Hi guys! I'm a true hunter enthusiast and I like to experiment with more combo/control oriented hunter lists. Lately I tried the now more popular Deathrattle/Egg Hunter. I started playing from rank 5 and I hit legend for 2 days with about 80% winrate. At legend my winrate dropped a bit because of the better opponents, but I managed to hit rank 5.
I'm currently rank 10 and the deck now has 70% winrate.
The most popular lists run Prince Keleseth or Lesser Emerald Spellstone + secret package but those list are optimised against control decks. The core of the deck is powerful enough to crush control, so I tried to make it a bit better versus aggro and token based strategies. I wanted to play more reactive cards so I put 2 copies of Grievous Bite and a single copy of Mossy Horror. I tried to keep the number of the minions as low as possible to make the odds of finding a key card with Stitched Tracker better, that's why I run 2 copies of Flanking Strike instead of more tech cards.
The deck has a chance for winning against every archetype but its best matchup is control, and worse - combo. My worst opponent is warlock, because you don't know what archetype they are playing and that hurts your mulligan.
General Mulligan:
Always keep: Tracking, Loot Hoarder and Devilsaur Egg. If you have the egg keep Play Dead and Terrorscale Stalker.
VS Aggro:
Keep: Candleshot, Grievous Bite and Flanking Strike.
VS Control:
Keep: Hunter's Mark, Stitched Tracker and Deathstalker Rexxar.
If I get 30 upvotes I'll write a more detailed mulligan, card replacements and tech choices.
Thank you for all the support guys!!! I never imagined that this deck will get so many upvotes and end up at the main page!!! <3 <3 <3
Here's a great video made by a fellow HS enthusiast kiwiinbacon showcasing the defensive power of the deck and the offensive power of Mossy Horror. If you want to see more great HS content go and check his youtube account: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8ArNKE0vzsClKov3CKBG1A
Lets continue with the in-depth mulligan:
VS Druid:
Keep: Tracking, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg and Stitched Tracker. If you have already have the egg keep any activator. Every druid starts slow so you are trying to get your combo as fast as possible. You have the time to find the cards you need with Tracking and Stitched Tracker. If your opponent is playing Token Druid, try to find as many Mossy Horrors as you can, but never keep it in the mulligan.
VS Hunter:
Keep: Tracking, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg and Stitched Tracker. Have egg -> any activator. Hunters these days are combo oriented so you'll have the time to search for your combo as vs Druids. If you know that you'll be playing vs Odd Hunter, add Candleshot and Grievous Bite to your mulligan and try saving every point of health that you can, try finding Deathstalker Rexxar and Rotten Applebaum for heal.
VS Mage:
Keep: Tracking, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg, Stitched Tracker and Deathstalker Rexxar. Have egg -> any activator. I was facing mainly control mages and you totally crush them. I keep Deathstalker Rexxar because if you are facing control rexxar is probably the only card you need to beat it. Try to have and egg on the board at any time and here the egg is probably the best cube target. Try building an Explosive bloatbat with poisonus and keep a Play Dead to answer Dragoncaller Alanna. Versus Aggro Mage add Candleshot, Grievous Bite and Flanking Strike to your mulligan and you will need rexxar to build as many lifesteal minions.
VS Paladin:
Keep: Tracking, Candleshot, Grievous Bite, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg and Deathstalker Rexxar. Have egg -> any activator. The only paladin on the ladder right now is Odd Paladin, your job is to keep its Silver Hand Recruits low as possible and finish the game on turn 6 with Deathstalker Rexxar or Mossy Horror.
VS Priest:
Keep: Tracking, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg, Stitched Tracker and Deathstalker Rexxar. Have egg -> any activator. Vs Control Priest you have to look out for Psychic Scream. With Stitched Tracker try to find Kathrena Winterwisp to play her after he screams or Rotten Applebaum for extra healing after Shadowreaper Anduin.
VS Rogue:
Keep: Tracking, Candleshot, Grievous Bite, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg and Flanking Strike. Have egg -> any activator. If you have Candleshot or Grievous Bite keep Hunter's Mark. Odd Rogue is my worst mathchup. You are playing as if you are a control deck in this matchup. Try to keep his early pressure as low as possible and hope that he doesn't have a Void Ripper. Try to play around Vilespine Slayer because you can instantly loose by it.
VS Shaman:
Keep: Tracking, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg, Stitched Tracker and Flanking Strike. Have egg -> any activator. The meta is filled with Shudderwock Shamans. In the early game your main problem is manatide totem, try to have an answer for it. If you have devilaur egg + Play Dead try to play them at the same turn because the shamans run 2 copies of Earth Shock and an egg coined out on turn 2 is never safe. Later in the game try to make a big enough board to play around Volcano and if you can keep an egg on the board. Mossy Horror is really good play later because the shamans run a lot of 2 or less attack minions.
VS Warlock: (THIS IS THE HARDEST MULLIGAN)
Keep: Tracking, Candleshot, Grievous Bite, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg and Flanking Strike. Have egg -> any activator. If you have Candleshot or Grievous Bite keep Hunter's Mark. Warlock is the hardest opponent to mulligan for because of his variety of decks. I mulligan as if he is zoo if haven't faced the opponent before, because if you don't keep the reactive cards and he is zoo -> its gg! You are playing as if you are a control deck in this matchup too. Try to remove his board as much as possible and finish the game with you taunts. Vs Even Warlock always keep Hunter's Mark and try to do your combo fast. Once you give them the opportunity to dictate the trades on the board, hope they are low enough to finish them with King Krush because you rarely come back after that. Vs Cube Warlock try to kill his demons before he has the chance to duplicate them. Mossy Horror is very good for clearing void walkers.
