho.
Nice deck, have my upvote, but you are radically underestimating how hard it is to empty your deck. Druid and Rogue have a better shot at making Mecha’thun work, in my opinion. Togwaggle Druid, for example, commonly survives to fatigue.
Yeah I understand this will be a pain. Regardless weather the deck I ranked worthy I'm sure it will be a blast to play.
Yeah but as a trade off, Druid has a harder time emptying the hand (especially depending on how the deck is built) and Rogue doesn't have a great way to kill off Mechathun.
Deathrattle - Empty deck - Many shit can go wrong there...Hope I don't fetch this card in opening expansion.
Not really dude biggest setback is not surviving against agro
keep in mind alot of people will be playing mech decks on release, spellbreakers will be paramount
picaro es la clase que mas probabilidades tiene con meca c'thun
rogue is the most likely class with mecha'thun
i think we are giving a Tempo deck, a combo win condition, it just doesnt feel correct, why not playing mecha´thun whit the same combo, on a control warlock deck, whit voidlord and his friends, or maybe just an even control deck, and also, the life tap is a problem if you are trying to draw your entire deck, its like maybe a huge problem.
whit Druid you can draw your entire deck really fast, you have a lot of armor gain and defensive tools, you can also draw mecha´thun whit the new spell, and make sure you will not burn him whit your first or second yolo Ultimate infestation
The major issue I'm seeing with the Druid versions of the Mecha'Thun package is actually the fact that they run so much draw in card form. If, for instance, you end up with draw as your last few cards, you basically instantly lose. You have to spend 1-2 turns fatiguing yourself before you can combo, at which point if you haven't killed yourself by UI into fatigue, you're dead to anything your opponent plays.
This is the advantage of the Warlock list, because it's in the hero power, you have direct control over every card draw. While its absolute highroll potential is a little lower, I think it's vastly more consistent.
Sick how far this deck has gone :D
Looks cool
I like where you're going with this but Warlock has 3 cards that draw a total of 9 cards. They all have odd costs. Evenlock will not draw its deck out before aggro Warlock decks.
This version: https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1153921-hillwilliams-end-aggro-mechathun typically wins by aggro, and keeps the OTK for when it runs out of cards around turn 15. Even just the OTK part of it will consistently happen before Evenlock can get the same combo, but that's not even the main win condition.
