Hey guys. I've managed to hit legend twice with this spell hunter deck.
Turns out, you don't really need to have Rhok'delar to win with spell hunter lol.
Why do I even play spell hunter without Rhok'delar and second To My Side!? Because I don't have them and didn't want to craft them. Oddly enough, this list is 100% viable and has about ~66% winrate, played 200 matches and won 136.
So just in case you don't have Rhok'delar but have Deathstalker Rexxar then this deck is for you. Enjoy!
P.S: If you want a guide of some sort, then let me now with the upvotes, although this list plays just like any other spell hunter deck out there.
I am aware that there is almost no point in cutting off minions without the weapon and second To My Side, but hey, this deck still does it's job.
Mulligan:
ALWAYS KEEP AND MULLIGAN FOR Deathstalker Rexxar
Vs Aggro: Explosive Trap, Wandering Monster, Candleshot, Unleash the Hounds, Animal Companion (if you have 1 mana weapon and wandering monster). Keep the spellstone if you have defensive tool already and at least one secret.
Vs any other slower decks you shouldn't get too many defensive tools but you need to maintain tempo with Wandering Monster, Animal Companion. Tracking is a great way to thin your deck and look for Deathstalker Rexxar since its your backup plan vs extremely heavy control decks.
General Strategy:
So as I said this deck is played just like any other Spell Hunter deck, you control the board with secrets, spells and weapons until one of your win conditions starts working:
1) Spellstones. Summoning 12/12 stats for 5 mana is insane tempo, that's why uphrading spellstone in the early game is extremely important, especially vs other aggressive decks. Sometimes you should use your hero power instead of a secret if you don't have your spellstone in hand yet, this is very situational of course.
2) Smorc. You're still playing hunter and have 2x Kill Command, 4x Huffer (possibly 0x and actually 3x if you're poor and don't have second To My Side!) and your hero power which puts constant pressure on your opponents, especially those that don't haave access to any healing (Rogues). You should maximize usage of your hero power and never play Deathstalker Rexxar if your gameplan is to kill your opponent asap.
3) Deathstalker Rexxar. This is basically any control deck killer and your backup plan when everything else fails. This card can turn the tide of most games alone. Since we don't have any minions in our deck and sometimes have to do nothing during our turns losing tempo, our new hero power can drastically change everything. First of all, if you're playing against control NEVER use Tracking, at least try not to do it. All cards you need you will get from your hero power which you MUST use very thoughtfully. Always look for beasts that you can use in your CURRENT turn, not the next. The only exceptions are when you are not pressured or already have something to play after you use your hero power. Remember, you have access to infinite resources.
You're gonna lose to druids a lot and there is nothing you can do it about it. Good luck!
Replace 1 Deadly Shot and 1 Tracking for the second To My Side! and Rhok'delar if you have them.
Edit: made a few changes with boomsday cards
Not competative deck in current meta
Mate, Deathstalker is just against heavy controldecks or in dangerous 6mana curves with full board on ur opponent.
U can always win if u use ur 2damage hero power wisely. I have this deck and several times I win by not using Rexxar right in the early turns, I use normal hero power straight to the end, Just change the tatics when I'm facing some stall control bulshit deck like Armor/Taunt/Big druid and his brother variations of Priest and Warrior and even shuddertrash (More Life, More Armor).
Edit: This list isn't bad, but I have to say that Rok'delar is a really good staple card for this list, and the secondto my side too, if u guys are not winning that much with this list is due to the lack of these two cards. it's basic math, if u don't draw ur Rexxar early, is most likely u will have ur Rokdellar or one of ur To my sides.
Many things are weak in this list...I have this one I'm reaching legend these days of new expansion and it's really working well before the new expansion and now, really well in this one.
This list I'm using it is really consistent and helped me a lot even against Huge Minion Decks or 3 amaras straight in the same game. - Just changed some secrets to secret plan wich gives me more options to choose -

Yo!
I've been playing for about 3 days - and I'm currently @ lvl 12!
Having a much better win rate, plus it's actually fun to play.
If you say you made it to LEG I wanna try to really push myself!