VS Warrior:
Keep: Tracking, Loot Hoarder, Devilsaur Egg, Stitched Tracker and Deathstalker Rexxar. Have egg -> any activator. Quest Warrior is instant win. Just try to have an devilsaur egg on the board always. Cubing the egg here is even better than against mage, bacause Quest Warriors don't have silence or transform effects. The only thing you have to think about here is the positioning against Shadowmourne. Vs Odd Warrior just keep in mind that they have 2 Ironbeak Owls and use your resources wisefully because they have 4 board clears and weapons to kill your eggs before they clear the board.
Tech choices:
The tech cards that I use in this version are rotten applebaum and mossy horror so if you want to change something I suggest you to start with these 2.
VS Aggro:
The deck is already teched vs aggro but you can add weapon removal tech if you want to. This deck worst matchup is Odd Rogue so if you are facing too many of them I suggest you adding an Acidic Swamp Ooze in place of Mossy Horror because rouges don't have many 2 or less attack minions and this deck is already low on 2 drops. If you face a lot of aggro decks I can suggest you replacing King Krush for Giant Mastodon thus guaranteeing pulling a taunt from Kathrena Winterwisp.
VS Control:
Lately I switched the Rotten Applebaum for a Charged Devilsaur and got up to rank 4 legend. If you think that Mossy Horror is not good enough for the meta you are facing swap it for a Spellbreaker or Void Ripper to up your chances vs the control decks.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
In tempo matchups:
Don't try to save your terrorscale stalker for later in the game, play it immediately! Don't hesitate to cube the devilsaur egg becuase you want to get as big of board as possible. You will realise that cubing houndmaster shaw is insane!
In value matchups:
Vs decks with a lot of board clears try to have an Devilsaur Egg or Carnivorous Cube always on the board to play around them. Don't forget that Mossy Horror is also an egg activator if needed. When building a beast if your opponent is low on health always have in mind that you can get a Stonetusk Boar so pick a beast with attack high enough to kill your opponent. If you get 3 bad picks from Deathstalker Rexxar pick the lowest costing because of Hunting Mastiff and Vilebrood Skitterer.
Thank you for your support and have a good luck climbing the ladder!
Let me finish this post with some krushing action!!! :D :D :D
Yeah, but you're still left to rng. It's not like you can choose the exact cards.
Rank 1! Going for Legend!
@Mur0_BG Hey man congrats on the fun deck! Can you tell me if any of these cards will rotate out after the next expansion? Coming back to the game right now, i love hunter but I don't have much dust to spend, so i'm really concerned 'bout spending it just to lose next month.
Nice deck, hit rank 2 already
Thanks for the Videos!
One tipp at the end of the 2nd game: You should spread your other minions into your "egg army". So that when a meteor hits, it triggers at least one egg.
Replacement for Houndmaster Shaw? He doesn't seem essential to the deck, so not sure I want to use the dust to craft him.
Thanks! I put a Kill Command in last night and it worked pretty well. It was a small sample size of maybe 12-15 games, but I am over 70% win rate so far. I might try one of your suggestions later......now that I think about it I think there was a game against paladin that I would've won if had a Spellbreaker in there.
seems like kill command would be excellent in this deck
This is emberrassing but it is always hard to decide what to pick from Tracking.
any suggestion?
That moment when you got 4 King Krush on the board... pure love :D
O.P!
@Muro_BG you are a fking god man ez legend you pulled good stuff out of this alrdy boring meta ty :)
I like this deck. Can't expect it to win 100%. But I enjoy the fun combos and general style of play.
I like playing this deck but I feel like kathrena and the recruit mechanic is way too limited in this deck. Frequently you draw out the beasts and end up losing the reason you decided to put her in the deck. 8 mana 6/6 on her own is not worth the effort to possibly have a failed synergy.
It seems much easier to take her, king krush, and maybe a witchwood grizzly out and replace them with Leeroy, Savannah highmane or maybe another rotten applebaum.
+1
Nice to see someone posting stats from a 100+ games with the winrate in the title!
I'm missing the legendaries and won't craft them because of saving dust for the new expansion, but this is a pretty tough deck to face on ladder, gz!
Hey, I've been seeing some trouble against Rogue. Even if I keep the aggro down early on, every time I try to make a board it's dead the next turn or two and I can't come back. I can't think of any tech card that would swing the match up in our favor, have you tried anything to any success?
Btw I was playing a much worse version of this deck but now with Kathrena Winterwisp and King Krush I've started winning a lot more games. Also taking out secrets all together just felt right. So far most of my wins are vs. Even Lock. Thanks for sharing!
I think at this point I'm just accepting that we can't beat Rogue without a great draw. I'll keep Mossy.
Never really played hunter, but this list looks good, will def try it!
Do you ever hate when you are fn' around with a totally different random deck idea that drops your rank low enough that you start hitting other random decks in ranked play. Then when you switch back to an optimized deck for ladder you lose to stupid decks that you don't expect.
Yeah so far im 0-3 with this deck that I'm sure works well, to total scrub decks that are somehow pulling out victories with like double dire frenzy to a lion...
Great deck, offers a lot of possibilities and solutions to counter most of the decks out there...a spell breaker is necessary though..and I like the idea of a Charged devilsaur in this deck.
