Mulligan:
Always keep: Radiant Elemental + Power Word: Shield, Bloodmage Thalnos, Loot Hoarder
vs aggro: Spirit Lash, Shadow Word: Pain
vs control: Twiligh's Call (when you have 2 deathrattle minions), Prophet Velen
Card Replacements:
Vivid Nightmare -> Malygos (for more dmg)
Mass Dispel -> Shadow Essence (get you minions easier)
Side Notes:
Against Control Decks with polymorph effect you can kill your own Prophet Velen with Shadow Word: Death to still ressurect it with spellstone
Against aggro decks use Bloodmage Thalnos with Spirit Lash or try to set up same thing with Prophet Velen
Combo:
!sequencing is important!
Radiant Elemental + Lesser Diamond Spellstone + Vivid Nightmare on Radiant Elemental + Vivid Nightmare on Prophet Velen + Mind Blast (24 dmg from one copy) x2 + Holy Smite (12 dmg from one copy) x2
*you can do the same thing without Radiant Elemental as a first played card or you can just deal less dmg against decks that don't stack up armor
**remember to BM your opponent
Cards Explanation:
Holy Smite - additional burst dmg or can be used on minions as a single target removal
Power Word: Shield - cycle and buff your minion. best target for it is radiant elemental
Mind Blast - main source of burst dmg with prophet velen
Radiant Elemental - this will make your spells cheaper to then OTK your opponent or just make playing spells easier
Shadow Visions - discover key cards. It's important to have spellstone early to buff it to 3rd form. or you can just try to get more burst or board clears
Shadow Word: Pain - great against early minions or just sth with huge amount of health and low attack points
Spirit Lash - main healing source in this deck. it can be also used with bloodmage thalnos or prophet velen to heal for more and also deal more dmg
Shadow Word: Death - cheap way to kill any big minion like for example Lich king
Twilight's Call - Ress Bloodmage Thalnos and Loot Hoarder to get more cards
Vivid Nightmare - copy one of your cards. Combo piece that will allow you to make your spells cheaper and they will deal more dmg
Mass Dispel - get rid of few buffs with one card and on top of it's a card draw. counter to Edwin, Fungalmancer etc.
Lesser Diamond Spellstone - ress your minions and then kill your opponent with burst
Prophet Velen - main source of dmg. double or fourfold the fun and dmg
Psychic Scream - interesting board clear that will make your opponent deck worse because they will have to draw those cards once again
Bloodmage Thalnos - spell dmg and card draw. great card with a lot of synergies
Loot Hoarder - card draw with deathrattle so it can be resurrected
Proof:
this deck is god awful. there are not near enough cards to survive until you get the combo. you need perfect conditions. No taunts or heals so... you survive this aggro and big minion meta with what.... nothing but spirit lash and the hope you draw your single bloodmage thalnos early enough to use it? good luck. mostly you end up with either no minions or loot hoarder... a single spirit lash... and lesser diamonds and mind blasts you cant use... and twighlights calls you cant use... no thanks. nice try though. glad it worked for some of you a few games
this is shit but fun one time every 10 so why not
Yeah, the deck's cool, but only when you don't die on turn 4 to aggro or when Velen or Radiant Elemental don't get resurrected because of sheeps and frogs.
It beats Shudderwok most of the time, that being the reason why I play it.
I was also thinking of cutting a Smite in favour of Shadowreaper Anduin. Most of the time I end up using Holy Smite for removal, and it really isn't something you want to see come up in Shadow Visions.
Really cool deck! Needs a bit of effort to not screw up the order and such, but other than than the OTK is truly satisfying
Horrible, horrible deck. Struggles against pretty much every meta deck except MAYBE shudderwock. You get destroyed by Zoolock, Handlock, Druids, and pretty much any deck that doesnt just AFK for the first 10 turns.
Dropped from Rank 2 to Rank 5 using this deck, went 1-13. Waste of dust, don't bother making this deck.
Edit: Still going at Rank 5 with 0 stars, 2-25! Great deckbuilding on this site btw!
You just suck
Congrats if you can consistently hold off the opponent till you get the right combo. In my experience, you'll spend half the game cursing out your bad luck, because you keep drawing crap like lesser diamond spellstone or vivid nightmare when you have yet to see a minion in your hand. I can never manage to draw spirit lash with Thalnos or Velen, so the effect is underwhelming most of the time. For some turns, all you can do is use your hero power. It's not a competitive deck unless you're playing someone with a slow control deck.