I literally draw Deathstalker Rexxar once every 5 games. I don't know if it's draw rate has been nerfed or what. But I have not drawn this card in my first 20 cards for the last 15 games. And I consistently lose because of this.
They do not nerf draw rates of cards. Come on.
Has anyone tried just removing the to my sides completely and popping in some appropriate minions instead? Using a MOSTLY spell hunter but removing the cards that require you to have no minions in there? Maybe a rhino to give your beasts charge.
I have tied a hybrid hunter deck and could make a guide but it isn't as good as just spell hunter or just beast hunter in my opinion. Also the without Rhok'Delar I know is still decent actually, however I think taking out the late game powerhouse of To My Side entirely is not optimal and having only 1 is ok but would still run 2.
Love the list, awesome to see you've been having success with it! Had a few games with it, check them out;
(Games start at 3:23)
You've played so many games with the deck, it would be amazing to get your thoughts if you ever have a chance to use Rok'delar.
Thanks so much for the list!
Wow dude! I really appreciate that you took your time to try out this deck. Its so weird actually :D
One of the main problems of any spell hunter decks is the lack of draw. There were so many games when I ran out of cards and had to pray to draw Deathstalker Rexxar, having Rhok'delar doubles the chances of getting that refill you need. I played normal spell hunter decks borrowing them from my friends and felt much more confident with my chances of winning.
Anyway, you are doing a really great job with your videos, thanks for the showcase!
Thank you so much, you're too kind! Love hearing your thoughts on Rok'delar, seems like it makes a lot of sense. Will definitely revisit the archetype later and give the bow a go.
Cheers and thanks!
Honestly you're better off cutting the To My Side! if you're not going to run 2 as well as the weapon. Also you should probably cut 1 Explosive Trap, 2 Trackings, 1 Deadly Shot and add 2 Secretkeepers, 1 Spellbreaker 1 Snake Trap and maybe find room for either a couple of Houndmasters, Scavenging Hyenas, or both.
I've played a lot of Spell Hunter, and without a doubt To My Side! is the strongest card in that deck, next to the spellstone, and the weapon consistently gives you that extra oomph to close out games before they recover. Both are incredibly powerful and if you're not running all 3, then you might as well not bother cutting minions from your deck at all.
I was actually thinking a lot of times about replacing these cards for the midrange package, but my winrate has just been too good for me to do it. To My Side! won me many games and Tracking proved to be the most essential tool to get Deathstalker Rexxar as it is the main win condition against slower decks and also extremely usefull for getting a chance of winning almost lost games.
Anyway, this deck is for those who doesn't have Rhok'delar but still want to play spell hunter and win some games. I wish I had the stats screenshots to have some proof of viability, unfortunately I played on mobile and tracked my games on paper.
I'm not surprised to my side won you games, like I said, it was the strongest card in spell hunter, but if you're not going to run 2 of them and a rhok'delar then your winrate will actually improve by just going the midrange match, since you won't NEED the DK to win control matchups, you'll just outpace them, and can still fall back on the DK if that plan fails. It will also make the deck stronger against combo.
Spell Hunter is stronger than secret hunter this expansion, in my opinion, but Secret hunter is better than THIS spell hunter deck, simply because you're lacking 2/3 reasons to not run minions in the first place, which is an unnecessary gimp if you're not going to at LEAST shell out for another To My Side.
For example, my Spell Hunter deck is currently at a 74% WR, so those additions really do make a difference.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm not saying this deck is the most optimal one out there because it is made specifically for those weird people that want to play spell hunter without the weapon.
I 100% agree with what you are saying actually and if you wanted to take out too my side completely you could go for a more beast oriented early game beast strat or more secret synergy with secretkeeper. I ran the beast version for a while with a like 60% winrate around rank 10 so it isn't outstanding. Also, the full version of this deck is great and I got to legend with it last season so if you have the dust to make the cards and like the deck go ahead and do that because I think it will help your climb a lot.
Personally I think the secretkeeper route is stronger, because the high roll potential is stronger, secretkeeper into snake trap into hyena is such a strong play against everything besides warlock.
