Just a cheeky bit of theorycrafting with Mecha'Thun, using Even Warlock as a base. I will be testing this deck day 1 of the expansion, and will also post a Mulligan guide if this can get +20 up-votes. Note that this deck list is likely to change before 'The Boomsday Project' is released.
In case you missed it, combo is as follows:
- Empty your deck (easy to do with 1 mana hero power)
- Play 2x Galvanizer with Mecha'thun in hand (cost will be reduced to 8 mana)
- Play Mecha'thun
- Play Bloodbloom and Cataclysm.
- Bam you win!
General Guide:
Gameplay: This deck is meant to be played in almost the same way as a standard even control Warlock, that means you want a big hand and board control. Where this deck differs from a normal list, is in the late game. The Mech’thun combo (shown above) enables a fairly consistent win rate against heavy control decks, provided you use you hard removal wisely.
The biggest problem with this deck is tapping too aggressively without healing. Against aggro decks in particular, you really don’t want to be falling below the 15 hp mark, and if you do, that’s where we use Hooked Reaver for a bit of defence. Against control however there is a much lower risk of burst damage, so provided you have board control and taunts you can draw your deck much faster. And Remember when we hit the late game, Gul’dan is there to heal you back up.
Mulligan Guide:
Against Aggro; we want to control the board early and clear our opponent’s small minions with AOE. This means we are looking for any of our 2 cost minions in our opener, excluding Galvaniser, and we are also after Hellfire and Defile.
Against Control; we are also looking for our precious 2 drops, however instead of trying to get AOE, we want our 4 cost minions especially Twilight Drake. I would also recommend keeping a Spellstone in hand if you are holding any Vulgar Homunculus’, as they are easy activators for more damage and healing.
Changes:
Edit: I decided to replace 2x Loot Hoarder with 2xPlated Beetle for better early game.
Edit #2: After playing a few games I've realized a number of changes that could be made; I find Dread Infernal can be a bit clunky in some situations, as a result of this I beleive that its can either be replaced with Glinda Crowskin (for a cheaper combo or more low cost minions, or a Skulking Geist (for against aggro decks like odd rouge, and zoolock.
Edit #3: After more revision it has come apparent that the meta is very aggro, to counter this I have replaced a Sunfury Protector and a Dread Infernal, with 2x Doomsayer.
If you like the deck please up-vote
Huge thanks to everyone who has given feedback and supported this deck, great to see a tonne of people having fun with this!
danm I'm not sure, cant say I've queued against one
You can totally switch out Galvanizer with Acidic Swamp Ooze for aggro and also you get a 3/2 for two. Plus who's going to have no cards in their deck on turn 9. Also, it costs two to put the Galvanizer down so you wouldn't be able to play them back to back anyways.
You're supposed to use Galvanizer before you try to execute the combo.
Can u link the deck please ?
What about The Lich King? Could I put him on the deck? sorry my bad english
You could replace the Dread Infernal for the Lich King. I suppose that Army of the Dead would be occasionaly awesome to finish the game. However, I do think that a second Siphon Soul or the Skulking Geist would be more useful.
Thanks for that deck i already hit rank 5 :)
Another important note: you gotta know when to play Bloodreaver, if at all. Against aggro, you will probably have to play it ASAP in order to survive. Against control, you can try to get more value first. And if you are racing another combo deck, like Shudderwock, you probably won't play it at all.
Gotta say, after playing against this deck a ton, I don't think there's a way for control warrior to beat it unless it's quest. Too much removal and healing for them to get a foothold, I actually think this deck can beat beat malygos easily and go even with shudderwock.
oh look they have two 5/5 and an 8/8 i gues you lose
Exactly, I'm not going to spend time writing a guide for this deck if no one were to play it.
Aggro's taken over already. In 22 games I've won 10 and haven't pulled off the combo a single time. Not sure if I'm playing it wrong or if it's the fact that I'm playing so many hunters and paladins. Hope others find more success
I swapped the Infernal for a second Siphon Soul and played a bit. Went from rank 11 to 5 with only 2 losses. Very solid deck and getting Mecha'thun to work is satisfying.
It's basically Even Warlock but with an alternate win condition that lets you deal with several decks you probably wouldn't be able to otherwise. Balancing your draw and your health total is the most important thing in match ups where Mecha'thun matters.
Looks really cool. Worth spending 2000 dust on it?
I wouldn't just yet friend, meta still needs to settle, it is very fun tho.
If it’s fun I’m sold. I need Mecha’Thun and Bloodblume.
Not sure if im doing something wrong but I just CANNOT get this combo to go off. I keep getting about half way through the game and still no MechaThun, Im constantly getting the wrong cards for the combo. This deck is so trash that the combo doesnt even work. OHHH WAIT its cuz i keep killing them before i can even get there....
The combo is more of an alt win condition, it doesn't always need to by the way you win, but when it is...
It feels damn good.
I had a ton of fun playing with Mecha'thun warlock today, I never thought this was gonna be as interesting as it is XD being able to pull off the combo is ever so satisfying. I made a video showcasing the archetype, I know it ain't the exact same list but the gameplan is always the same :P Draaaaw as much as possible!
Here's how my experience went, I hope you guys enjoy
Got the combo off first game. Awesome fun.