I count 11 mana there. Also a weird sequence. I guess the wording got edited a few times and mashed up. o.o
Let me see if I got this correctly:
Setting up the win condition
---- required ----
Get your Prophet Velen killed (*)
Get one Lesser Diamond Spellstone charged up (if a Radiant Elemental died you need it at full power) (**)
10 mana and all combo pieces
---- optional ----
Get one of your Radiant Elemental killed (requires Lesser Diamond Spellstone maxed out)
Get Bloodmage Thalnos killed (**) for extra damage
(*) Beware of morphing/stealing. Against Priest/Mage/Shaman you might want to play it on turn 10 to cast Shadow Word: Death on him right away.
(**) Beware of unknown minions infiltrating your lines. Cards like Cornered Sentry might ruin your Lesser Diamond Spellstone by taking up Prophet Velens spot. If it comes to that and you didn't play, let's say Bloodmage Thalnos, better to keep him in the hand or tuck him away in the enemy deck using Psychic Scream. You are going to need room in your hand anyway.
The standard combo pieces you need on turn 10:
---- required ----
1x Radiant Elemental
1x Lesser Diamond Spellstone (maxed)
2x Vivid Nightmare
1x Mind Blast
---- optional ----
+1x Mind Blast
+2x Holy Smite
The standard(*) sequence:
1. Radiant Elemental (8 mana left)
2. Lesser Diamond Spellstone (2 mana left)
---> resurrects Prophet Velen, Radiant Elemental, Loot Hoarder and Bloodmage Thalnos (or a raptor or something in case your deck was infiltrated and you remembered not to play him)
3. Vivid Nightmare on Prophet Velen (1 mana left)
4. Vivid Nightmare on Prophet Velen (0 mana left)
5. fire at will! Your Mind Blast costs no mana!
This will OTK most enemies. Ideally dealing 48 damage each Mind Blast, and 24 damage each Holy Smite. Generally speaking this is what you are going for. It would be possible to pull the combo off with just one radiant, either in the combo hand or having it die preemptively. The full set if 8 cards (required + optional) deals a total of 144 damage.
With 2 more mind blast through Shadow Visions it adds up to 240 damage.
* In case of not having that second Radiant Elemental in your hand
1. Lesser Diamond Spellstone (3 mana left)
---> resurrects Prophet Velen, Radiant Elemental, Loot Hoarder and Bloodmage Thalnos
3. Vivid Nightmare on Prophet Velen (1 mana left)
4. Mind Blast (0 mana left)
---> deals 24 damage.
5. Holy Smite costs no mana. Each dealing 12 damage. With this you got lethal again.
Random note
In the total bonkers scenario of having The Coin and using Shadow Visions for one extra Vivid Nightmare and one extra Mind Blast, and assuming you have all in hand in the precise order needed, you could achieve a theoretical total of 288 damage through Mind Blast and extra 48 damage through one Holy Smite (you need to use the other on your own Loot Hoarder to make room on the board) adding up to a theoretical total of 336 maximum damage.
Thanks, this really helped!
This deck is terrible in the current meta imo, hex on velen means you instantly lose in a very shaman filled meta. Don't draw exact answer of spirit lash thalnos you instantly lose to aggro, draw badly with spells you lose. Don't bother with this deck, too much dust to climb.
In that matchup you're supposed to sw death your own velen.
And tell me in how many matchups can you get away with spending 10 mana doing nothing?
When you're playing against a slow ass deck like shudderwock or Big spell mage. You kill your Velen, execute combo on following turn and the game ends, that's the entire idea.
it usually is the last step required/taken.
Would you play a 10 mana spell card with the effect "next time its your turn, you win the game"? :3
Thanks for the guide. Just a footnote from your combo sequencing section: IF you play radiant elemental before the spellstone, you already have 2 with the one resurrected, so you use both vivid nigthmares on Velen then do 48 dmg mind blast and 24 dmg holy smite with Thalnos. Cheers!
Saw this from a Toast's video.
Very fun deck but hard if you get bad draw!
Yea i know, sorry for acting like a dick.
One thing to add: if opponent doesnt kill off poly critters/raptors there is a last out in screaming them into his deck.
Won my second game by Deathing my own Velen 10/10 would Velen again
This is just the vivid Velen deck from 2 months ago right? I can't see any difference
